MAY 2015 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT). Many people within the church consider these two verses from Paul’s letter to the Galatian church, usually referred to as “the fruit of the Spirit,” to be among their favorites, and with good reason. Through these words God gives us a wonderful explanation of what it means to be filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit. In our messages that focused on grace, we talked about justifying and sanctifying grace. Remember that justifying (or saving) grace is the fancy term that basically means salvation. Accepting the gift that God offers each of us so that our sins are forgiven and our relationship with Him is healed. Unfortunately many Christians stop right there. We are called to continue on to sanctifying (or perfecting) grace- the grace of God that moves us on to holy living. While this is a long process that will probably not be completed in this lifetime, it is God’s intention that, through the Spirit living within us, we continue to become more like Him. And that brings us back those verses in Galatians and the Fruit of the Spirit. We will be talking about the Fruit and work and gifts of the Spirit throughout the rest of the spring and summer months (maybe not every Sunday but that will be the general theme). It would be a wonderful thing if New Holland UMC would be known as a place where people display things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, 1

2 faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This is possible as we grow in God’s sanctifying grace and give control of ourselves over the Spirit. I pray that each of us experiences this growth in our walk with the Lord. May 7 ……. Lancaster Co. National Day of Prayer May 10 …… Mother’s Day Mini-Tea

two. At this point, it looks like the cost will be approximately two to three thousand dollars. CHURCH CALENDAR: We are planning to do a church calendar for 2016. While this will serve as a fundraiser it will also give us a be a nice way simply to spread some news about the exciting things that take place at the church and be reminded of birthdays and other special events within our church family. As you keep this in mind, we hope you can help. We will need some nice pictures (at least 12) of the church and the various events that take place here. If you have the opportunity, please take a picture of the church looking nice and send it to Pastor Ray who will save until the end of the year when we can pick out the ones we like best! Thank you. GOLD MEDAL CERTIFICATE: We are happy to report that New Holland UMC received a “Gold Medal Certificate” at our recent Southwest District conference for paying 100% of our Connectional Ministries in 2014. We have not met this goal in many years. Thank you all for your generous giving. Please remember the church as we strive to pay all the bills and meet this goal once again in 2015.
