urban concept
transportation - car route is diverted to the right street, leaving Keplerova street accesible by tram in order to organize the traffic flow and allow the space to be more suitable by foot.
pedestrian route - the sidewalk is removed and the site is used as a public space and a connection towards the park.
allows better traffic flow and more crossable path

architecture concept
After deriving axes from the lines, two volumes were created and is pushed up and down.
One’s private, other’s public. One’s for dwelling, other’s for commuting. The form of the one volume lead the public towards the park, connecting to the fortification wall.
Not only does one dwell on the site, but also provides efficient movement around the area, as well as reflecting on the history of Prague.

Divergence Pohorelec, Prague 6 main function: Affordable housing Additional function: Fitness centre, cafes Divergence is a site-specific project. The project involves changing the traffic flow not only for the vehicles and public transportation but also for the pedestrian. The urban context around the site is surrounded by important historical pieces, from the Strahov Monastery to the fortification. The site lies in a significantly valuable piece of land in Prague. The project improves traffic flow and creates a more walkable connection from the monastery, through the site, to the fortification wall. The path connecting the two provides a car-free, environmental friendly route towards the wall that the visitors can rest, run, ride a bike and exercise. The residential volume height is aligned with the height of the tallest building of the school. The volume is then sloped down, reflecting with the wall separating the school and the site. The sloping movement of the roof is mirrored with the existing terrain, sloping down from the opposite end. Divergence affects the perspective of the user visiting the space. From the separation wall between the site and the school to the slipped in entrance from the western facade, sharp cuts are made in different parts of the sites to create a slight shift in angles of each element which gives a different perspective wherever you stand. The residential volume sits on the corner of the eastern side, with its west elevation facing the proposed public space. All the res58
idence units face towards the west side, experiencing evening sun into their unit spaces, providing a soft atmosphere in the living units. The corridor type circulation connects all the flats on each floor. The corridor is designed to align with Keplerova street, behave like a wall in between the peaceful space of the living and the noisy street. The material used for the circulation acts like the user is inside out. The resting space is a solid block whereas the circulation is void among huge blocks of resting space. The effect is reflected in the material used. A heavy load bearing wall is used for living space in contrast with a thin mesh facade that gives the user a peak of the outside. The units will have a wooden floor and white colour finishes. They face the view of the public space purposed. Each unit has different measurements according to the western facade angle. The unit ranges from a studio for a single person to a four bedrooms space for a big family. The concept of affordable housing here is that every unit has 3 main spaces (The bedroom, the living, and the kitchen) which separate private with public areas within the unit. Studio units save space by dividing each part using pieces of furniture.

Number of apartment units: 39 Studio type: 9 One bedroom type: 4 Two bedrooms type: 18 Three bedrooms type: 7 Four bedrooms type: 1 The ground floor will use concrete finishes to save energy used for additional finishes. Underground levels are used for fitness centres with its main entrance from the lower ground level. It has a private entrance for the residents. The -1 and -2 floors are dedicated for utilities and parking spaces. In terms of daylight, a glass window is fitted at a higher height of the wall to let in lights from the outside to the gym area. Not only does the project benefit the residents on the site, but also serve for the visitors in the area. The project allows more social interaction for all ages, promotes activities such as outdoor cinema, flea market or hosting an outdoor event in the summer to improve the quality of life for the locals. The bridge connecting the site to the fortification wall allows the visitors to view Prague at a higher angle. Divergence is an effective way to promote the potentially ‘futuristic’ way of living in Prague, improve the traffic and circulation for the people, and provide bike paths and pedestrian path leading to a beautiful view in the historical city.
