Arizona State University added a new fraternity to its campus when Pi Kappa Phi’s Theta Xi chapter chartered in April. Greg Lindsay, current Archon of the Theta Xi chapter, said the ceremony was a perfect way to finish a year of trials and tribulations while trying to establish to new house on campus. “It was an amazing night,” Lindsay said. “We all appreciate the alumni that came by and showed their support for us. Ecstatic does not begin to cover how we all feel, probably more like. . . euphoric.” Mr. Tracy Maddox, National Secretary of Pi Kappa Phi, and Mr. Chuck Barnard were the chartering officers. Also in attendance were CEO of Pi Kappa Phi Mr. Mark Timmes, Director of Expansion Mr. Woody Woodcock and Director of Business Affairs Mr. Joe Costello. Lindsay said he is proud to have this associate chapter receive its charter, especially since this was not ASU’s first Pi Kappa Phi associate chapter. Previously Pi Kappa Phi tried to establish a house in Tempe. Many of the members still remember their first Pi
The Theta Xi chapter started their fundraising for Push America with high expectations, holding the First Annual 48-hour Celebrity Bike-A-Thon on ASU’s Hayden Lawn and raising nearly $5,000. The bike-a-thon consisted of four stationary bikes that were ridden non-stop throughout the 48 hours. Brothers of Theta Xi chapter as well as sororities and other fraternities around ASU collaborated and shared time on the bikes to help raise money for Push America. The brothers constructed a large star shield-shaped boxed to hold the donations contributed by students, organizations, staff and any other Greek life members. Theta Xi Chapter Archon Greg Lindsay, who helped lead and create the bike-a-thon, said that it was better than he could have ever planned it. “We set the bar high for following bike-a-thons,” Lindsay said. “We did learn a lot of things and that there are a lot of things we can do to get the name out there.”

Lindsay said he is working on ways to improve the event. “We are looking at corporate sponsorships and media attention such as Clearchannel Radio,” Lindsay said. “We are looking forward to working with Cocacola, who will supply water, soda and energy drinks for the riders.” “We are looking to involve more to the local businesses and alumni for help and the get the entire community involved,” Lindsay said. “Our goal for next year is $10,000, or double of what we earned this year.”
