New 5-Axis 5X series Sepro Developed in Partnership with Stäubli A new lines of 5 axis CNC multi-axis robots – the 5X– specifically designed for injection molding applications, will bee highlighted at K 2103. Developed by Sepro Robotique in partnership Stäubli Robotics, these robots give injection molders two new choices for performing complex part manipulation inside and outside of the mold space. Both lines are driven by the same Visual control and are being demonstrated on the Sepro stand Hall12, 12A49, at K2013 (16th-23rd of October 2013). “For years, injection molders with complex automation requirements have had to make a difficult choice,” explains Jean-Michel Renaudeau, Managing Director, Sepro Robotique, La Roche sur Yon, France. “They could choose Cartesian beam robots that were designed for their applications but usually limited to 3 primary CNC axes of motion, or they could select a 6-axis polyarticulated robot designed for general industrial applications. The 5X Visual lines deliver new 5-axis solutions created with the needs of injection molders in mind.” Sepro and Stäubli have been cooperating successfully since 2006, with Sepro integrating the Stäubli multi-axis robots when those capabilities were required. Now they have taken that relationship a step further. For many years Sepro have offered 5 axis solutions but the co-operation with Sepro much more compact, faster and has almost halved the cost of the extra wrist motions being servo driven versus pneumatic. So having the benefits of this complex control is now within your reach. THE 5X LINE Designed for universal and complex applications, the 5-axis 5X Line is based on Sepro 3-axis Cartesian beam robots that are designed for high-precision and high-speed performance. A 2-axis Stäubli wrist is added to provide additional compact servo rotations (R1 = 0-180° and R2 = 0-270°) making it easy to adapt to even complex applications like insert placing, complex extraction paths in the mold, path tracking for flame treatment, and the like. The standard Visual 3 control system is the same high-speed control that is used on the 6-axis articulated-arm and other premium robots from Sepro. The 5X robots feature a “monobloc” frame structure and prismatic guide rails to ensure greater rigidity. Powerful servomotors guided by intelligent, anti-vibration software guarantee maximum acceleration and minimum mold intervention time. The Sepro-exclusive Y-Free feature momentarily disengages the drive system on the strip arm so that it can move freely as the part is being ejected. This simplifies programming parts ejection tracking and can reduce costs by allowing the use of simpler gripper designs. The 5X line is available in three models, the 5X-15, the 5X-25 and the 5X-35 for injection-molding machines from 30 to 800 tons. The horizontal stroke can range from a minimum of 1500 mm (59 in.) on the 5X-15 to a maximum of 9000 mm on the 5X-35. Vertical strokes available are 1000 mm, 1200 mm, 1400 mm and 1800 mm (telescopic) while the strip stroke measures 500 mm, 700 mm and 900 mm on the 5X-15, 5X-25 and 5X-35, respectively. Maximum payload on the smallest model is 5 kg , 10 kg on the middle unit and either 15 or 20 kg on the largest. Sepro are conservative on their payloads and you can run at full speed and acceleration on their payloads.

!

All 5X robots use the Visual3 control which has digital vacuum, additional 23 inputs and 24 outputs for automation, the faster background PLC. Sepro have the most advanced controllers on any plastics industry robot on the market and this has been extended in the Visual 3. ABOUT SEPRO

The UNISORT Flake Plug & Sort combines a compact design, flexibility and latest-generation technology in a single unit. Equipped with hangers for Bigbags, the sensor-based unit is an ideal flexible solution for sorting plastic flakes and metals. The enhanced UNISORT Flake is delivered as a complete solution, with appropriate feed and discharge belts. To prepare the machine for operation, a Bigbag containing material to be sorted is hung over the material feed and the material is then fed to the UNISORT Flake Plug & Sort. The machine can be equipped with a high-resolution colour sensor or NIR-S sensor with hyper spectral imaging technology (HSI) for material recognition. The sorted material is discharged into two additional Bigbags. The configuration of the UNISORT Flake Plug & Sort enables quality control of the Bigbags and subsequent cleaning of the sorted material if required. The unit also records, documents and statistically analyses all material data. The UNISORT Flake Plug & Sort as compact sorting system for plastic flakes and metals. This data is then available for use in quality control. The only thing required to prepare the 16 square metre unit for operation is a three-phase power supply.

Blue Air - Mould Dehumidification systems (MSP) MSP Unit Example of MSP Installation on a Blow Moulding machine MSP Installation on Injection Moulders Mould Dehumidification Unit - MSP When the surface temperature of an object sinks below the dew point of the ambient air, condensation forms on the surface of the object. The problem especially occurs on chilled moulds of plastic processing machines. As a result the optimal water temperature used for the cooling process can not be used. To avoid condensation the cooling water temperature has to be increased. This leads to extended cooling times and a follow on reduction in productivity. The answer to this problem is to create a dry climate around the mould. The Mould Sweat Protection (MSP) system fills the enclosed moulding area with dry process air with a dew point of 4°C (39°F). Result - The MSP allows the use of cold water with a constant and optimal process temperature without the trouble of condensation. Blue Air Systems guarantee condensation free protection with a mould cooling temperature as low as 6°C (43°F) throughout the year, in every kind of weather, in every climate. This means higher productivity and constant product quality. The scope of supply is the mould dehumidification system (standard units from 500 to 5,000 m³/ h process air volume) and upon request a tailor made enclosure for the mould area of the production machine. Blue Air Systems use sliding hoods or easily removable panels which provide simple handling int he production process (fasrt mould changes). Mould dehumidification units provide the following advantages: •

Steady product quality and production conditions through constant dew point of ambient air

Higher machine efficiency through shorter cooling time

Suitable for singe production machines or complete production lines

Tailor made enclosures for mold area

CFC - free system

Low maintenance expenses

Low energy consumption

Quick return on investment

We are rapidly approaching the summer months which are promising to be hot and humid. Be prepared for summer by dehumidifying your machines. The added benefits of dehumidiciation is not just dry mould surfaces but no rusting caused by water in the moulds (i.e. sticking ejector pins etc. from rust) you will have a clean production areas because it is enclosed and you are blowing dry filtered air into the enclosure. Set your water temperatures once and leave them alone the entire year! No need to change the temperatures depending on the weather! These machines are very reliable and are the most energy efficient systems in the market! .. MORE

AIP continues to help Foodbank The Australian Institute of Packaging (AIP), in conjunction with the Australian Packaging and Processing Machinery Association (APPMA) and the Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Australia (SCLAA) will be continuing their Foodbank Christmas Hamper project for the fourth consecutive year on the 6th of December.

The three industry associations work together to pack over 600 hampers for Foodbank to distribute to those in need at Christmas; many of whom are without employment, are families with young children, or are homeless. As Ken McMillan, General Manager of Foodbank Queensland says, “The 600 hampers that the AIP, SCLAA and APPMA pack each year are distributed to families in crisis at Christmas time and while none of those who pack the hampers will ever meet the receivers, everyone who participates should be extremely proud of what you do. The packing of the hampers is a culmination of twelve months of work, over $60,000 worth of goods raised to go inside the hampers and generous support from many companies across the country. Each hamper is worth $100 and is made up of food and personal hygiene products. In three years the AIP, in conjunction with the SCLAA and the APPMA, have packed 1800 hampers to the value of over $180,000. If you would like to be a part of this event by helping pack hampers on the 6th of D e c e m b e r, o r w i s h t o d o n a t e i t e m s f o r t h e h a m p e r s , p l e a s e e m a i l nerida@aipack.com.au or phone the AIP on 07 3278 4490. We are smack bang in the middle of a second industrial revolution. 3D printing, or “additive manufacturing” as it is more properly known, is about to transform every single aspect of our lives. Machines today can print objects out of almost any material – from nylon to glass, from chocolate to titanium – and with any complex geometry. This is transforming not just engineering, but many other fields, including education, archaeology, bioprinting, and even food printing. Look online and you will see thousands of objects ready to be printed on demand, from custom-shaped hearing aids to authentic-looking replicas of ancient cuneiform tablets. More importantly, soon anyone will be able to make complex products quickly and cheaply, something that will democratise innovation and unleash human creativity. The next stage of this journey, which we are just beginning to experience, is control over the composition of such printed – going beyond shaping geometry, to shaping the internal structure of materials – with unprecedented fidelity. Forget the traditional limitations imposed by conventional manufacturing, in which each part is made of a single material. Instead, we are talking about specifying microstructure with micrometer-scale precision. We are making materials with materials, and embedding and weaving multiple materials into complex patterns. We can print hard and soft materials in patterns that create bizarre and new structural behaviours, like materials that expand laterally when pulled longitudinally. This flexibility means you will soon be able to print a custom tennis racket that cleverly compensates for your unique weaknesses, or a replacement spinal-disc implant exactly tailored for your bad back. The third and final episode of this journey, of which we have only seen the early signs so far, is the control over behaviour. Here we will go beyond controlling just the shape of matter and its composition. We will then be able to program these materials to function in arbitrary ways – to sense and react, to compute and behave – moving from an object’s mechanical functionality to controlling how it processes information and energy as well. When this day arrives, you will be able to print virtually anything – from a mobile phone to a robot that will walk out of the printer, batteries included. But that robot will not look at all like today’s robots, because it will not be limited by the constraints imposed by conventional manufacturing. The ability to construct systems like this will create a new paradigm of engineering, one that is not unlike biology. If humans distinguished themselves from their evolutionary ancestors by making tools, then additive manufacturing represents the ultimate tool – it will transform human culture in ways we can hardly anticipate. *Hod Lipson is an associate professor at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He has pioneered evolutionary robotics and AI, and has co-authored a report for the US government on 3D printing. Article courtesy of New Scientist

SCRUBBER FREEZE: NO MORE STRIPPING OF DIE HEADS FOR DEGRADED PVC

Scrubber Freeze is a product ahead of its time. Although most PVC bottle makers have changed to other options, there are still companies that continue to strip down their machinery. This can be consigned to history with Scrubber Freeze.

We know that PVC suffers from hydrochlorination, which means that it degrades and gives off hydrochloric acid. This process is autocatalytic – meaning that the hydrochloric acid causes the PVC to degrade further.

Because Scrubber Freeze cleans the die pin and the head (which is normally cleaned during a manual strip-down), as well as the screw, barrel and swan neck, this means that no previously degraded PVC will cause premature degradation of the head and die.

Scrubber Freeze is a highly filled, calcium-zinc stabilized PVC grade of purging compound which cleans by purely mechanical means. Scrubber Freeze is also self-indicating: it is light blue in colour, so if it comes out brown it is bringing out carbon – so keep purging. 75mm PVC Screw with Catastrophic burn – BEFORE

75mm PVC Screw with Catastrophic burn – AFTER 25KG of Scrubber Freeze

The above photos are real and were taken before the purge and then straight after the purge at a company called Hozelock in the UK. This extruder is used to extrude flexible PVC hose. The result is truly amazing! This is HARDCORE purging at its best! No tricks here, this material will clean your PVC extruder and head like no other material. When used before start up as an ongoing maintenance product you will rid yourself of black specs in your products. Aquapurge purging compounds ACTUALLY work!! Learn More – Earn More By Scott Bywater Let me ask you a question... What‘s the difference between you and a doctor? Why can he heal people and you can‘t? He knows something you don‘t. What‘s the difference between you and an accountant? Why can he save people tax and you can‘t? He knows something you don‘t. What‘s the difference between you and a lawyer? Why will people pay him / her $300+per hour to defend them in court. Because he knows something you don‘t. Here‘s the bottom line when it comes to money: the people who are getting the big dollars are the ones who know stuff that others don‘t. The garbage man doesn‘t get the big money because most people can do his job. The GP doesn‘t earn as much as someone who specialises because his knowledge is not as rare. And it‘s the same with being an entrepreneur. The key to making the big dollars is to know something others don‘t. Remember, if you want an edge on your competitors – you need to know more. And just like if you wanted to become a doctor, you need to invest your time, money and energy to getting the knowledge. That‘s right: learn more to earn more. And the good news, once you‘ve learnt it – you‘ve got that knowledge for life. Do you want to learn the easiest way to get more customers fast? Leading advertising copywriter, Scott Bywater, has just completed his brand new guide "7 Ways to Get More Customers" where he outline everything so it's as easy as 1, 2... 3.
