Believing in the iron ore story It is no coincidence that the Pilbara is one of the few real estate markets in Australia that is performing well above the national average.
This adds still further to the consumption of steel, thus ensuring the Pilbara has a bright future as the area which continues to supply iron ore into an ever expanding market.

Business After Hours: PRE Pilbara Real Estate and the Karratha and Districts Chamber of Commerce and Industry held their first Business After Hours for 2012 on Wednesday, February 8.
More than 100 people from local businesses and organisations turned up for the event to help celebrate the launch of Pilbara Real Estate’s new premises. Mention the North Pole and it might conjure up images of a man in a red suit or polar bears but Landgate’s Geographic Names Committee, which has just turned 75, says the North Pole is also a mining centre in the Pilbara.

The purpose of the GNC has remained the same over the years, with its primary role to ensure naming decisions for the state government are carried out in a democratic way. The committee continues to provide geographic naming advice to the Minister for Lands Brendon Grylls. Mrs Stefani said the system used by the GNC allowed for the orderly process of designating names for roads, landscape and seascape entities ensuring they remain an integral part of Western Australian culture. Prior to names being approved, other important factors such as emergency services, communications and transport are taken into account. “Appointments to the GNC are still made by the Minister for Lands and they are considered to represent a broad cross-section of the community,” Mrs Stefani said.
Ironically it was named after the extremely hot weather in the region. Landgate’s Geographic Names Manager Danielle Stefani said the GNC was established following a request from the Western Australian Historical Society. “They believed the state’s roads and towns should be named in a way that was relevant and meaningful to their origin,” Mrs Stefani said. The society felt a committee should be established to specifically undertake this important role. It was agreed that names of towns and roads should reflect the history or indigenous features of a particular area. On July 27 1936, the first meeting of the Advisory Committee on Nomenclature was held. In 1987, it became known as the Geographic Names Committee. Mrs Stefani said the GNC had

There are also representatives from the Western Australian Local Government Association. The GNC is about to apply for ministerial approval to pave the way for two nongovernment representatives to join the committee. “The Geographic Names Committee processes over 1500 naming applications each year,” Mrs Stefani said. “It is very much a collaborative approach where we work closely with local governments, land developers and also the general public. There was no end-of-year cheer for new home sales WA and SA were the only states to achieve positive results in new house sales for the 2011 December quarter; the Housing Industry Association said WA sales increased by 6.8 per cent and SA topped the chart with 12 per cent. The HIA – JELD-WEN New Home Sales Report, based on a survey of Australia’s 100 largest builders, showed a decline of 4.9 per cent in total seasonally adjusted new home sales in December 2011 nationally. The HIA’s chief economist, Dr Harley Dale said weakness in the new home building sector reflects a combination of subdued demand and an excessive cost base driven by high and inefficient taxation. Dr Dale said high and inefficient tax rates were further highlighted in 2011 by the modest decline in existing property values. “Short term monetary and fiscal policy stimulus together with a revitalised program of longer term structural reform is required in early 2012,” he said.
