THE SERIES [VS] CAPITALS

On Feb. 17 the Penguins host the Washington Capitals for the final time this season, with one game remaining in the season series — Feb. 25 at Washington. . . The Capitals have won both previous games, outscoring the Penguins, 7-0, with Braden Holtby earning shutouts in both games by stopping all 58 shots he faced. . . Pittsburgh has gone 125:48 without a goal against Washington since Sidney Crosby scored at 14:12 of the third period in a 2-0 victory here last March 11. But this is not the Penguins’ longest shutout sequence against the Capitals. That was 160:14 spanning two seasons and began after Evgeni Malkin’s goal at 2:13 of the second period of the Penguins’ 3-1 Winter Classic loss to Washington on Jan. 1, 2011. Michal Neuvirth then earned consecutive shutouts 15 days apart in February, 2011, and the string was finally snapped when James Neal scored 2:27 into the first period of the first game against the Capitals the following season, Oct. 13 here in Pittsburgh, a 3-2 Penguins’ loss. . . Alex Ovechkin has 25 goals and 43 points in 37 games against the Penguins, while Nicklas Backstrom has two goals and 28 points in 27 games against Pittsburgh. . . Crosby has 17 goals and 50 points in 31 games against the Caps, while Malkin has nine goals and 39 points in 27 games against Washington. continued on page 10

On Feb. 19 the Penguins host the Columbus Blue Jackets for the first time this season. The only game this season between the teams, who met in the first round of the playoffs last spring, was a 4-3 shootout victory by the Jackets in Columbus on Dec. 13. Kris Letang had two goals in the final 2:11 of that game to force overtime. . . That loss snapped the Penguins’ six-game regular-season win streak against Columbus, which hasn’t beaten Pittsburgh here in the regular season since Feb. 8, 2011 (4-1). . . This is the Jackets’ first regular-season game here in 14 months. . . Boone Jenner scored on a penalty shot in the Jackets’ win over Pittsburgh earlier this season. . . The teams will meet here again on March 1 in a 5PM game, then conclude the season series in Columbus on April 4, at 2PM. . . The Jackets’ Nick Foligno has three goals and 16 points in 23 career regular-season games against the Penguins. . . Sidney Crosby missed the previous game against Columbus with the mumps. He has five goals and 17 points in 11 career games against Columbus.

These games against the Capitals on Feb. 17 and Blue Jackets on Feb. 19 are the only consecutive home games for the Penguins in February. Pittsburgh will play games on consecutive days this weekend, in St. Louis on Saturday and then home against Florida on Sunday in a 6PM start. . . Pittsburgh was hoping to have Blake Comeau return to the lineup last week after a December wrist injury. Comeau, who had 11 goals in his first 32 games, had missed 20 games going into last week’s home game against Detroit. . . David Perron had eight goals in his first 15 games with the Penguins after scoring in consecutive games at Edmonton on Feb. 4 (2-0 win) and at Calgary on Feb. 6 (4-0 win). . . Marc-Andre Fleury was in goal for both of those victories, becoming the first Pittsburgh goaltender to earn shutouts in consecutive road games. Earlier this season, Fleury also recorded shutouts in consecutive home games against Los Angeles and Buffalo, and his shutout over the Flames was the 36th of his career and his eighth of the season, most ever in one season by a Penguins’ goaltender. Tom Barrasso had seven in 1997-98. . . Crosby was three points off the NHL scoring lead when play began last week.

February may be the shortest month of the year but that doesn’t mean it’s an insignificant month in NHL circles. “As you hit February in this league you gotta be bang-on,” Penguins head coach Mike Johnston observed. “We’ve gotta get going as a team and we’ve got to start playing the quality of game we’ll need to play in April.” The All-Star break has come and gone. The playoffs are a month closer to commencing. And the time is now to begin demonstrating postseason readiness. “This month is going to be huge for us,” winger David Perron maintained. “We want to jell as a team and show the chemistry. “It’s important down the stretch, for sure.” Added goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury: “We have to start building and doing things consistently every night so that when the playoffs come we’re ready.” The start to February wasn’t what the Penguins were hoping for, as they suffered a 4-0 shutout at the hands of the Nashville Predators on Feb. 1 at CONSOL Energy Center. A three-games-in-four-nights swing through Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver quickly generated the type of momentum the Penguins will be seeking the rest of the month. continued on page 24

Fleury and the Penguins registered back-to-back shutouts of the Oilers (2-0 on Feb. 4) and Flames (4-0 on Feb. 6) before the Canucks returned the favor (5-0 on Feb. 7). Along the way the points of emphasis that were being discussed then, and will continue to be emphasized throughout the rest of the month, included: The front of the net at both ends: “It’s around-the-net touches, it’s tight screens, it’s battle in those areas,” Johnston emphasized. “And then on the other side of the puck, if you defend well away from the net it makes it much easier when you get back to the net.” The four-centers model the Penguins unveiled following the acquisition of Maxim Lapierre from St. Louis and the return of Evgeni Malkin from injury: “Now our depth down the middle is really good,” Johnston said. “[Brandon] Sutter plays a good two-way game. Sid [Crosby] and Geno [Malkin] are pretty dynamic. And Lapierre can play a real grinding game, a working game.” The evolution of the Chris Kunitz-Crosby-Perron line in the wake of the Penguins acquiring Perron from Edmonton, and the unit’s subsequent production and apparent chemistry: “You just have to make sure that you’re communicating,” Crosby said. “It’s fun when you’re able to produce and see chances, get rewarded, see the puck go in the back of the net. The overall commitment to defense that helped allow Fleury to tie the franchise single-season record for shutouts with his seventh on Feb. 4 at Edmonton and then break it with his eighth on Feb. 6 in Calgary: “I think it shows how well our team has been playing in front of me and helping me out,” Fleury said. “That’s why we’ve been successful.” The adjustment in attitude and approach that has seemingly been a factor in Fleury’s record-setting success: “You just see coming into this season he’s more calm, more under control,” defenseman Kris Letang said. “He’s really playing well.” Letang’s emergence as a two-way player on the blueline: “Everybody sees him as an offensive defenseman,” Johnston said. “But defensively we match him a lot of nights against everybody’s top lines. He’s a great shutdown guy because he gets back as fast as he gets up ice. But if you’re trying to create on the attack he just adds so much.” The value of stability in the forward lines and the defensive pairs and the consistency and chemistry that can promote: “You’re talking a little bit about systems; it’s more just who you’re playing with and the chemistry of that group,” Johnston said. “The more we can get set guys playing together the better off we’re going to be.” The big-picture significance of winger Beau Bennett even when the Penguins determine Bennett should be a healthy scratch: “We want to develop Beau,” Johnston said. “He’s a good young player and he’s going to be a key part of our organization and our team.”

MARIO LEMIEUX CO-OWNER/CHAIRMAN

Mario Lemieux, one of the most respected figures in National Hockey League history, is in his 16th season as co-owner and chairman of the board of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Under the leadership of Lemieux and co-owner Ron Burkle, the Penguins have become one of the premier franchises in the NHL and in all of sports, leading the way in fan relations, youth marketing, community outreach and innovative technology while consistently putting a winning product on the ice — including eight straight playoff appearances, three conference finals appearances in the past seven years and a Stanley Cup championship in 2009. Known as Le Magnifique, Lemieux was one of the greatest players in NHL history from 1984-97 and 2000-06, winning six league scoring titles, three MVP awards and two Conn Smythe Trophies in addition to two Stanley Cups. A gifted 6-foot-4 centerman, he dominated play for parts of three decades despite a relentless series of medical setbacks, including multiple back surgeries and a battle with Hodgkin’s disease. He retired in 2006 as the No. 7 all-time scorer in NHL history with 1,723 points. He also ranked eighth all-time in goals (690) and 10th in assists (1,033). After retiring as a player in 1997, he put together an ownership group to buy the Penguins out of bankruptcy in September, 1999 and then returned to the ice on Dec. 27, 2000 — becoming the first player-owner of the modern era. In addition to his legendary hockey accomplishments, he continues to oversee the Mario Lemieux Foundation for cancer research and neo-natal research and hosts its annual golf tournament, which has raised more than $9 million for charity. Ron Burkle, one of the preeminent investors in technology, retail, manufacturing and distribution industries, is in his 16th season as co-owner of the Penguins. He teamed with Mario Lemieux to buy the team out of bankruptcy in September, 1999, and together they have become one of the outstanding ownership tandems in professional sports. Among Burkle’s many significant contributions to the Penguins was his essential role in negotiations for a new arena. CONSOL Energy Center is considered one of the finest indoor facilities in North America and has attracted many national-level events to Pittsburgh. Under the leadership of Lemieux and Burkle, the Penguins have sold out every game for seven-plus seasons. Burkle founded the Yucaipa Companies in 1986 and has served as Chairman of the Board and controlling shareholder of numerous companies, including Alliance Entertainment, Golden State Foods, Dominick’s, Fred Meyer, Ralphs and Food4Less. Ron is Co-Chairman of the Burkle Center for International Relations at UCLA and is broadly involved in the community. David Morehouse is Chief Executive Officer and President of the Penguins, overseeing every aspect of the team’s operations. Since Morehouse was named President in April, 2007, the Penguins have reshaped their image and strategic vision with an emphasis on branding, fan relations, youth marketing, community interaction, corporate outreach and innovative technology. He was given the additional responsibilities of Chief Executive Officer in September, 2010. He reports directly to co-owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle. An emphasis on branding and marketing, coupled with the team’s success on the ice, has enabled the Penguins to lead all U.S.-based NHL teams in local television ratings for five straight seasons. In 2012-13, the Penguins’ rating of 12.66 was the highest achieved by any U.S.-based NHL, NBA or MLB team on a regional sports network since 2002. Keeping with that trend, the Penguins rank among the NHL leaders in website traffic and Twitter followers while continually setting new standards for merchandise sales. Youth hockey participation also is on the rise — in part because of the organization’s support for efforts such as Sidney Crosby’s Little Penguins Learn to Play program, which distributes free head-to-toe hockey equipment, including skates, to 1,000 kids ages 5-7 each year. Jim Rutherford is in his first season as the Penguins GM after being hired on June 6, 2014. Rutherford spent the previous 20 years as GM of the Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers franchise from 1994-2014 where he was a key architect of the Hurricanes’ 2006 Stanley Cup championship squad and their 2002 Stanley Cup finalist team. In addition to his general manager duties, he also served 20 years as president of Carolina/Hartford, taking the post in 1994. In his role as president/GM, Rutherford oversaw operations on both the hockey and business sides of the organization. He helped spearhead the efforts to bring the 2004 NHL Draft and 2011 NHL All-Star Game to Raleigh. Over the course of his executive career, Rutherford has won multiple awards, including The Hockey News ‘Executive of the Year’ in 2002 and ’06. Additionally, he was voted by his NHL general management peers as Sporting News ‘Executive of the Year’ in 2006. Before his 20 years in the NHL, Rutherford was recognized as the 1987 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) ‘Executive of the Year’, and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) ‘Executive of the Year’ in back-to-back years with the Windsor Spitfires in 1987 and ’88. He oversaw a Spitfires team that won the OHL championship in 1988 and earned a berth in the Memorial Cup. In addition to his time with Hartford/Carolina, Rutherford also spent over 30 years working with Compuware Sports Corporation, overseeing the purchase of Windsor in 1984 and bringing the first American-based OHL franchise to Detroit in 1989. Rutherford played 13 years as a goaltender in the NHL, appearing in 457 career NHL games with Pittsburgh, Toronto, Los Angeles and Detroit. Selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the first round (10th overall) in the 1969 NHL Draft, he represented Canada at the 1977 and ’79 World Championships. JASON BOTTERILL ASSOCIATE GENERAL MANAGER

Jason Botterill is in his first season as associate general manager after being promoted from assistant general manager on June 6, 2014. As associate GM, Botterill assists GM Jim Rutherford on all hockey-related matters, including scouting, player development and contract negotiations. He also serves as GM of the Penguins’ top minorleague affiliate, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL). The WBS Penguins have made the playoffs all five years he has overseen the team, including back-to-back berths in the Eastern Conference Final (2013 and ‘14). Prior to his promotion, Botterill, 38, spent the previous five years as the Penguins assistant GM from 2009-14, and the two years prior to that as the team’s director of hockey administration beginning in 2007-08 where he was a key architect of the Penguins’ 2009 Stanley Cup championship team. Before joining the Penguins, Botterill worked for NHL Central Registry and as a scout for the Dallas Stars. Botterill was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the first round (20th overall) in 1994 NHL Draft and played in 88 NHL games for Dallas, Atlanta, Calgary and Buffalo before his career was cut short due to injury. He also suited up for 393 career minorleague games in the American and International Hockey Leagues, tallying 257 career points. A native of Edmonton who grew up in Winnipeg, Botterill played four years of college hockey at the University of Michigan and helped lead the Wolverines to an NCAA title in 1996. Botterill represented Canada in three straight World Junior Championships from 1994-96, winning gold medals all three years. During the ’94 and ’95 WJCs, Botterill was coached by current Penguins head coach Mike Johnston. Following his playing career, he received his MBA from his alma mater, the University of Michigan.

TOM FITZGERALD ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Tom Fitzgerald is in his first season as assistant general manager after spending the previous five seasons as the Penguins assistant to the GM from 2009-14. Fitzgerald’s duties include monitoring Penguins’ prospects playing in college, junior hockey, Europe and with the club’s American Hockey League affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Additionally, he advises GM Jim Rutherford on all personnel decisions. Fitzgerald was named interim assistant coach of the Penguins on Feb. 15, 2009 and helped the club win its third Stanley Cup championship four months later. He began his executive career as the Penguins player development coach in 2007-08. Drafted in the first round (17th overall) by the New York Islanders in the 1986 NHL Draft, Fitzgerald played 17 seasons in the NHL, appearing in 1,097 career games where he recorded 329 career points (139G-190A). He has represented his country nationally three times — once with Team USA at the 1987 World Junior Championship and twice in the World Championships (1989, ’91).

BILL GUERIN ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

Bill Guerin is in his first season as assistant general manager after serving as Pittsburgh’s player development coach from 2011-14. Guerin’s responsibilities as assistant general manager include serving as a liaison between the players and management. As the Penguins player development coach, Guerin was instrumental in helping develop the Penguins’ minor league, junior and college prospects. Originally drafted by New Jersey in the first round (5th overall) of the 1989 NHL Draft, Guerin won two Stanley Cups (Pittsburgh, 2009; New Jersey, 1995) and spent 18 seasons in the NHL — including his final two with the Penguins. Guerin’s leadership and on-ice performance after being acquired at the NHL trade deadline was a key in Pittsburgh’s ’09 title. Guerin, a four-time NHL All-Star, tallied 429 career goals and 856 points in 1,263 career NHL games, including five 30-goal and two 40-goal seasons. He was elected to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.

Jason Karmanos is in his first season as the vice president of hockey operations after being named to his current position on June 12, 2014. Karmanos assists GM Jim Rutherford in all aspects of hockey operations. Before joining Pittsburgh, Karmanos spent 15 years as an executive for the Carolina Hurricanes from 1998-2013, serving various roles with Carolina, including executive director of hockey operations and vice president/assistant general manager under current Penguins GM Jim Rutherford. MIKE JOHNSTON HEAD COACH

Mike Johnston is in his first season as head coach of the Penguins after being named to his position on June 25, 2014. Johnson had spent the past six years as the general manager/head coach of the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 2008-13, where he helped turn Portland into a Canadian Hockey League powerhouse and perennial contender. Under Johnston’s guidance, Portland made four straight WHL Championship berths (2010-14), winning the WHL championship and earning a Memorial Cup berth in 2012-13. During that time his team won four straight conference championships. Johnston’s teams are known for their offensive prowess — during his six seasons with Portland, his team’s goals for total rose each year from 176 in 2008-09 to a league-leading 338 in ‘13-14. Johnston also served two NHL stints as assistant/associate coach of the Vancouver Canucks (1999-06) and associate coach of the Los Angeles Kings (2006-08). With Johnston’s help, Vancouver made four straight trips to the postseason and won the Northwest Division crown in 2003-04. He has represented his country multiple times internationally, including serving as assistant coach of Canada’s 1998 Olympic Team. As an assistant/associate coach for Team Canada, he has won five medals (2 gold; 2 silver; 1 bronze) at the World Championships and two gold medals at the World Junior Championships. Among the players he has coached with Canada are Jonathan Toews, Ryan Getzlaf, Chris Kunitz, Martin Brodeur, Jarome Iginla, Rob Blake and Martin St. Louis. Johnston has authored three books with former NHL player Ryan Walter: “Simply the Best: Insights and Strategies from Great Hockey Coaches”, “Simply the Best: Players on Performance” and “Hockey Plays and Strategies”. He played college hockey at Brandon University in Manitoba and Acadia University in Nova Scotia and has a Master’s Degree in coaching science from Acadia University. RICK TOCCHET ASSISTANT COACH

Rick Tocchet is in his first season as an assistant coach of the Penguins. Tocchet was hired as an assistant coach by Tampa Bay in July, 2008 and was elevated to interim head coach on Nov. 14 of that year. He was named head coach following the ‘08-09 season, where he remained in that position until 2010. Tocchet began his coaching career as an assistant with the Colorado Avalanche for two years (2002-04) before spending one season (‘05-06) with the Phoenix Coyotes. A veteran of 18 NHL seasons, including parts of three seasons with the Penguins from 1992-94, Tocchet won a Stanley Cup championship with Pittsburgh in 1992. The 4-time NHL All-Star (1989, ‘90, ‘91, ‘93) played 1,144 career NHL games and totaled 440 goals, 952 points and 2,972 penalty minutes in his NHL career. Tocchet was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the sixth round (125th overall) of the 1983 NHL Draft.

GARY AGNEW ASSISTANT COACH

Gary Agnew is in his first season as an assistant coach with the Penguins. Prior to joining Pittsburgh, Agnew was an assistant coach for the St. Louis Blues for two seasons from 2012-14, helping the Blues win the fifth-most games in the NHL during that span (81). Agnew spent four years as an assistant coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2006-10, where he helped the Blue Jackets earn a postseason berth for the first time in franchise history in 2008-09. As head coach of the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch from 2000-06, Agnew won a franchise-record 220 games, and he led Syracuse to its first-ever division title in 2001-02. He also has 14 years of coaching experience in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), including 11 as a head coach. He has won over 350 career OHL games with London (1989-94, ‘97-00), Kingston (1994-97) and Oshawa (2011-12). Agnew was named OHL Coach of the Year twice — in 1993 and ’98. MIKE BALES GOALTENDING COACH

Mike Bales is in his second season as the Penguins goaltending coach after serving the previous two seasons as the team’s goaltending development coach from 2011-13. Under his guidance, Marc-Andre Fleury won 39 games in 2013-14 and tied his career high by recording five shutouts. Bales was also key to Jeff Zatkoff’s development in his first NHL season where he posted a 12-6-2 record, 2.61 GAA and .912 save percentage. Bales, a native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, spent 18 seasons playing professionally from 1992-2010, including stints in the NHL with Boston and Ottawa. Bales also saw action with teams in the AHL, IHL, Germany, Sweden and Northern Ireland. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round (105th overall) of the 1990 NHL Draft. Before turning pro, Bales played three collegiate seasons with Ohio State University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) from 1989-92. TRAVIS WILLIAMS CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

Travis Williams is in his fourth season as Chief Operating Officer of the Penguins, overseeing finance, legal affairs, technology, business development and arena operations while reporting directly to CEO/President David Morehouse. Williams joined the Penguins in 2008 as Senior Vice President of Business Affairs/General Counsel and oversaw the construction and development of CONSOL Energy Center — bringing the project to completion on time and under budget. He is the organization’s liaison with building manager AEG Facilities and works closely with AEG on all arena-related events and initiatives. In recent years, CONSOL Energy Center has hosted such national events as the 2012 NCAA Men’s Basketball Second and Third Rounds, the 2012 NHL Draft, the 2013 NCAA Frozen Four and the 2014 U.S. Gymnastics Championships. Williams also is the Penguins’ point man on the development of the former Civic Arena site and the construction of the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry. Williams graduated from Penn State University and received a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University, summa cum laude. He lives in Nevillewood with his wife, Nichole, and six children.

DAVID PEART SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, SALES

David Peart is in his fifth full season as Senior Vice President of Sales and Service, overseeing all local revenue generating departments for the team including business partnerships, corporate sales, premium seating, ticket sales, broadcasting, and concession and merchandise sales strategy. Under his direction, the Penguins created the team’s Founding Partner Program at CONSOL Energy Center and launched one of the most comprehensive fan engagement initiatives in sports. In 2014, Peart was awarded the InStadium Experience Innovation Award presented by Sports and Entertainment Alliance in Technology for his work with the Penguins’ PensPoints loyalty program. Peart has held senior-level positions with the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers. The Kennedy Township native is a graduate of Point Park University, where he is a member of the Board of Trustees. He and his wife, Julie, have two children.

PENGUINS RADIO NETWORK PLAY-BY-PLAY ANNOUNCER

One of the most unique broadcasters in professional sports, Mike Lange is calling games in his 40th season with the Penguins, handling radio play-by-play on the club’s flagship station, 105.9 FM The X and the Penguins Radio Network. Known for his creative and colorful style, including trademark phrases such as “Buy Sam A Drink And Get His Dog One, Too,” Lange was awarded the Foster Hewitt award by the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001. Lange’s relationship with the Penguins began in 1974-75, when he broke into the NHL as a radio play-by-play man. He left for one season, but returned in 1976-77 and has been a fixture on the Penguins’ scene ever since. Lange did radio exclusively until 1979, when games were simulcast on radio and TV. He served as the television voice of the Penguins through 2005-06, before returning to the radio booth in 2006-07. A native of Sacramento, California, Lange earned a degree in broadcasting from Sacramento State University before starting his career as the voice of the Phoenix Roadrunners (WHL) in 1970. He also served as the play-by-play voice of the San Diego Gulls (WHL) in 1973-74 before joining the Penguins. In addition to his tenure with the Penguins, Lange handled play-by-play duties for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1986-87. A well-known member of the Pittsburgh community, Lange makes numerous personal appearances throughout the year and is actively involved in charity work.

PENGUINS RADIO NETWORK COLOR ANALYST

Two-time Stanley Cup Champion Phil Bourque is in his 12th season on the Penguins broadcast team, serving as color commentator alongside Mike Lange. A gritty winger/defenseman, Bourque was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent in 1982, and went on to record 164 points (75G-89A) in 344 regular-season games with the Penguins between 1983 and 1992. For his career he totaled 199 points (88G-111A) in 477 games with the Penguins, New York Rangers and Ottawa. Since retiring from professional hockey in 2000, Bourque has cohosted Penguins pre- and post-game shows on the Penguins Radio Network and worked as a contributor for ROOT SPORTS’ coverage of Penguins hockey.

After a 17-year career as the Penguins beat writer for the Washington Observer-Reporter, Bob Grove joined the team’s radio broadcasts in 1998 as a frequent studio host/co-host and is now in his seventh season as full-time host of the pre- and post-game broadcasts and intermissions on the Penguins Hockey Network. Grove wrote Pittsburgh Penguins: The Official History of the First 30 Years in 1997 and has contributed game notes to GOAL Magazine inserts or IceTime programs for every Pittsburgh home game since 1986. He was also a contributor to the second edition of Total Hockey and to The Game I’ll Never Forget. He is a senior writer covering hockey for the Pittsburgh Sports Report and also hosts Bob Grove’s Hot Stove on Penguins Radio 24/7.

Steve Kolbe enters his second season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Kolbe spent 14 seasons (1997-2011) as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Washington Capitals, broadcasting over 1,100 games. His voice has been heard internationally on the NHL Network, XM Radio, NHL Radio, and ESPN. Kolbe broadcast the Stanley Cup Finals in 1998 and the NHL Winter Classic in 2011, and he was featured on the NHL Network’s documentary Voices in 2008. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Kolbe has over 25 years of broadcasting experience, and most recently has been a co-host of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Report on MASN (Mid Atlantic Sports Network) as well as talk show host for Major League Baseball coverage and NHL insider on CBS Radio 105.7 in Baltimore. Kolbe is a 1989 graduate of Michigan State University and earned a B.A. in telecommunications.

2015 PEE WEE QUÉBEC

INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Thanks to GNC, the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite Pee Wee Major (2002 birth age) team is gearing up to participate in the 56th annual Pee Wee Québec International Tournament, to be held in Québec City from February 11– 22nd. The tournament, also known as the Pee Wee World Championships, features over 2,200 players from more than 15 countries, and draws over 200,000 spectators each year. Many former and current NHL players have participated in this prestigious tournament, including Penguins owner Mario Lemieux, ROOT Sports broadcaster Bob Errey, and current Penguins players Marc-Andre Fleury, Pascal Dupuis, Rob Scuderi, Steve Downie and Beau Bennett. The Pee Wee Québec International Tournament is also the centerpiece of Québec’s Winter Carnival, which is the largest winter carnival and the third largest outdoor festival in the world. This event attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, and features winter activities common to Québec’s traditional lifestyle. The tournament also provides its participants with a unique cultural experience. Between games, the players are given tours of the historic areas of Québec City and are hosted by and live with Québec families who share their French-Canadian heritage with the participants. These experiences are truly unique and unforgettable, and certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity. ADULT HOCKEY TOURNAMENT Penguins Hockey Development is pleased to announce the fourth annual Labatt Blue Adult Hockey Classic is being held on March 20-22, 2015. The tournament features round-robin games that will be played at Ice Castle and the Championship games to be played at CONSOL Energy Center on March 28th. Each participant in the tournament also receives a ticket to the Penguins game on Saturday, March 28th. The teams participating in the Championship games will have the luxury of sitting in one of the Party Suites. The tournament will feature 30 teams competing in at least four divisions: A, B, C+ and C-. Tournament fees are $1,850 per team with a maximum roster of 13 players, including the goaltender. In 2014, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and UPMC Sports Medicine expanded the Heads UP Pittsburgh concussion awareness program to include a free flexibility kit to the first 2,000 participants in the new testing period that began on June 16. KIDS WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE Free cognitive baseline testing was available on a first-come, first-served basis for athletes ages 10-14. For athletes under 10 years of age, a Pediatric version of the test was available at a minimal cost. Community College of Allegheny County once again served as host to testing at its Boyce, North, South and West Hills Center campuses along with UPMC Center for Sports Medicine on the South Side. Community College of Beaver County joined the initiative as a new site for testing and education. The entire testing process takes about one hour. Certified athletic trainers from UPMC Sports Medicine supervise the program and testing. While the athletes are being tested, parents meet with the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion staff to learn about the Heads UP Pittsburgh program and how to handle concussions if they occur. Heads UP Pittsburgh, the first program of its kind and a blueprint copied by other NHL organizations, began in 2011 with baseline testing and parental education programs for youth hockey players. In 2012, the Penguins Foundation expanded the program to include athletes of all sports ages 10 to 14. Since the programâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s inception, over 13,000 athletes have been tested and over 33,000 people educated. HOCKEY IS FOR

EVERYONE For years Western Pennsylvania youth sports have been dominated by the likes of football, basketball and baseball. Recently however, the region has begun to see a change in preference and participation in sports. Hockey is rapidly becoming the most popular and fastest growing sport in the area. Success seen with the Pittsburgh Penguins on the NHL ice has surely created a demand and a certain excitement around the game, however the popularity of hockey goes well beyond the wins and world class talent the Penguins possess. A genuine love for the game is starting to sweep the area. Kids are beginning to play hockey at younger and younger ages thanks to the Little Penguins: Learn to Play Hockey program. This program will allow 1,000 kids, ages 4-8, to receive free head-to-toe gear all thanks to the support of Sidney Crosby, Reebok and DICKâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;S Sporting Goods. Since it began in 2008-09 over 5,200 have been introduced to hockey through this program. The Penguins have also teamed up with the DICKâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;S Sporting Goods, Trib Total Media and the YMCA to create the YMCA Jr. Penguins program which introduces children to the sport through ball hockey. Each year, over 3,100 children participate in organized ball hockey at local YMCAs. Recently the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and Highmark have partnered together for Project PowerPlay, which will build 12 dek hockey rinks throughout Allegheny County over a threeyear period and allow local residents to play dek hockey for free. Dek hockey is becoming a great way to learn and play hockey without having ice, and was also vital in the development of current Penguins forward Beau Bennett who grew up in sunny California. continued on page 129

In 2014, the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation embarked on a new venture, Tablets in Education. This innovative, new program combined the latest in tablet technology with educational apps and content. With the assistance of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU3), 60 schools in Allegheny County were selected to participate in the first year of the program; distributing 1,200 Kindle Fire HDX 7 tablets to local schools. Each school enrolled in Tablets in Education received 20 Kindle Fire HDX 7 tablets, a mobile charging station and 20 shock resistant covers. Each device was then loaded with over 50 educational apps, books and specialized content. These apps were carefully selected with the assistance of Common Sense Media and the professionals at the AIU3, providing more than $100,000 worth of content. The devices are designed to be utilized for unique educational programs, extended learning programs and programs for children with disabilities. The technology utilized in Tablets in Education is designed to enhance a childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s academic achievement while continuing to support their social development and relationships with adults and peers through the most critical years of an adolescentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s growth and development. A portion of the funding for this new program was made possible by contributions through the EITC (Educational Improvement Tax Credit) program. ICEBURGH A delight for children of all ages, Iceburgh — the official mascot of the Pittsburgh Penguins not only provides fans with exciting game entertainment but this large, energetic bird can also be seen at a multitude of community events and elementary schools throughout the greater Pittsburgh area. Iceburgh arrived on the scene in 1992 and is a staple at all team events. During Penguins’ home games, fans most definitely notice the antics of Iceburgh leading sections of fans in cheers, greeting young children on the concourse or displaying his athleticism on-ice between periods. In 1995, Iceburgh made his Hollywood debut, starring alongside Jean Claude Van Damme in the motion picture Sudden Death. He has gained both national and international exposure through film, TV and a variety of personal appearances. Iceburgh wasted no time getting acquainted with his new home at CONSOL Energy Center in September of 2010. You can find Iceburgh sliding down stair banisters, dancing in the stands and tossing t-shirts to fans. Iceburgh has performed in Russia and Japan, was featured in the opening of ESPN’s SportsCenter and recently performed in front of a record crowd of over 68,000 at Heinz Field for the 2011 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. He is also regularly featured on in-game videos and has appeared in advertisements and television promos on ROOT Sports. In addition to his annual trek to the NHL All-Star Game, Iceburgh makes annual appearances at the Mascot Olympics held in Orlando, FL. Now in its third season, Pittsburgh Penguins Elite is one of the country’s premier youth hockey organizations. A joint effort of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins and corporate partner DICK’S Sporting Goods, Penguins Elite offers a comprehensive program for player development and includes 14 teams in various age group — nine boys’ teams and five girls’ teams. The program features an outstanding coaching staff, professional management, world-class training facilities and access to elite-level competition — along with proven academic and career guidance.

In 2014-15, Penguins Elite boys’ teams will range from Squirt Minor through Midget Major, including a U15 team. Girls teams will be offered at 19&U, 16&U, 14&U, 12&U and 10&U age groups. The funding provided by DICK’S Sporting Goods and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation has reduced player participation fees by nearly 35% annually. In addition, DICK’S Sporting Goods provides FREE game jerseys and socks, practice jerseys and socks, pant shells, warmups and equipment bags to players each season. Players and parents also receive discounts on equipment and team-branded apparel purchased through DICK’S Sporting Goods. The NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins provide unique opportunities for PPE players, including practicing at CONSOL Energy Center, participating in the Icebreaker and NHL Youth Cup Tournaments and having the opportunity to attend select games and special events. Many are programs affiliated with NHL teams, including the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets, Dallas Junior Stars, the Phoenix Junior Coyotes and the Los Angeles Junior Kings, among others. With significant visibility, top-level talent, and elite coaching, the Tier 1 Elite League provides young, talented players with the opportunity to advance their careers to Tier 1 Jr. Hockey, U.S. National Teams, NCAA hockey, the NHL and other professional leagues. Forward • 1st Round, 22nd Overall Kapanen, the son of former NHL player Sami Kapanen, was the No. 1-ranked European prospect entering the 2014 NHL Draft by Central Registry. During the 2013-14 season, he played professionally for KalPa of the Finnish Elite League where he and Sami were teammates. Beyond the Numbers: Both Kasperi and his father were selected in the NHL Draft by current Penguins GM Jim Rutherford. Sami Kapanen was chosen in the fourth round (87th overall) in the 1995 Draft.

Forward • 4th Round, 113th Overall A native of Hollidaysburg, Pa., which is located just outside of Altoona, Lafferty played amateur hockey for the Altoona Trackers of the Pittsburgh Amateur Hockey League (PAHL). A graduate of Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, Lafferty is currently playing college hockey at Brown University. He plans to attend college at Cornell University. Beyond the Numbers: It should come as no surprise that Angello will be attending an Ivy League school because last season he was the co-recipient of the USHL Scholar Athlete Award.

Forward • 6th Round, 173rd Overall As a rookie with the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack in 2012-13, Lindo was named his team’s rookie of the year. Before he suffered a season-ending knee injury last February, he was rated the 96th-best North American prospect by Central Registry. Beyond the Numbers: When Lindo skated for the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget AAA team in 2011-12, he was teammates with current Erie Otters forward Connor McDavid, who many project to be the top pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.

Defenseman • 7th Round, 203rd Overall Helped the Union College Dutch of the ECAC capture the 2014 NCAA Frozen Four National Championship, notching an assist in the semifinal game of the Frozen Four. Taylor led all Union rookie blueliners in scoring with 16 points. Beyond the Numbers: Last season Jeff was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team as an 18-year-old true freshman.

POWER PLAY The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and Highmark KIDS WILL CHANGE THE FUTURE completed four more dek hockey rinks for local communities in 2014 as their first-of-its-kind Project Power Play program entered its third year. The new rinks are located in Graham Park in Cranberry Township, Settlerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Cabin in Robinson, Renzie Park in McKeesport and North Park in McCandless. Project Power Play is a $2.3 million initiative designed to build 12 dek hockey rinks in Pittsburgh and surrounding communities over a four-year period. Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is leading the way by providing $1.5 million in funding, with the Penguins Foundation contributing $800,000. The rinks are multi-purpose courts measuring 155 feet by 75 feet. They include a premier dasher board system, scoreboard, player benches covered by metal shelters, a penalty box, goals and start-up dek hockey equipment. Project Power Play was introduced in 2012, with the first two rinks being built in Banksville Park and Lewis Park in Hazelwood. Four more rinks were added in 2013 at Brookline Memorial Park, Hosanna House Sherwood Event Center in Wilkinsburg, Riverside Park in Oakmont and Richland Community Park. The City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and surrounding communities are providing the land as well as maintenance services, lighting and additional support. Two more rinks will be built in 2015, bringing the total to 12.

Rookie defenseman Derrick Pouliot has no doubt about the parameters of his NHL comfort zone: “Anything with the puck,” he said. Pouliot, 21, certainly passes the eye test in that regard. The odd error aside, Pouliot makes mostly good decisions when in possession. His skill is evident. Once his defensive acumen catches up, the Penguins will have a phenom on their hands. And if Pouliot realizes his potential a bit early, he could have positive influence this season akin to that provided by Olli Maatta in 2013-14. The Saskatchewan native came to the Penguins as the No. 8 pick overall in the 2012 NHL draft. Pouliot is in his first pro season. He had a goal and two assists in his first nine games with the Penguins. He had seven goals and 16 assists in his first 23 games with the Penguins’ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton farm club. Pouliot made immediate impact in his NHL debut: He scored on his first NHL shot this past Dec. 20 as the Penguins beat Florida, 3-1, at CONSOL Energy Center. It got harder, though. Pouliot was summoned from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to rejoin a slumping Penguins team for a Feb. 1 home game vs. Nashville. An error by Pouliot led to a Predators goal, and the Penguins lost, 4-0. “I’m getting more confident,” Pouliot said after that game. “There have been a couple of games where I felt like I wasn’t playing my best. There was one play tonight where I made a little soft pass in our zone. But it’s been fairly good. continued on page 162

“I’m trying to improve every day. Each game, you get a little more confident. It will take a little bit of time.” Pouliot expanded on his ease with the puck: “It’s still growing. I’m still working on it. But that’s always been a pretty comfortable thing in my game.” Pouliot played Major Jr. A for the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks. His coach was Mike Johnston, currently the Penguins’ bench boss. That’s making Pouliot’s NHL transition a bit less difficult. “Yeah, for sure,” Pouliot said. “Especially with the systems and all that. It’s very similar [to Portland]. A couple of different things, but very similar. They want us up in the play, to join the rush and create that extra layer of offense.” The NHL is the best hockey league in the world. That’s the biggest challenge for any young player, and Pouliot is no exception. “I’m just a little bit intimidated, maybe still,” the 6-foot, 208-pound Pouliot admitted. “The defensive stuff is coming. It’s getting a little bit better, my consistency in the defensive zone. Some shifts are good. Some aren’t so good. I’m working on that consistency.” Pouliot has been a power-play specialist at every level of hockey he’s played. He’s getting some limited man-advantage time with the Penguins. “It feels pretty good [on the power play],” Pouliot said. “But it’s tough when you haven’t played with these guys. You don’t really have that chemistry. You’ve got to try to do what you can with the time you’ve got.” The Penguins have plenty of veteran defensemen. Pouliot says he tries to learn from all of them: “You can take little bits from every one of these guys, the defensive stuff or the offensive stuff. They’re all very good, and they’re all very helpful.” Johnston has faith in Pouliot since Pouliot played three full seasons at Portland under him. “Derrick’s looking good right now,” Johnston said after the Penguins loss to Nashville. “When he jumped up ice and carried the puck, you knew something positive was going to happen, and also when he’s on the offensive blue line.” Mark Madden hosts a radio show 3-6 p.m. weekdays on WXDX-FM (105.9).

Marc-Andre Fleury only has one goal in every game that he plays. “Being a goalie, you always want to make every save,” he said. Fleury has done just that — made every save in a game — with regularity this season. In fact, he’s done it at a record-breaking pace. Fleury recorded his NHL-best eighth shutout of the year with a 21-save blanking of the Calgary Flames on Feb. 6 at the Scotiabank Saddledome, a 4-0 victory. His eight shutouts set a franchise mark for shutouts in a single season, topping Tom Barrasso’s seven in 1997-98. “It’s not something I thought about going into the game,” Fleury said. “It’s nice. Tom Barrasso is somebody that I look up to, so to be able to reach him is nice.” “It should mean a lot,” captain Sidney Crosby said. “There are some really good teams with some of the goalies that have played in Pittsburgh and how difficult it is. It’s not easy. He’s played for a long time. I’m definitely happy for him.” Fleury, 30, is entering the prime of his career and his play this season has shown that. “I’m not a goalie coach, but he’s playing unbelievable,” defenseman Kris Letang said.

Fleury has arguably been the team’s MVP, keeping the Penguins atop the Metropolitan Division standings through another wave of injuries and illnesses. He’s been beyond just a steady presence in the crease — he’s been a catalyst to the team’s success. “He’s a big part of our team all year long,” Letang said. “You could see him coming into the season that he’s more calm, more under control. He’s playing really well.” The results are clear on the ice. But the stats can back up the eyes. Fleury, the Penguins’ No. 1-overall selection in the 2003 NHL Draft, will likely go down as the greatest goaltender in franchise history. Fleury led the team to a Stanley Cup championship in 2009 and back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances. He’s the organization’s all-time leader in career games played, wins and shutouts (573, 313 and 36 respectively, as of Feb. 10). His 42 wins in 2011-12 were just one shy of Barrasso’s team mark of 43 in 1992-93. But one stat at which Fleury hadn’t really prospered was the shutout category. He’s often joked in the past that he’s the NHL’s all-time leader in one-goal wins, as in surrendering just one goal in a victory. That’s one goal shy of a shutout. But this season Fleury, who signed a four-year contract extension through the 2018-19 campaign, is the NHL’s leader in shutouts. “It’s nice when it happens,” Fleury said. “It shows how well our team is playing in front of me, helping me out and that’s why I’ve been successful.” Fleury’s shutout against the Flames came just 48 hours continued on page 177

after he posted a 22-save shutout against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place in a 2-0 win. It was the second time this season that Fleury has posted back-to-back goose eggs, having done so Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 against the Los Angeles Kings (36 saves) and Buffalo Sabres (18). “That’s really incredible for this time of the season to have eight shutouts,” head coach Mike Johnston said. “Marc came into this [western Canada] swing with back-to-back shutouts. He’s done this twice this year.” It was easy to see how badly Fleury wanted the record in the third period against Calgary. Despite the Penguins leading 4-0, Fleury was making acrobatic save after acrobatic save. His most impressive stop came when he threw his body on the ice and reached back with his glove to stop Jiri Hudler, who had what appeared momentarily as a wide-open net. “Marc-Andre had a great night again,” assistant coach Gary Agnew said. “Some of the saves he made, especially in the third period, were outstanding. His athleticism was great. I thought he was in control of the game.” As if the Penguins’ hadn’t tested fate enough in the final period, David Perron was called for hooking with 2:13 left in the game, forcing the Penguins to kill a penalty to preserve the shutout. The Flames pressed hard and Fleury sweated it out until the final buzzer. “We played good on PK all game,” Fleury said. “I knew we could kill it off and the guys did a great job blocking shots and getting clears. It worked out all right. “There were a few close calls, but it made it feel even better at the end.” Fleury sat in his locker stall following game with the game puck at his side. Across the room sat Crosby, who marveled at Fleury’s accomplishment. “[Fleury] earned every bit of it tonight,” Crosby said. “He made some huge saves for us, like we’ve seen time and time again.” Fleury didn’t just make huge saves. He made every save.

Volunteer coach Chris DeLuca doesn’t have any children or relatives on the Arctic Foxes Midget Minor team. The former high school and college hockey player got involved simply because he loves the game. “He’s just the best coach ever,” winger Wyatt Hubler said. “He knows so much about the game. He’s played it, he’s been there, he’s coached it and overall, is just a great guy. He’d do anything to help you.” Now, the team is doing everything they can to help him. After their first loss of the season back on Nov. 5, DeLuca shared some devastating news with his players and fellow coaches. He told the team that his two-year-old daughter Madelina had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. “When Chris addressed the team to tell us, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room,” head coach Beau Jones said. “He was emotional, I was emotional, the rest of the guys were emotional.” Madelina would have to endure four one-month stays at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The coaches, players and parents immediately began thinking of ways they could ease the financial burden on the DeLuca family and help them get through this scary time. continued on page 183

They want all of those in attendance to be wearing the color. “We want all the fans and everybody there to wear orange,” Jones said. “We’ll have t-shirts for sale there if you don’t have an orange shirt. And we want to have the entire stands dressed in orange to support Madelina.”

TIGHTENING UP: The Bruins allowed 20 non-shootout goals in a 13-game span from Jan. 4 through Feb. 7. Boston’s goals-against average was 1.52 and its save percentage was .951 and the Bruins went 9-2-2 over that stretch.

STRONG FINISHERS: The Sabres resumed play with an all-time record of 547-407-186 (.561) in games after an All-Star break, including a mark of 96-54-24 (.621) since 2005-06 in games after an All-Star break. The trend didn’t carry in the early going this season, as Buffalo lost four of its first six games (2-4-0) following the 2015 NHL All-Star Game.

DIVISION DOMINANCE: The Islanders emerged as a contender in the Metropolitan Division this season in part by winning 17 of their first 19 division games (17-2-0).

BALANCED ON BROADWAY: The Rangers emerged after 50 games as one of only five NHL

IMPRESSIVE RESUME: Tampa Bay compiled the fourth-highest point total in the NHL (71) through 54 games. The Lightning did so in part by scoring an NHL-best 172 goals, by winning a leaguehigh 30 games in regulation or overtime, and by achieving a plus-32 goal differential (first in the Eastern Conference and fourth in the NHL).

ONE IS ENOUGH: Anaheim’s NHL-best 34-12-7 record through 53 games (75 points) included an NHL-best 23 wins in one-goal games (23-0-7). The Ducks were the last team in the league not to have come up on the short end of a one-goal decision in regulation. The Ducks were also 25-1-6 when scoring first and were one of three NHL clubs with just one regulation loss in games in which they had scored the first goal.

OF HER HEART By: Colleen Shirey

As a school teacher and salsa instructor, Colleen Shirey is very active. Although she had been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse, a condition where a Colleen Shirey and leaking valve causes blood to flow her husband Jeff backward into the heart, Colleen didn’t let it stop her from enjoying her favorite activities. After feeling dizzy and fainting while preparing for a charity dance competition, Colleen asked her doctor for answers. Several tests later, she learned that she was anemic and had developed an infection from a dental problem that spread throughout her body and settled on her mitral valve. There was enough leakage that her doctor recommended she see a mitral valve specialist, and Colleen was referred to Vinay Badhwar, MD, at the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute. Dr. Badhwar recommended minimally invasive robotic surgery to repair her valve. “When I first found out I needed to have surgery, I was scared,” Colleen says. “But after meeting with the doctors, I knew I was in good hands; I felt so fortunate to be in Pittsburgh.” Colleen underwent successful robotic mitral valve repair with Dr. Badhwar and his team at UPMC Presbyterian. She recovered quickly, and was back on the dance floor just five weeks later. Since her surgery, Colleen is more appreciative of the little things in life. “This whole experience has made me more appreciative of good health, how important it is, and how easily it can slip out of your hands,” she says. Colleen urges others to listen to their bodies and see a doctor right away if something feels wrong. Today, Colleen is back on the dance floor with her husband Jeff, dancing and teaching salsa to people of all ages and experience levels. GAME MISCONDUCT PENALTIES A new Game Misconduct category will be created. Clipping, charging, elbowing, interference, kneeing, head-butting and butt-ending move from the general category into the same category as boarding and checking from behind (Physical Fouls), whereby a player who incurs two such game misconducts in this category would now be automatically suspended for one game.

PENALTY SHOT The Spin-O-Rama move, as described in Section 24.2 of the 2013-14 NHL Rule Book, will no longer be permitted either in Penalty Shot situations or in the Shootout.

VIDEO GOAL JUDGE Video review will be expanded in the following areas: * Rule 38.4 (viii) has been modified to allow broader discretion to Hockey Operations to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g., to ensure they are good hockey goals). The revised Rule will allow Hockey Operations to correct a broader array of situations where video review clearly establishes that a goal or no goal call on the ice has been made in error. The new expanded rule will also allow Hockey Operations to provide guidance to referees on goal and potential goal plays where the continued on page 198

RULE 57 TRIPPING

The rule relating to Tripping will be revised to specifically provide that a two minute minor penalty will be assessed when a defending player dives and trips an attacking player with his body/arm/shoulder, regardless of whether the defending player is able to make initial contact with the puck. But, in situations where a penalty shot might otherwise be appropriate, if the defending player dives and touches the puck first (before the trip), no penalty shot will be awarded. (In such cases, the resulting penalty will be limited to a two-minute minor penalty for tripping.)

RULE 76 FACE-OFFS

To curb delay tactics on face-offs after icing infractions, in situations where the defending team is guilty of a face-off violation, following an icing, the defending player who is initially lined up for the face-off will be given a warning, but will be required to remain in the circle to take the face-off. A second face-off violation by the defending team in such situation will result in a two minute minor bench penalty.

RULE 64

DIVING / EMBELLISHMENT The supplementary discipline penalties associated with Rule 64.3 (Diving/Embellishment) will be revised to bring attention to and more seriously penalize players (and teams) who repeatedly dive and embellish in an attempt to draw penalties. * Teams will switch ends prior to the start of overtime in the regular season. * The entire ice surface will undergo a dry scrape prior to the start of overtime in the regular season. * The procedure requiring the head coach to submit a list of the first three shooters in the shoot-out has been eliminated.

PUCK OUT OF BOUNDS There have been further rule changes made relating to face-off location to avoid penalizing teams for plays intended to create bona fide scoring opportunities. Specifically, the following are categories of plays where face-offs will remain in the attacking zone despite the fact that the attacking team was technically responsible for the stoppage in play: Shots at the net by a player on the attacking team where: (i) the shot breaks the glass; (ii) the shot goes off the side of the net and deflects out of play; (iii) the shot goes off the dasher boards or glass and deflects out of play; (iv) the shot is tipped or deflected out of play by a teammate; and (v) the shot becomes wedged in or on the exterior of the goal net. In addition, the following rule change will be enacted for the 2014 preseason and may be continued for the 2014-15 regular season if approved by the League and the NHLPA.

LOST AND FOUND If an item is lost or found during an event please see the Guest Services office located outside section 104. Guests inquiring about lost items after an event should call 412.804.7903. Items lost at events are held in storage for thirty (30) days and then either disposed of or donated to an appropriate charity.

RE-ENTRY POLICY Exit and re-entry is not permitted at CONSOL Energy Center.

SECURITY In the interest of guests and staff safety, a search process is required for all events in order to prevent guests from bringing unauthorized and prohibited items into the arena.

WHEELCHAIRS A limited number of wheelchairs are available for transporting guests that are disabled to their seating location. Guests can be transported from the gates to their seats. If a wheelchair is needed for the duration of the event, guests must supply their own wheelchairs. Wheelchairs cannot be reserved in advance. Upon arrival, guests can arrange for a wheelchair at any entrance of CONSOL Energy Center. Please see a CONSOL Energy Center employee to assist with wheelchair transportation.
