Pi Kappa Phi - Theta Xi Newsletter Letter from the Archon I cannot even begin to describe how proud I am of the Theta Xi chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. Throughout this year my chapter has accomplished things I never imagined would happen during my time. We were recipients of the NIC award of distinction, we received the Kroeg Award for chapter excellence, we were the IFC chapter of the year, we broke records for Push America fundraising, we introduced the concept of volunteer socials, we had an outstanding social calendar, we completely revamped the new member education program, we created regular member development meetings, we initiated 31 strong members, and above all, I had the opportunity to watch our brotherhood grow and flourish into the strongest and closest fraternity of men there is. Being Archon of this fraternity is nothing I ever even dreamed of. Theta Xi was and continues to be the epitome of a successful fraternity. Only initiating in the spring of 2012 and knowing I would graduate in the fall of 2013, I did not believe

Alumni Updates This semester we have heard lots of exciting news coming from our alumni! We have had two alumni who have recently become engaged to their long-time girlfriends. We would like to congradulate Brother Bill Harden and Brother Matt Glynn

Semester in Review This semester has been a busy one for the Theta Xi chapter of Pi Kappa Phi. We began the year by winning the Kroeg Award (best Pi Kappa Phi chapter with at least 18 IFC chapters on campus). Also this semester our chapter held three

that the aspiration of being Archon would even be possible. I am truly unable to describe how grateful I am to have had this experience and how honored I am that this fraternity trusted me in this role. I am leaving with skills I could not have learned in any other setting and I am leaving with an appreciation for the power of fraternity that will stay with me for a lifetime. I was beyond privileged to work with an executive council of outstanding brothers, and I was beyond privileged to serve a chapter of outstanding gentlemen. I am greatly indebted to this fraternity, and I

hope that I can continue to serve this chapter as an alumni. During the year of 2013 I saw members of this fraternity called to better their brotherhood. I saw members become empowered to take ownership of their fraternity. Every single one of the active and associate members became a leader in some way and inspired each other to do better and achieve more. It is this culture that breeds powerful men. It is this culture that creates successful and long lasting chapters. As I leave the active brotherhood I know that my brothers and future members will maintain an attitude of excellence and will strive to better their friendships through chapter success. I look up to the men I associate myself with and I idolize the new members that are truly better men than I ever was. I can only hope that my time in the chapter has helped to create a platform in which future members can succeed in ways my chapter never could. Your Archon, Anthony Enrico

on their engagements this semester! Also recent alumni Brother Wayne Unger moved to San Jose, California to work for Cisco Systems and took the position of Chief of Staff for Cisco’s Director of Supply Chain Risk, Sustainability, and Compliance. Brother Unger also has become the Chapter Advisor to the recently

date parties, a social and volunteer social with Alpha Chi Omega, a volunteer social with Gamma Phi Beta, family weekend with Sigma Kappa, homecoming with Alpha Phi, and White Diamond formal. Our chapter also participated in Pi Beta Phi’s Arrowspike and Delta Gamma’s Anchorsplash.

This January Arizona State University had over 1000 men who registered for IFC recruitment and our chapter had record numbers of men attending our events. In the beginning of November we were fortunate to initate 19 men who are truly better than ourselves and will continue the legacy of the Theta Xi chapter.

Pi Kappa Phi Changed My Life My name is Jordan Baxter, I’m from Goodyear, Arizona where people just go to school, work, or both. Pretty much an average city and most kids are bored all the time because there is nothing to do. The simple word “Fraternity” would confuse my city. In 2012 when I attended ASU as a freshman I found myself rushing a leadership fraternity called Pi Kappa Phi that changed my life completely. The moment I spoke to these gentlemen at rush I felt a warming presence that actually wanted to challenge me mentally. The brotherhood I found within

this chapter was astonishing. From the moments of subordinate rituals and watching new members get challenged on what they are going to do for themselves to make them better men, all the way to rose ball where all the brothers are in one location having a blast with each other. Throughout my process I found myself coming from a neighborhood where all I did was get in trouble for some entertainment to a circle full of brothers that showed me they actually cared. Ever since I rushed I found myself caring for others more consistently, I found myself setting goals and dreams in front of me that I never thought I could reach, and most of all I found myself bonding with guys that were

completely opposite of me and calling them my brothers. The one night I will always remember in college and that will define me as a man from here on out was burning of the letters. This night changed my life completely and showed me what my brothers have gone through. From that moment on I knew that I needed to be helping people constantly and I needed to stop thinking about myself all the time. Pi Kappa Phi not only made me a man but also made me a brother. It taught me how to care for other individuals and how to stand up for them and for myself using only my voice. God bless Pi Kappa Phi, Jordan Baxter

The Journey of Hope Experience My name is Trevor Young and during the summer of 2013 I had the honor of participating as a cyclist in the Journey of Hope – South Route. I signed up for the Journey of Hope a year before I departed the Queen Mary in Long Beach. After a years worth of fundraising, I was ready for the summer of a lifetime! The minimum fundraising amount for JOH as a cyclist is $5,500. I would not have been able to reach my goal if I did not have the support of my brothers and ThetaXi alumni. Every day’s ride was tough but the encouragement I received from my team members was what I needed to make it to the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. Looking back now, JOH was the best thing I ever chose to do second to joining the Theta-Xi chapter at ASU. I could tell someone about every day’s ride, all of the people I met and all of the places I visited and I could still not come close to explaining how life changing this experience

was. During the summer, I learned the true meaning of our fraternity and Push America. Seeing the abilities in everyone I met this summer has challenged me to do greater things and work harder now that I am back home. I encourage all brothers if they

have the opportunity to sign up for a summer event. It will be an experience I remember for the rest of my life! Trevor Young
