Planning Decision MODERNIST BUILDING IN XEWKIJA GIVEN PROTECTION STATUS The Planning Authority has recently given protection status to the Administration Building of the former milk factory in Xewkija, Gozo– as a scheduled Grade 2 building, including a buffer zone. The 1950s modernist building, designed by the renowned Maltese Architect Joseph Huntingford 1926-1994), is located in Triq l-Imgarr and Triq il-Pitkali in Xewkija, Gozo. The building itself is made of exceptional architectural elements, all mirroring the Modernist Movement. Read More

IRRESTAWRA DAREK GRANT SCHEME WRAPPED UP AFTER OVERWHELMING RESPONSE he Planning Authority’s Irrestawra Darek Grant Scheme which was launched at the end of last year to assist in the regeneration of Malta’s Urban Conservation Areas has been wrapped up earlier than expected after an overwhelming response. Over these past two and a half months, the Authority received over 800 requests, exhausting the entire €8 million it pledged towards this scheme. Read More

APPROVED WORKS TO ENRICH VIEWING EXPERIENCE FROM MEDITERRANEAN CONFERENCE CENTRE
The Planning Board approved planning permission for works to be carried out in different areas around the Mediterranean Conference Centre (MCC) in Valletta. The restoration and structural works which will be carried out in phases will include the installation of two panoramic lifts, which at one go, can provide 32 persons with direct access to the roof top of both the Sacra I nfermeria and Sir Temi Zammit halls. An interview with Mr Mario Azzopardi, Land Survey Unit Manager, who has been working for the past twenty-two years within the Planning Authority. His main role is the management of the Land Survey Unit which is made up of two sections namely; Topographic Survey Section and the Setting out – Civil Engineering section apart from another team that handles the survey activities in Gozo.
