Two Complete Summer Push Events Two members of the Theta Theta chapter arrived in front of the United States Capitol in Washington D.C. on the morning of August 15, 2009 to a crowd of supporters who made the journey to the Nation’s Capitol to celebrate their life changing summers. Undergraduates Ryan Novak (Journey of Hope), and Josh Mosqueda (Build America) completed the final leg of their trips welcomed by family, and fellow alumni. Greg Buehner (#6), Cody Gremore (#19), Jared Hansen (#26), and David Hartwig (#35) gave both men a warm welcome on the west lawn of the Capitol grounds that August morning. For Brother Novak, his journey took him over 3,000 miles from San Francisco. Along the way, Brother Novak raised over

$5,000 for people with disabilities, and participated in countless number of friendship visits along

Homecoming Update As we watch the gathering storm on the horizon known as College Football moving closer to us, it is only natural for all of us to be anxious for the season to start. In four short days, the Iowa Hawkeyes will take the field at Historic Kinnick Stadium for the 79th season. Also, as we’ve been highlighting for the past four months, it is that time of the year to reunite as alumni for the Homecoming celebration. For those who will be able to make it into Iowa City by 8:30 PM on October 9, the chapter will be hosting a dinner with alumni at the house. This provides an excellent opportunity for us to connect with current undergraduates, and get caught up on what is happening in the chapter currently. Following dinner, alumni are invited to a cocktail hour at Martini’s. Arrival

at Martini’s is set for 10:30 PM for a brief opportunity to celebrate as just alumni. Everyone is reminded to get ample amount of sleep in preparation for the Homecoming Football game. Brother Blazek will host his usual tailgate in the southeast lot of the Dental Parking Lot starting at 6 AM for those who wish to arrive early. There will be plenty of food ranging from breakfast items to common tailgate staples. Please bring $5 to compensate Brady for the food costs, and bring whatever beverages you wish. The football game starts at 7 PM against the Michigan Wolverines. Sunday morning has brunch planned at Iowa River Power Company at 11 AM, and there will be a BOAA meeting at 5 PM. Members are encouraged to attend chapter meeting at 7 PM if they wish.

his journey. For Brother Mosqueda, his journey began in

Clevleand, and took him to six different camps that support people with disabilities. Brother Mosqueda raised over $3,500 for people with disabilities, and built several accessible structures at the camps he visited. Both men currently hold Executive Council positions, and bring their excitement, and experiences back to the current members of the Theta Theta Chapter. Along with the Theta Theta alumni, several members from past Journey of Hope and Build America teams also welcomed these men into the Nation’s Capitol. Brother Buehner joined the cyclists in a Pi Alpha ride along that took former Journey of Hope riders from Richmond, VA into Washington D.C. Congratulations to all these men.

Where’s the Game on At? With so many alumni now living in common areas, it is important to highlight places to watch Iowa Football games if you are not living in Iowa City. Chicago, IL: Merkle’s Bar and Grill at 3516 N Clark St hosts the Chicago I-Club, and all Hawkeye’s fans. They feature a special for all you can eat/drink for $25 that lasts throughout the game. Merkle’s is very convenient to get to, as it is just off the Red Line’s Addison stop near Wrigley Field. Brother’s Dornbier and Hartwig will be present for all games that they are not in Iowa City for. Denver, CO: The Sports Column at 1930 Blake St. is the home of the Denver I-Club for all Hawkeye games. Ironically, this bar is modeled after the Iowa City location, with a second floor, and no drunk freshmen in it. Those alumni living in

the Denver area are encouraged to watch the Iowa games here, as it has great specials and prize opportunities sponsored by the Denver I-Club. Washington D.C.: The Capital Area I-Club sponsors all Iowa Football games at the Crystal City Sports Pub at 529 23rd Street in Arlington, VA. Brothers Gremore and Goodrich will likely be in attendance for the spectacular Iowa Football season to watch the Hawkeyes in their march to January. Charlotte, NC: Brother Buehner heads the Charlotte IClub, and has a new location to watch Iowa Football games at Ed’s Tavern, 2200 Park Road. While Brother Buehner is the only alumnus living in the Charlotte area, it is a hot spot for visits by our alumni, and everyone is encouraged to support Brother Buehner’s effort.
