LETTER FROM THE Principal LETTER FROM THE Deputy Principal
Dear Class of 2024,
I want to first congratulate you on a job well done! You made it! As I reflect on the last four years we spent together, I know there were times that were not as you would have expected. You began your high school career in the middle of the pandemic and your transition to GlenOak was different than any other class that preceded you. You started your high school years wearing masks, having split schedules, doing lessons through Google Hangouts, and having restrictions on your activities. Yet, you persevered.
Getting life back to normal was a slow process and like all things in life, it was a series of ebbs and flows. You demonstrated unprecedented resilience as you navigated our world taking two steps forward and then one step back. I saw you experience frustration, setbacks, and unexpected challenges. I also saw you support each other in the face of hardship and come together to be part of something bigger than yourself.
I am so proud of this class and the accomplishments you have achieved even in the face of a world in turmoil. I see a balance and a maturity in you that will help in any stage of your life, and I have no doubts about your future success. Your journey will not be easy but you have the skills to excel. You are creative problem-solvers who have grit and work hard for what you want. My parting wish is that you will take these experiences at GlenOak High School and use them to soar to even greater heights.
Remember that you will always be an Eagle!
Congratulations, Class of 2024!
I am so very proud of you and wish you all the best.
Gayle Kimbrough Principal GlenOak High School
Dear Class of 2024,
You made it. High school graduation is the first major milestone in your life, and a whole new journey is about to begin. You are now officially a GlenOak Graduate, and I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you on your hard work and dedication.
Over the past years, you have encountered many demands and obstacles, but through it all you have persevered and succeeded. During your unprecedented high school journey, the Class of 2024 has repeatedly shown strength, resilience, and determination to overcome any obstacle that came your way. Throughout the halls of GlenOak you have made lifelong memories, friendships, and earned an education and skills that will stay with you forever.
As you look towards the future, I encourage you to continue to work hard, pursue your dreams, and follow your passions. No matter where your path takes you—college, trade school, military, or entering the workforce—always remember that you have the potential to achieve anything you set your mind to.
Keep in mind that you are now lifelong members of our beloved Eagle Nation. We will always be here to support you and cheer you on. Come back and let us know about your accomplishments, adventures, and successes. It truly has been my pleasure serving you as your Deputy Principal. Congratulations, and best wishes for a bright and successful future. Keep Soaring!
Sincerely,
Brett Niarchos Deputy Principal GlenOak High School
SENIORS
Our theme for the 2023-2024 school year was “Watch Me Soar.” The theme aims to inspire a sense of determination and perseverance, urging everyone to overcome challenges, spread their wings, and soar to new heights. In each issue of Eagle Nation Magazine we will spotlight students who are the embodiment of this theme.
We asked the following Soaring Seniors from the Class of 2024 what their plans were.
BRANDON WINES
Plans after high school: “I plan to attend Kent State Stark. I want to major in marketing/ entrepreneurship and get a minor in psychology. While I do not have any offers for wrestling, I still plan to engage in some sort of sport either with or without the college. I’ve thought of track, wrestling, and MMA as different activities I might try to get involved in.”
How did your time at GlenOak help you SOAR for your future? “My time at GlenOak has helped me prepare for my life in the future in and out of the classroom. The teachers and staff are all great and a lot of the time I found myself motivated because of the positivity that they spread. Not only is the education good at GlenOak but the sports have helped me greatly as well. I was lucky enough to be a part of the wrestling team for 4 years throughout high school and the lessons I’ve learned have impacted me a lot going into life as a young man. GlenOak is hands down an all around great school and I’m proud to say that I was a student athlete for the GlenOak Golden Eagles!”
ZI’KEYIOUS FRIEDMAN
Plans after high school: “Immediately after high school I plan to work in the construction trade this summer and preferably doing plumbing side jobs. Once I turn 18 my plan is to gain employment on the Canton City Road Department.”
How did your time at GlenOak help you SOAR for your future? “The availability to take the Construction Trades class and different experiences throughout the time getting me out of my comfort zone. I was really quiet and now I’m not afraid to work around others and I am more open to people. The wonderful staff has helped me tremendously.”
BOSTON UPSHAW
Plans after high school: “I plan to go to school for music production and sound engineering.”
How did your time at GlenOak help you SOAR for your future? “My time at GlenOak mainly resided within the arts department of GlenOak High School. Through the arts (mainly vocal music), I was able to achieve things that I never thought possible, prior to my experiences. I entered this institution as someone lacking basic life skills. With full humility, I say that my amazing peers, family, and the very involved staff have taught me how to express myself completely. I have achieved accolades due to the support of those around me. Choir is what opened my eyes to what I love doing. I was able to collaborate in far more ways than one, creating relationships, amazing music, and thrilling opportunities. This school is filled with caring and loving staff who encourage the best out of their students. GlenOak had blessed me with unwavering support and variety.”
MAKENNA BOORD
Plans after high school: “I plan to attend Stark State College to receive an associate’s degree in forensic accounting while also maintaining my position at Hollister Co. as a sales associate.”
How did your time at GlenOak help you SOAR for your future? “When I was a freshman at GlenOak, COVID was just at its peak, I started to realize what environment I worked best in. After in-person class attendance became regular again, I dove deep into my studies to see what my true passion was. Somewhere along the way, I ended up in Mrs. de Fay’s classroom and never left. She along with many others including Mr. Nieporte, Mrs. Slatzer, and my own family, led me to discover my love for numbers and solutions. My last year at GlenOak High School was everything I could’ve asked for and more, I made lifelong friends, found a lucrative career to pursue, and overall improved myself as a person!”
PAYTON FINLEY
Plans after high school: “I plan on attending to Stark State for fine arts while working in the cosmetology field. And after acquiring my associates I will then transfer to Columbia College Chicago to finish out my education!”
How did your time at GlenOak help you SOAR for your future? “GlenOak gave me a well-rounded education that helped direct me toward my career goals!”
NATALIE BISESI
Plans after high school: “I plan on going to trade school and begin to work after I graduate.”
How did your time at GlenOak help you SOAR for your future? “I am extremely thankful for the time I’ve spent at GlenOak and the memories I have made. My teachers at GlenOak have helped me grow as a student over the past years and I appreciate their tremendous effort to help me succeed in my future. My track coaches have also helped me grow as an athlete as well as a person. I appreciate their time and dedication they’ve put in to help me reach and accomplish my goals. They’ve made sure I am performing my best to help me beat my own personal records and lead me to the state championship.”

2024 SENIOR Walk
‘Watch Me Soar’ is not just a theme at GlenOak High School; it embodies a celebration of achievement and a look forward to the future. One of our most cherished traditions, the ‘Senior Walk,’ captures this spirit perfectly. On May 16, 2024, our graduating seniors, dressed in their caps and gowns, embarked on a nostalgic journey back through their elementary, intermediate, and middle schools. They were warmly greeted by former teachers and younger students—our ‘Little Eagles’—who see them as role models of our school’s ideals.
At each elementary school, the seniors paused for a photo, creating a lasting memory of where their academic journeys began. The halls buzzed with excitement, filled with cheers, colorful signs, and expressions of pride, uplifting our seniors and truly making them feel as if they are soaring high. This tradition not only celebrates their past achievements but also the bright futures they are destined to achieve.
