Thrive Homeschool Program Fall 2017 through Spring 2018 Our mission at Thrive is to inspire a life-long love of learning by respecting each person’s individual interests, strengths, and capabilities. It is a place where children are free to learn, inspire, imagine, create, play, and shine! Thrive is a homeschool program that provides classes as well as open structured, self-directed learning sessions and a nature immersion program at two warm and, inviting spaces. Students spend their days learning and creating while spending time with other children and adults who will inspire and guide them. Classes are led by adults from our community who have an interest or skill they are excited to share and teach. All classes are hands-on and project based and meet a minimum of three state standards. All of our instructors have a background/ fingerprint clearance and have been hand selected to provide your student a quality, caring class experience. New classes every 6 weeks means there is something for everyone. Thrive Self Directed, open structured hours offer students the opportunity to explore their varied interests with the support of caring mentors. Learning invitations are presented in an environment that fosters imagination, self- motivation, and meaningful experiences. Books, websites, magazines, nature, music, math concepts, science projects, art projects, building materials, creative play, and idea sharing will spark the imagination. Advisors work with the children to create an emergent and free flowing curriculum that derives from the imaginations of the children enrolled. State standards are met by reflecting back on work and projects students choose to participate in. Nature Immersion offers an instructor guided experience learning about Bidwell Park and all the wonders it holds at Chico Creek Nature Center. Student will spend time outdoors playing in nature, doing crafts, STEM activities and meeting our Center’s animals. • Thrive programs are held at the PV Recreation Center, 2320 North Ave. and Chico Creek Nature Center 1968 E. 8th Street • Family Information Night on August 7 • Classes and Nature Immersion and Self Directed Learning Sessions start September 5, 2017 • Low child to adult ratios • Ages 4 to 17 (age ranges vary by class) • Offerings for tweens and teens • All classes must reach minimum registration numbers at least one week before class, so invite your friends Students must be enrolled in a homeschool charter or declared a private homeschooler. Thrive provides support and educational opportunities and is not an accredited school. Families are in charge of their child’s overall education. CARD is a vendor for all local homeschool charters and you may register with a PO using your educational funds, participate in the Inspire North/ Thrive Specialty program or pay privately. Supply fees of $40 per student must be paid by families and cannot be included in the PO. Learn more at ThriveChico.org and our Facebook page Thrive Homeschool Program.

Classes for All Ages Preschool Programs

CARD’s preschool programs feature a designated classroom and staff that specialize in toddlers. Each program will promote an all-inclusive, positive, educational environment that will set your child up to succeed. How do register for a Preschool Program? Choose the class that is the appropriate age and level for your child. If there room in the class, you will be able to register immediately online or at the CARD Office at 545 Vallombrosa Ave. If the class is full, you will be placed on a waitlist and will be contacted if a spot opens up. New students can start at the beginning of any month. How long is the session? Our preschool programs are ongoing classes that run September-May. Each month builds on the previous time spent in class for continuous growth and learning. Should you choose to not continue, simply notify the CARD Office (530) 895-4711 or egonzales@chicorec.com) so we can contact the next person on the waitlist. How do payments work? The fee for each class is due the last day of the month prior. If payment is received on or after the 1st of the month, the fee increases by $10. Payments can be made online, in person at the CARD office, or through automatic payments. Where can I find more information? Our Time Together (18-35 months old)

This class is formatted as a parent/child class with the goal of giving parents an opportunity to bond, meet other parents that have children the same age as theirs and provide parent support. Our Time Together can be an exciting and fun opportunity for your child to improve current skills, learn new skills, make friends, and have fun. This is also an opportunity for us to create a parenting community and share development milestones. During the toddler years, your child will make huge strides physically, intellectually, and emotionally, whether it’s learning to use the potty or stacking blocks. Something to observe in this program is how your child plays adjacent to other children in the playgroup. This cooperative social interaction is called parallel play and helps children begin language development, build confidence, and form relationships. Your child will increasingly learn to share and become aware of other’s emotions, as well as learn cause and effect through trial and error of adjusting and solving problems in play. For your convenience, we have a Monday, Wednesday and Monday/Wednesday option based on how many days you would like to attend the program. Class kicks-off Wednesday, September 6; however, new students can start at the beginning of any month.
