Q: “How do you pick a burlesque name?”

A: Picking a burlesque name is a very important decision. There are many things to consider, especially how you want your name to represent who you are and what type of performer you are. Some burlesque names highlight something about the performer, such as their ethnicity (Shanghai Pearl or Tomahawk Tassels), a specific body part (Jo Boobs Weldon or Legs Malone), or type of specialty act (Lula Houp Garou). Others choose alliteration (Midnite Martini), puns (Anita Cookie, Iva Handfull), campy (Dirty Martini) or evoke double-entendre. My name came from a mix of reasons. Queenie is because of my Grandma, the original Queenie. My Grandpa used to sing “Strip Polka” to her and tell us she moonlighted as Queenie, the queen of burlesque. I chose von Curves to highlight my “ass”ets and my German heritage. Most importantly, remember this name is going to represent you professionally within the burlesque world: so make it creative and fun for audiences to hear announced before you wow them! Q: “Do you have makeup tips for a pin-up shoot?”

A: Unless you are doing a very specific character or a concept shoot, a good clean face is what to go for. Make sure you have a good layer of foundation and concealer, but don’t cake it on so you get wrinkle/laugh lines. Use powder to set your face and to keep shine away. Do use blush to highlight your cheekbones, but don’t go crazy and look like a clown! Make sure to use eyeliner to open up your eyes by putting on your top lid and extending it just past your eyelid. If you want, you can also use underneath your eye as well, but don’t go all the way into the corner of your eye near your cornea, this will make your eyes smaller. Make sure to define your eyebrows and use false eyelashes (size is dependent on your eyes). A classic red lipstick is best. For someone new to makeup, the book “Face Forward” by Kevyn Aucoin is a great resource. A key element to pin-up modeling is facial expressions, so a good clean canvas is the way to go!

Queenie’s Tip of the Month: Trying to figure out a way to keep that glitter on without obnoxious glue or gel? Try some basic Chapstick! Just put Chapstick where you want glitter on your face and then use loose glitter on top. It will stay in place until you take it off with a makeup wipe! Sparkle on Ladies!A classic red lipstick is best. For someone new to makeup, the book “Face Forward” by Kevyn Aucoin is a great resource. Tania Fonseca Her HIstory: Tania Fonseca is an American Pin-up Model of Mexican descent. Born on October 1st, 1993 in Escondido, California. She started modeling at the age of fourteen for Quinceañera Magazine, and once she turned seventeen she went back to the look she loved as a child, which was the classic pin-up look. Her mother is an antique lover whom introduced her to “Grease” the musical at the age of seven. Once she saw the “Pink Ladies” and “Sandy” strutting their stuff, she knew she wanted to be just like them! Tania Fonseca is a proud wife, mother, and activist. Everything she does and achieves is all thanks to God and her family. “They are my support system & the ones I can count on” She wants to make a positive change in the world, and would like to be a role model to all women who have felt like they are not good enough. Tania Fonseca believes a pin-up is about being confident and proud of being who you are. Pin-ups come in all shapes, tones, and sizes and that is the beauty of it all.

Her Advice For Women of Pink Bow City: “Times may get rough, but if you are determined enough to overcome all obstacles, you will reach your dreams!” 10
