APRIL 2014 After a Long Winter This world is a dead man down……Every breath is a fading crown……. we wear like some debilitated king. The Earth spins and the moon goes round …….The green comes from the frozen ground……..And everything will be made new again………..Like freedom in the spring. Those lines are from a song called, “You are Golden Child” by the recording group, Switchfoot. You do not have to remember that, but I think there is a nice message for us in those lyrics- especially as we approach springtime and the celebration of Easter after a long winter! Think about it! This world has a lot to offer- physical pleasure, money, leisure time, popularity, stuff and more stuff etc. - and it is tempting to spend our lives chasing after those things. We see many folks everyday who are committed to attaining the things of this world. The truth though is that, in the end, all those things are empty and meaningless. This world is a dead man down- the god of this world (Satan) has been defeated and has nothing to offer except the chance to join him in defeat. The world offers a crown but it is a fading crown. The one who chooses to wear this crown is like a debilitated king -- perhaps they look good on the outside but the reality is they are already on the way out. The good news though is that there is another choice we can make! As the earth spins and the seasons pass, even a winter like this past one comes to an end. Spring arrives and brings new life with it. New life that sets us free from the dead end of the fading crown that the world worships. New life in Jesus, our Savior who rose again- the Victor over sin and death! It is very appropriate that we celebrate Easter each year in the spring. The Giver of New Life is honored in the season of new life. I am excited about what we have planned here at New Holland UMC for this Easter season. On April 17 at 7 PM, we will be having a Maundy Service that will include communion along with details of The Last Supper and arrest of Jesus. Our Easter celebration on April 20 will include a musical cantata by the choir and a meditation about the best news report ever given. We hope you are able to attend these services! May each of us continually place our lives in the hands of the one who washes us clean and gives us new life……like freedom in the Spring.

Layman’s Ten Commandments Shared by Jane Keene

Someone has written these beautiful words. It’s a must read. Try to understand the deep meaning of it. They are like the Ten Commandments to follow in life all of the time! 1. Prayer is not a “spare wheel” that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a “steering wheel” that directs the right path throughout the journey. 2. So why is a car’s WINDSHIELD so large and the REAR VIEW MIRROR so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, look ahead and move on!

3. Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes a few minutes to burn, but it takes years to write. 4. All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it; they will not last forever. If going wrong, don’t worry; they can’t last long either.

5. Old friends are Gold! New friends are Diamond! If you get a Diamond, don’t forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a base of Gold! 6. Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, “Relax, sweetheart, it’s just a bend, not the end! 7. When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn’t solve your problems, HE has faith in your abilities.

8. A blind person asked St. Anthony: “Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?” He replied: “Yes, losing your vision!” 9. When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them; and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that someone has prayed for you. 10. WORRYING does not take away tomorrow’s TROUBLES; it takes away today’s PEACE. Hope your day was brightened. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God. God loves you; He always has and always will. Your attitude will determine your altitude!
