Ping G30 £175

GOLD

Lofts: 17º, 19º, 22º, 26º, 30º Tech: Steel is heat-treated to form a strong, thin face that permits a strong, high flight with steeper descent. Weight pads optimise forgiveness and create progressive CG. A square face helps aim; high balance-point shaft aids forgiveness. James Ridyard The traditional head shape hasn’t changed much, but why change a winning formula? This club feels exceptionally well-balanced, solid without feeling heavy to swing. Off-centre strikes didn’t really lose anything. Ping rarely let you down, and with their fitting capabilities this is impressive.

Duncan Lennard The head shape is the perfect size for me, compact enough to cut through rough and big enough to give confidence. It will satisfy purists, which hasn’t always been the case with Ping. It created an ideal mid-high launch, and was very forgiving. Matt Leader A lovely head inspires confidence. Impact felt great and the head offered excellent forgiveness, proved by one I hit very skinny but still managed to climb. David Simmons The head shape seemed long from heel

to toe, but is unfussy; I felt I could see a lot of the face. The performance was fantastic; the face felt hot and the ball launched really easily, creating an effortlessly long high flight. Sets the standards for stability and performance. Didn’t sound as hot as some.

THE VERDICT Looks: 9.5 Feel/sound: 9 Distance consistency: 9 Versatility: 9.5 Forgiveness: 9.5
