The beauty industry is always looking for new ways to help skin stay looking youthful for longer and collagen drinks are the latest beauty buzzword. Packed with skin-loving collagen, these drinks promise to benefit your complexion from the inside out.

Collagen is a critical part of the structure of the skin’s dermis, giving it its plumpness. However, as we age skin loses collagen, resulting in wrinkles, fine lines, dry, blemished, and thinning skin.

Developed by leading scientists in the United Kingdom, Skinade has established itself as one of the leading collagen drinks currently on the market, boasting an enviable list of celebrities and influencers who extol its anti-aging benefits.

According to Skinade we lose collagen at the rate of 1.5 percent per year from our early 20s. Traditional anti-ageing products only function on the surface of the skin, while collagen drinks get to work from the

inside out. Indeed, a daily dose of collagen can help give skin’s collagen levels a boost, resulting in younger looking skin.

“We tend to see results in the form of increased skin hydration and radiance; reduction in fine lines and wrinkles; increased skin suppleness, healthier looking hair and nails and less breakouts,” Louise Marchesin, head of marketing at Skinade says.

“When we first created the product, we identified a savvier consumer who was no longer satisfied with the idea of multivitamins repacked for skin, hair and nails,” Louise adds. “We wanted to create a resultsdriven professional-grade product that would truly give people the benefits they were looking for.

“We focused our efforts on increasing awareness around the benefits that liquid supplementation can have on general skin health. We wanted to make it clear that we must look beyond classic skincare treatments for the best results.”

Daily dose of collagen

So, how does it all work?

The various collagen brands work in a similar way, with users enjoying a daily drink packed with skinloving collagen. Skinade is available at White Swan Aesthetics in Cayman where it is sold in courses of 150 millilitre bottles in 30, 60, or 90, as well as handy 15 millilitre travel sachets that you simply dilute in water. With no artificial flavours or colouring, and fewer than 35 calories per drink, Skinade boasts one of the highest amounts of collagen on the market, promising to plump skin and restore a youthful glow.

“Cayman clients love a natural non-invasive approach to anti-ageing and Skinade fits that perfectly,” Dr. Imogen Bexfield, of White Swan Aesthetics says. “There are plenty of products which address skin resurfacing, but Skinade is different because it works from the inside out.”

She adds: “Skinade has one of the highest bioavailabilities of all the collagen products on the market, meaning a much greater proportion of the product is absorbed. Each drink contains 7,000 milligrams of highgrade hydrolysed collagen which works alongside the other micronutrients in the product, including l-lysine to help with the collagen matrix, vitamin B which helps with the regulation of collagen, and MSM to improve skin elasticity. It’s all these added ingredients which sets Skinade apart from other collagen drinks.”

My experience

So, could a daily dose of Skinade really help my (almost 40!) skin look more youthful? It’s recommended that you drink one Skinade a day for a minimum of 30 days in order to see results, and then continue to incorporate the product into your daily skincare regimen for maximum effect.

I plumped for a 30-day supply of Skinade’s travel sachets and gave it a whirl. I’ve always taken great care of my skin, but like most people, my skincare regimen has taken a more traditional route over the years, including creams, lotions, serums, lots of SPF to protect against Cayman’s tropical sunshine, and the odd indulgent facial.

I opted for the travel sachets for convenience. They are less bulky and easy to travel with, which is a must for me. The sachets are incredibly easy to use too; just simply tear off the top and pour the thick bright yellow liquid into a glass, then dilute with cold water.

I found it easiest to remember to drink Skinade first thing in the morning, just before my daily cup of tea. It has a refreshing mangosteen taste, a pleasant surprise as supplement drinks aren’t renowned for always having a pleasant taste.

Let’s be realistic here, these are nutrients, not a knife, so you can’t expect to miraculously look 10 years younger, but I certainly saw a difference after the 30-day trial. My skin looked clearer and more radiant, demonstrating that a collagen supplement such as Skinade is an excellent way to boost your daily skincare regimen.

“I always advise people to review their current topical skincare regimen and simplify it, thereby making space for Skinade,” Louise says. “Protecting your skin from the outside and supporting and nourishing it from the inside. That is the key to great skin.”
