I am an extremely motivated and ambitious individual looking to complete my Part 3 in an equally inspiring practice. I believe that good architecture is a symbiosis of creative conceptual thinking and a strong technical understanding. Being able to create a seamless detail that completes an elegant facade is just as important as the first expressive sketch on the paper.

A little more about me...
.....................................................
I worked on a range of projects from one-off houses through to large scale hotel extensions, predominantly around the North East of Scotland. This covered many stages of the design process which developed and improved my technical knowledge which I now take pride in having a good understanding of. I was also given responsibilities in dealing with and meeting clients of small projects. Time management and efficiency were other skills which developed greatly.

S O C I A L H O U S I N G Location // Suzhou, China Stage 5+6 // MArch Big Crit 2013 + 2014 Yearbook 2013 + 2014 RIBA Eyeline Competition 2014 This project challenges the current trend of building high in China. The same densities can be achieved by designing blocks that are arranged so that they promote the inherent street culture that Chinese cities are losing. The idea of ‘lane living’ is continued throughout. A prefabricated method also satisfies the speed that mass housing is required at.
PERSPECTIVE
SECTIONAL PERSPECTIVE
S O C I A L H O U S I N G To address the need for mass housing at the speed that China requires this prototype explored the limits of off-site manufacturing. A response of timber post and beam with SIPs infill created a response that was both technically robust and architecturally aesthetic. Four varying conditions of the block were designed. Each responded to their position in the overall site plan and maximised views, daylighting, ventilation and public and private spaces.

T H E S I S P R O J E C T Location // Suzhou, China Stage 5+6 // MArch Big Crit 2013 + 2014 RIBA Eyeline Competition 2014 Following on from the previous project, this piece of research and design looked into other methods of Off-Site Manufacturing in more critical detail. This took the form of an in-depth precedent study as well as a conceptual design proposal that used the themes of the previous project but re-imagined the scheme as per the principles of Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67 scheme.

S H E LT E R E D H O U S I N G Location // Aberdeen Stage 3 // BSc Arch Yearbook 2011 This project uses Swiss inspired solidity at street level but a softer internal courtyard elevation to create an environment that residents can enjoy yet feel safe in. The building to sits comfortably within the streetscape but also defines its presence with strong horizontals and verticals. The internal spaces were ambitious but reflect a continuity between inside and outside.
L I B R A R Y EXTENSION Location // St. Andrews Stage 3 // BSc Arch The intentions of this project were to respect the existing 14thC library and create an extension that was unobtrusive. However, the interior would be the focal point of the building - the entrance space in particular. The key themes were the control of light and concrete, and the symbiosis of the two created an internal environment that accented the grandeur of the library.
