And views of the journey over the Lammermuir Hills to Longformacus. They say hereabouts “You leave the world and land in Longformacus.

A haven of peace and tranquillity on the edge of Longformacus, the heart of the Lammermuir Hills. Craigie Lodge a former Manse of the Parish, is a small Georgian House with comfortable, beautifully proportioned rooms and stunning views south to Dirrington Great Law. The house is situated at the end of a farm lane in its own wooded grounds with an open outlook and a substantial kitchen garden. Time spent at Craigie offers: exceptional peace, good clear air and wonderful walks directly onto well marked hill tracks with an abundance of hill forts, castles, ancient monuments and reservoirs to explore or simply walk in the grounds where there are places to sit and meditate, paint, draw, garden or commune with nature.

Daily Rhythm

Centre for Goethean Science and Art Craigie Lodge is owned and run by the Life Science Trust, an educational charity with its main ecological educational and residential / respite activities near Gifford at Pishwanton Wood, 13 miles away on the north side of the Lammermuirs. At Longformacus we offer Retreat facilities, short courses, quiet holidays and ‘bed and breakfast’ and are definitely “off the beaten track”. Craigie Lodge has fine, homely, basic accommodation with catering for Christian retreats on a daily basis, or up to 3 bedrooms (twin or double) for people who want to come on a personal retreat to rest, recouperate; write or simply be at peace. In the house and gardens there is a strictly no smoking policy.

As part of the Camphill Movement, the rhythm of the day is gently structured (if wished) to allow some formal prayer and study time, regular meals and plenty of time in between to be alone or read, write, walk or to join in activities at Pishwanton Wood, our Project near Gifford, or in the garden at Craigie Lodge. No activities are obligatory, but it is helpful if shared meals can be fairly regular. Craigie Lodge is also part of the Quiet Garden Trust Movement (www.quietgarden.co.uk) 7.45 8.00- 8.30 9.00 10.30 12.30 - 1.30 4.30 6.30
