hat can we say about our retreats? They are fulfilling at both a creative and a personal level. The groups are small so an esprit de corps can form and friendships develop. Together with our customers, we have donated thousands of quilts to abused children who visit CARES Northwest. Come help us make more quilts for the program. Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses English Paper Piecing by Hand How exciting to see English paper piecing (EPP) enjoying a tremendous resurgence these days with fresh ideas and awesome fabrics! For our class, Pam has chosen a classic EPP pattern, Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses, a great block if you are new to EPP. Begin with a pillow or table runner if you want a smaller scale project that you can complete in a shorter period of time. The block is made with 48 honeycombs (an elongated hexagon shape) … perfect for fussy cutting fabric motifs from large scale prints to create beautiful kaleidoscopic effects, as shown in Pam’s sample, above. Hand sewing simple shapes is relaxing, gratifying and portable, and the resulting blocks are stunning. Or, you can use Rosemary’s templates of a dog or cat. Each template includes a photo, an outline template, pre-drawn nose and eye templates, and fabrics to make the eyes and nose.
