Ping i25 range
D
edicated followers of Ping products would have expected the launch of a new i25 range, almost exactly two years after the i20. In a world of sporadic, unexpected launches, the brand should be applauded for consistency and the patience not to rush product to market. While it’s fair to say that we don’t expect a complete overhaul when it comes to a Ping launch, what we do see is enough changes to produce improved performance through the entire range. This is certainly the case after early testing of the i25 line. Lower-spinning woods are often ideal for getting the most out of faster-thanaverage swings, but this benefit comes at the expense of forgiveness. Ironically, it’s often faster swingers who require the most forgiveness, and this has been addressed in the new i25 offering, thanks to enhanced weight placement and new head designs. These heads have been combined with an ingenious shaft offering that promises to offer even more control. Whichever stock shaft you combine the heads with, the swing weight will be maintained to offer consistency and allow you to try a range of options. As with other recent Ping offerings, the 0.5-degree increase or decrease in loft doesn’t seem like much, but does have a noticeable effect on flight. What Ping designers have also managed to do brilliantly in the i25 woods is produce a look at address that aids alignment, without taking away from the stunning matte-black finish. While the G25 will remain the mass-market product, the i25 line-up promises to appeal to a wider range of players than ever before. It will provide versatility and control without having to sacrifice the forgiveness that all golfers will find beneficial.
