APRIL 2017 SEASONS
I think we are fortunate to live in an area where we experience all four seasons of the year. It would be interesting to find out everyone’s favorite season. I imagine we all like different things about each season though we probably do have a favorite. Of course, we are entering the season of Spring (though the weather and temperature may feel more like summer one day and then winter the next). Spring is the season of new life….leaves and grass, colorful flowers, baby birds and animals all make an appearance (not to mention the strawberries and the beginnings of other wonderful produce)! Easter and new life! It is appropriate that this is also the time of year that we celebrate Easter. New life is the culmination of that celebration, although the passion and sacrifice of our Lord on our behalf are also reasons to rejoice and celebrate (though the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services may rightly seem sad at times). Revelation 21:4-5 says of Jesus as we see Him in heaven, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 says simply, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” Much like the beauty of Spring, God takes our sinful, broken lives and makes them into something new and beautiful when we place them in His hands. The singing group, Switchfoot, has this to say in a song called Golden, as they encourage us to allow God to change is into something new: The Earth spins and the moon goes round The green comes from the frozen ground And everything will be made new again Like freedom in spring.
May we all be made new again…see the new creation and be the new creation this Spring! -- Pastor Ray

MAUNDY THURSDAY
FARM SHOW MEALS
Our combined Maundy Thursday service will be held this year at Honey Brook UMC on April 13 at 7 PM. The service will include a dramatic reading of Jesus's Journey to the Cross. There are opportunities for up to 30 people to participate by reading one of the passages. Please contact Pastor Ray or the church office if you are willing to do this. Thank you.
We have been informed that the folks from Ranck’s UMC will not be participating with us in the Chicken Pot Pie/ Pork and Sauerkraut dinners fundraiser. This has been both a profitable fundraiser and also a good opportunity to meet with the people in our town. While we are sorry to hear that Ranck’s will no longer be involved, we are hoping to be able to continue the meals on our own. This means that we will need additional help both preparing the food and serving the meals. Our goal is to have a group of individuals who begin preparing as soon as it is feasible and also coordinates those who will be helping during the event. Please contact the
GOOD FRIDAY Everyone is encouraged to attend the Community Good Friday Service sponsored by the Elanco MInisterium. The service will be held at the Garden Spot Village Chapel on 2
church office or Heather Bressi if you are willing to be a part of this work team! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During the worship service each Sunday when those smiling faces reach out to you to receive your “noisy” donation, please give generously. Blessings, Finance Committee
Many thanks for your continued support of our Noisy Offering. At this time, we don’t have the final tally for the first quarter of 2017 but will let you know the amount once it is counted the last week of March. The funds received the first quarter of 2017 will benefit our kitchen. Some of our kitchen equipment, such as the electric roasters, is in need of replacement. Replenishing the supplies needed in the kitchen is always an ongoing expense. For next quarter the Finance Committee decided another great idea that would benefit from the Noisy Offering would be our annual VBS program which is held each summer at our church. The theme this year for VBS is “Maker Fun Factory” by Group Publishing. “Imagine a world where curious kids become hands-on inventors who discover they’re loving crafted by God.” About 25 to 30 children from the community attend VBS each year. 3
