bombshell pin up photography One of the things that caught our eye about Bombshell Pin Up Photography is their dressing room (Pictured on the left). When you book a shoot with Bombshell Pinup Photography, you will get ready in style! The dressing room is inside of a 1961 Shasta and it is pulled by a 1960 Dedan Deville Caddy. "We use the car to pull the Shasta and to shoot with. It’s basically a very large prop! Haha." The pink button tufted interior is matching for both the Shasta and Caddy. The girls get ready for their photo shoot in the Bomb-Shasta. It holds a majority of our wardrobe, shoes, stockings, scarves, etc. We have a dressing table and lighting in the Shasta so it’s perfect for styling and then for the client to change into her pinup clothes. We acquired a white vintage barber chair while antique shopping, and found it fits in perfectly! It’s always fun for the model to bring a friend and hang out in the Shasta. I love it too! John installed a chandelier for me to add a touch of glam! I never get tired of hanging out in our mobile dressing room! John and I did all the remodeling of the Shasta ourselves except for the upholstery and the application of the vinyl graphics on the outside. However, John did help pull buttons and he built the bench! John is very creative in so many ways. The Bomb-Shasta and Caddy have so much love built in and they are an expression of who we are.... The perfect mascot for Bombshell!

Your photography is very unique with a classic pin-up art style! Which pin-up artists inspire your photography? Vargas, Gil Elvgren & George Petty. Olivia & Greg Hildebrandt as modern day artists. Vargas is my main inspiration because of the posing and body lines. How long have you been doing photography & how did you get started with the pin-up genre? Photography for 36 years, owning studios for 28 of those years. Carol Ann, my wife, drug me kicking and screaming into the pinup world and I’m so happy she did! I’ve always admired pinups, so it’s a dream that I’m now creating them to resemble the pinups of the greats!

You also have a very unique vintage trailer that you haul around, correct? Can you tell me a little bit more about how you came up with that idea & what you use it for? How cool! I have a love for all things vintage and mid-century. I had acquired several vintage trailers, in various states of remodel. The Shasta was sitting outside our studio for 2 years when Carol Ann decided to claim it and make it her own! To my dismay, she decided to turn it into a rolling dressing room for Bombshell. As she was ripping out the kitchen (yes, I do mean ripping… crow bar in hand), I was shedding internal tears.

Do you have any modern day pin-up idols that you aspire to collaborate with? Dita, Bernie Dexter, Masuimi Max, and Katy Perry. The images that you capture have great poses! Do you have any advice for aspiring pin-up models on how to get that classic pose just right? Find other pinup models that you admire. Study their posing, body lines… every inch. Notice the hands. Notice the angles of the body. Try to find commonalities from one pose to another. Look at yourself in the mirror as you practice posing. Connect with several photographers that you admire who are willing to work with you on posing and do some sessions. Ask to see the raw images so that you can determine what you do and don’t like about your posing. Create a “look” for yourself. I went to the ballet and photographed ballet dancers to study posing. I did this for 5 straight days. Do you have any pet peeves when it comes to pin-up photography? The same pet peeve I have with all photography today. There is a serious lack of posing and lighting knowledge. To me, pinup is art and it should be portrayed as such. Therefore, I continually hone my craft and constantly seek to learn more to portray art.

After she had most of the trailer gutted, I joined her in her vision. The 2 us worked on it together, and within 2 months, the mobile Bomb-Shasta dressing room was born. I think I love it almost as much as she does! Where do you get your endless inspiration for all of your shoots? Shopping for vintage clothing and at antique malls helps bring on ideas. I get inspiration from so many things in life. I have a talent for bringing visions in my head into reality. Ideas just pop into my mind, and so it’s just luck that that happens. I can easily see the full

1 6

picture in my mind that I wish to create, so then it’s just a matter of finding all the pieces to pull it together. Looking back to when you were just getting started with your photography, what would be some advise that you would give yourself based on what you know today? Seek out more mentors. Take chances. Follow your dreams. It all sounds cliché, but if I’d moved to Las Vegas or to the coast 20 years ago, I wouldn’t have to look back and wish I hadn’t wasted so much time. I stayed in the Midwest for my kids, and now I realize that they too might be better off if I’d just gone for it and moved us all. Do you have any advise for models on the best way to be prepared for a photo shoot & make themselves someone that a photographer would want to work with again & again for shoots? Choose several outfits, but not too many. Pull together ALL the pieces… the jewelry, the shoes, gloves, stockings, etc. Be prepared. Don’t waste the photographers time waiting on you. Ask the photographer before the session if he/she has any requests to shoot. Ask how many outfits, ask how much time the shoot will take. Learn how to do your own hair and makeup. Communicate. Be clear on the goal, how many images you will get, any fees, have contracts and model releases signed. Be professional. Know your posing unless you’re new to the scene and if so, let the photographer know you need assistance. Don’t ever let a photographer pressure you into posing or wardrobe that you aren’t comfortable with. Then, on the day of the shoot you can relax and have fun with no surprises. Thank you for your time! If someone wants to become a Bombshell girl, how do they set up a photo shoot with you? Contact Carol Ann. The best way is email: CarolAnn@ BombshellVegas.com. We can’t wait to Bombshell you!

#bettylebonbon & #pinkbowcity The winner will be announced via our social media pages on April 30th! The “Librarian skirt is their most popular skirt! A lot of the Betty Le Bonbon fans are nerdier, bookish, cat loving pinups, compared to the more traditional bombshell, sexy pinup.

Betty Le Bonbon Betty Le Bonbon is basically a mother-daughter business - Mum takes care of all the sewing, & the daughter does everything else! Ophelia Cache I'm a singer and an everyday Bettie. For the last couple of years, artists and actresses have dabbled in the Bettie look, but it's just for a shoot here and a video there. I'm attempting to incorporate my Bettie style in everything I do to reinforce my 40's style vocals. Vintage Fashion is an important aspect of my dream! While many artist struggle to find their identity as a musician from sound to visual image, Brooklyn by-way-of Denver, CO songtress, Ophelia Cache, has managed to nail down an identity that is all her own. Influenced by her love of mid century blues and new-age production made popular by artist of recent generation like The Weeknd and Drake, Ophelia has created a musical style that is equal parts Ableton and Gramaphone ready. Never afraid to take a leap of faith, in 2010, Ophelia moved from her quiet town in Denver to the city streets of Brooklyn, NY to pursue a music career. It did not take long for her to blend in. Within a year, she was showing apartments to Brooklyn newcomers in Williamsburg to earn income and now knows the landscape better than some people born there. “…It’s (Brooklyn) the perfect place to start new. You can be as much of yourself as you’d like and no one will care how strange you might be. You can disappear here.” Ophelia’s creative thread is not your typical homage to the torch music of the 40’s we’ve seen over the past few years. She combines her love of Billy Holiday and Judy Garland with that of the more recent innovators in the art of songwriting; such as Amy Winehouse, James Blake and Shingai Shoniwa (of the Noisettes). She has a clear idea of what she wants her music to sound

like and attributes this understanding to her ability to play piano, clarinet and classical percussion. A self-proclaimed “Bettie”, Ophelia has always been drawn to all things rare and classic from her fascination and love for big bangs to vintage clothes and classic cars. Always in character, she attributes her “Bettie” image to her love for the quintessential woman. “During that time period all women were quintessentially beautiful with such ease that it seemed normal to be dressed up all of the time” says Ophelia. A little over a year ago, Ophelia started to build a fanbase with her first independent release “All Things Blue”. “Pity Party” the projects first single garnered attention from popular tastemaker blogs like KickKickSnare and led to collaborations with genre-bending production team The Kickdrums (ASAP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Ka n y e West). — KickKickSnare Her latest release “Leaving London” offers a clear idea of how much she has grown as a singer and songwriter. Making its debut on popular indie music blog Pigeons and Planes, it has since received accolades from digital space elites such as BlahBlahBlahScience, Hypemachine and UK’s The 405. Setting a platform for the release of her upcoming EP Dolly & The Bull, which features assist 5 3 The Kickdrums, from regular collaborators

…It’s like a classic wine that retains, if not surpasses its original quality with time.

Neal Pogue (Janelle Monae, Aloe Blacc) and new-comer APSPDR+ (SZA, EuroLeague, Bosco), whose musical chemistry led to the stand out tracks Dolly and Guillotine.

…Ophelia Cache has the sort of voice you might expect to hear pouring out of a phonograph, or filling a dark, smoky parlor. It has a timeless quality, a poised and measured sensuality… — Pigeons and Planes She is currently putting the finishing touches on Dolly & The Bull, which is slated for release early this year and is a hybrid of genres and influences that will collectively raise a lot of brows and elevate Ophelia Cache to a deserved spot among the most highly acclaimed artists of her generation.

What is the style of your new line going to be & who did the designs? My first round of merchandise will be just the logo with pastel colors that are gender neutral. My boyfriend Nick Holliday created my logo, and it suits perfectly with what we are about. The next run of merchandise will include some really exciting art work by my friend and designer Jessica Louise..but that's top secret for now! In the mean time, I will have black v neck tshirts that range in sizes S- 4x with the logo in two different colors, as well as buttons, cell phone cases, tote bags and more! I'm excited to see everyone's reaction! What inspired you to start your own line for #effyourbeautystandards & what are your goals for the brand? I decided to create a line so women can carry (or wear) them proudly and courageously. It's another way to unite us, all kinds of body types, genders, skinny, short, fat, tall, curvy.. we are so much more powerful together. I would eventually like to travel and speak to schools and young women, have a national campaign and spread the word as much as possible. My first speaking event is the Body Love Conference April 5th in Tuscon- I'm the keynote speaker..it's surreal, and exciting! The only bump I'm hitting is that a lot of major news sources won't feature me or my brand because of the name- and I have thought about changing it, but there is nothing glamorous or cute about shaming women (and men) about

our fashion choices and restricting us based on size. Also, part of my proceeds are going to http://www.ncadv.org to help raise money and awareness against Domestic Violence. It's been a passion of mine for over a decade and something I hope to speak an ambassador for one day in association with my brand.

What started the #effyourbeautystandards movement? About a year ago I posted a photo with this: "I don't know about you, but frankly I am tired of getting told what curvy/fat/plus size girls are “allowed” to wear. For everyone that says we cant show our tummies, wear a pencil/ form fitting skirt, wear a bikini, wear sleveless tops… YOU can! I want YOU to join me in wearing “daring” fashions & stop

6 6

hiding your body because society tells you to.Break out those horizontal stripes & hashtag #effyourbeautystandards on instagram & tumblr. We will take back our right to be a total babe regardless of our size..big OR small we all deserve to feel beautiful." - Tess Munster" I came up with it after dealing with so much online bullying when new model images of me would surface, or just regular outfit posts. It was constant telling me that I was too big to wear something like that, or something along that line. I knew I wasn't alone, and I had enough. So, I started my movement on my bed one sunday crying- and over 150k shares, it's growing strong Can you tell us one of your most inspiring moments with a fan who has related to the #effyourbeautystandards movement? There are too many.. from a young girl writing me saying that my movement kept her from killing herself, to a woman finally feeling good enough about herself to wear her wedding dress, to the other ladies (and men) who have shown their arms for the first time, wore a bathing suit or just embraced their bodies. It's been life changing.

6 8

Some people can be very cruel to others and make comments about their health, body & even their self worth. Being the ambassador for the #effyourbeautystandards movement, how do you encourage people to respond to these attacks? Do these types of comments merit a response in your opinion, or will a simple response with: #effyourbeautystandards work (ha)? The comments hurt, but I encourage women to ignore them. It doesn't do anyone any good allowing that kind of energy in your life. Does that mean I think we should be silent- no. That's the whole part of my movement- to be yourself- unapologetic. We stand for the fact that a woman's body is her own and that she should be able to do whatever she wants and feel beautiful in her own skin. What are some of your favorite ways to make yourself feel beautiful? I'm the epitome of a girly girl- I love getting my hair blown out, manicures and pedicures, etc. However, I feel most beautiful with no makeup on and my hair in a bun and just enjoying time with my son and partner. They both make me feel so beautiful with their actions and sweet words. There is something so amazing about just enjoying the skin you are in with people who love you the most. Aside from your new #effyourbeautystandards line that you are launching, what other projects are you currently working on at the moment? I'm traveling twice a month with Dynamite Dames Photography doing pinup photo shoots with my fans. They get a day of beauty, photos, and the chance to meet me and have one on one time. The most rewarding part of what I get to do is interacting with the women who keep going and my darkest days. What attracts you to the pin-up style of modeling and do you plan to carry any of this style into your #effyourbeautystandards line? To be honest, I used to hate getting labeled as a 'pin up model', because I felt like that limited me to what I was capable of. Yes, it's how I dress and the style that I'm into, but I felt like I had

to branch out more. However after time, I really started to realized what attracted me to it as a young girl- the perfectly quaffed hair, the cat eye liner, the vintage outfits, the list is endless. The early pinups were so glamorous and effortless- I wanted to be like one of the Varga girls, so I just embraced it. In regards to my line, yes definitely. The pastel colors are very 50's/60's and it will definitely have that kitschy little touch! You're a role model to so many women, but who is your personal role model & why? Do you think having a role model is important & what qualities do you look for in a role model? My mother. She is the bravest and strongest woman I know. Not only is she a domestic violence survivor, disabled and paralyzed at age 30 by a man whom she planned on marrying- she lived to tell her story and raise my brother and I. She always encouraged me and said 'One day you are going to be famous'. I would laugh at her, but always secretly hoped I would leave my small town and make something of myself. My dreams were never too big for her- and I owe her everything. It's so important to have someone in your life that believes in you, that gives you that pat on the back when you need it most. A role model to me is someone who is fearless, honest, compassionate, humble and doesn't take life too seriously. What is the best advice you have ever been given & what advice would you give yourself if you could look back to the beginning of your #effyourbeautystandards movement? "If you don't love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?" RuPaul always says it best. When I realized that the key to truly being happy meant loving the body you have now- my whole life changed. You can spend your whole life trying to find happiness in others, but if you don't love what you have- for better or worse..then you will always be miserable. I might not be perfect or the "ideal" of beauty- but I'm happy and that's all that matters.

6 9

Part of my proceeds of the merchandise will go to http://www.ncadv.org/ which is the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. I know most people might be wondering "why not give it to an organization that deals with eating disorders?", but for me it's simple: My mother is a victim (& surviver) of domestic violence, and I am too. My mother didn't have the confidence or strength to leave her abusive relationship, and almost lost her life because of it. I never want to see another person suffer the way I have watched her, so if I can help a family, mother, young woman or boy, etc escape abuse, help give them shelter or simply try and find a way to leave or prevent domestic violence when they see the signs, then that's all I care about. Realizing our worth and channeling our strength is our most powerful tool, and as silly as it sounds a lot it starts with how we treat ourselves. Whether that's not hiding our bodies in fear of what others will say about us, embracing that you are beautiful just the way you were created, or wearing a bathing suit for the first time- those are all powerful steps towards becoming the best versions of ourselves we can become.
