SWIM A LAP DAY

If you reduce how much electricity you use, not only do you save money, you save the planet! Cooking dinner outside on the grill, or making salads and sandwiches reduces not just the amount of electricity you use, but it doesn’t heat up the kitchen, and then the air conditioner doesn’t have to work harder to cool it off. The Texas sun works hard enough to heat us up, we don’t have to help it by heating up the kitchen!

Reuse is the second “R” and a thrift find is a great way to reuse and recycle. Thrift stores help reduce textile waste, safe water and reduce emissions by reducing the demand for new clothing. Not only buying at a thrift store but donating to a thrift store reduces the amount of items that end up in the landfill. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure!

It takes all things STEM for our future generations to find new ways to combat climate change, reduce the amount of waste we produce, and find new ways to recycle. STEM is the answer to many creative problems. Taking plastic water bottles and making clothing… STEM. Capturing methane from the landfill and using it to fuel vehicles…STEM. Encourage those outside the box creative thinkers, they will change the world!
7
Christmas lights, trees, foil wrapping paper, tissue paper, ribbons, and most ornaments cannot be placed in your curbside recycle bin. Try wrapping your gifts in brown packing paper decorating it with paints or markers. All of that can be tossed in the recycle bin making clean-up easy, and the planet happy!
