TRANSMISSION This piece was inspired initially by Glastonbury festivals 'Trash City' from the broken vehicles and machines. This lead me further to look into motor bike gear boxes, and the cogs that intertwine to power the motion of the bike. I looked into different knit techniques to create shapes and patterns to use to replicate in knit form. The main inspiration for the garment shape was from looking into classic biker gear, which is made to protect and be hard wearing. To add contrast to the soft appearance of the fabric, elbow and shoulder pads were added to create a tougher aesthetic. Racked trims were applied to emulate the cog shapes and create details to a simple black jacket. I chose to specialise in menswear as I feel the garments can be of greater detail but still adopting the classic silhouette. Knitwear is something that I have had a passion for since I was young DQG WR EH IXO¿OOLQJ WKLV DW XQL LV D JUHDW experience and is very enjoyable along with the stresses that knitwear brings.

MYTH OF ORIGINS Taken  from  a  series  of  images  created  for  a  character  design  brief,  I  illustrated  the  pig  and  turkey  from  the  Edward  Lear  poem  -  The  Owl  and  the  Pussycat: Dearest  Owl, A  new  member  to  our  community  has  brought  a  great  evil  amongst  our  island. The  reverend  atop  the  hill  has  revealed  himself  to  be  an  authoritarian  monster,  he  is  holding  us  all  captive  in  our  own  home. Please  help,  we  all  need  you. Your  friend, Piggy. The  written  content  was  very  rich,  giving  me  valid  character  traits  to  start  with  which  I  developed  through  the  use  of  my  own  underlying  narrative. The  pig  characters  inhabited  the  island  which  soon  became  overrun  ZLWK ÂżHUFH W\UDQQLFDO UXOHV DQG behaviour  from  the  reverend  turkey,  for  example  he  enforced  the  pigs  to  wear  heavy  metal  nose  rings  to  prevent  them  swimming  from  the  island  in  an  attempt  to  escape.   The  nose  rings  consequently  affected  the  posture  of  the  pigs  making  them  top  heavy  and  largely  immobile. 7KH ULJLG PDUN PDNLQJ XVHG UHĂ€HFWV this,  the  way  that  my  scalpel  dictated  the  shape  and  position  of  the  characters  secured  their  anchored  position  on  their  overrun  island. Mark  making  is  something  that  I  have  been  increasingly  conscious  of  over  the  past  year  or  so.   The  medium  and  method  of  application  can  drastically  affect  how  the  same  image  feels  on  a  page,  for  example  graphite  can  be  used  to  create  a  soft  smooth  object  when  applied  gently  and  considerately,  but  by  tightening  your  grip  and  contact  with  the  paper  you  are  able  to  create  quite  a  different  piece,  even  of  the  same  subject. THE STAG

This  piece  is  from  a  brief  called  'genius  loci';  to  create  character  designs  inspired  by  the  contents  and  surroundings  of  a  chosen  area.  In  this  case,  this  area  was  Winchester’s   nature  reserve.  Showing  the  dead  overgrown  roots  and  branches Â

which  spill  onto  the  paths  of  the  reserve  in  winter.  I’m  interested  Particularly  in  black/white  single  line  drawings,  pattern  design  and  t-shirt  design.  Aiming  to  start  my  own  t-shirt  line  following  my  studies  at  university.

// GUERILLA

GAMES Ailsa Sinclair and myself Jemini Pankhania are both level 2 Graphic Arts Students. Ailsa specialises in graphic design and I've specialised in illustration.

Four Days of Preparation. Motion censors covered up, water, food, kettle, pens, lamp, and coffee hidden in the room; we where ready for our game to begin.

Our room 3037 antic arose over late lunch in the canteen, reminiscing our school days. A random conversation about being locked in school or Uni lead us to then roam around the graphics studios looking for security cameras and motion censors. The thought of being locked in Uni had suddenly become a thrilling plan!

8pm Monday evening. We sneaked into room 3037 and hid under the table for two hot, stuffy, hours, waiting for Security to do his checks. This was no doubt the most nerve wracking part. If at this stage we'd got caught, it would all have been over.

10.01pm the coast was clear. We crept out from under the table, set up our lighting and the drawing begun. The idea behind our line drawings came from the word association game, but with images. We began with the topic 'Hide and Seek' and let out drawings go form there.

The project was a commercial brief so it’s a tame version of my aesthetic. My inspirations are a little more dark, I love Gareth Pugh, Hussein Chaliyan and Haider Ackermann to name but a few. The brief was for Peter Jensen, his clothes are quirky and girly. I used Gia Carangi as my muse, she was a supermodel in the 70’s-80's who died of AIDS's as a result of heroin addiction. She was a lesbian and androgynous, this is where my silhouette came from and the print,from a study of diseases related to HIV.
