J: Steve & myself met while I was working in a bar in Southampton. He’d had a bad day at work so I got him drunk. Josh wasn’t so lucky, he sent through his portfolio a job straight away.

so much to learn from an industry that is ever changing. When a client needs a print service we have a lot of experience print to our clients. S: Theres no denying the fact we live in This year we are looking to collaborate with other creative studios in both motion and web design. It’s important to keep thing fresh and healthy by extending our studio skill set. J: It was never the intention to set up a print studio. We were both graphic designers and our only experience at that point was with print. At the start we had a third partner who was taking care of our web work. When Dave left to work in London the main focus from that point onwards for Steve & myself was print.

S: It’s funny as we always get asked this by so many people ‘so what is original partner Dave Dirtbag, he has a

taken second place when it comes to communication. We feel there is still a market for print, just the feeling of something tangible in your hands, and the smell you get from newly printed work. You can’t beat it! Also with the development of & advances in paper stocks, the printing industry is a very exciting place to be right now. J: I feel that print will always exist, certainly in my lifetime. As long as you try to push the boundaries then it is still a very exciting medium to work with. I will always love & have a passion for print regardless of what the current trend may be.

GRACE HSU *Us I’m originally from Taiwan, lived in Vancouver for a couple years then wandered my way to the city of London. After studying at Kingston Uni, I am now working as a freelance photographer. “Us” is a series that leads from a personal project of photographing my boyfriend, Derek. I try to document our moments and memories. From that, I want to capture other couples’ invaluable moments and also challenge myself to photograph couples (I barely know some of them) in their comfort zone – as if I wasn’t there. hello@gracehsu.co.uk www.gracehsu.co.uk

BERNICE BOAHENE *The

Memory

of

Water Through the journey of looking at the water properties via experimentation, psychologically if one feels drawn into a relationship with water, a constant reminder of its importance is revealed to them. This inspired me to believe that by man, but by one who sees its importance, appreciates it and knows that without it, there is no life. bernice043@googlemail.com

like to keep the freshness and immediacy of this within all my work. Usually with a muted colour palette and minimal background. I am a keen collector and like to stash away old notes, bits of paper and vintage books. I’ve also been collecting and buying found 8mm home movies and photographs from junk shops etc. which i use to draw from. Something just draws me to these forgotten and discarded objects - I like to re-create stories for the people within them and bring them to life in my illustrations.

Each photo shows how I would like to remember that particular scene. What draws me most to taking a photograph is the vibrant yet lack of colours of the world, the view from down below and the way light can change a scene all together. Recently, I have been looking into double exposures and using them to create more dynamic meanings for my photographs. I am inspired by the photographs in magazines such as Nylon, Hunger and Vogue and inspired by Photographers such as Bryant Eslava, Jonathon Knowles and David Bailey. I take my camera everywhere with me ready to photograph when the opportunity presents itself. www.jagowned.tumblr.com @Jagonator

Trump

Cards

I love to create info-graphics of subjects that haven’t been documented in a graphic form and I also love photography and listening to Joy Division. My set of trump cards designed to compare and showcase individual typefaces and how they have been used by world leaders. Cards are compared by design year, creator, family, rank and usage. Includes leaders such as Obama and the famous campaign use of Gotham by the french parliament rebranding of Sarkozy using Didot.

It has four main components within a single cell, we have typefaces, which create numerous possibilities for folding and manipulating. ^In collaboration with Sophie Burt and Benji Roebuck

WILLIAM SUCKLING *Dregs Many previous covers for this book were very cliché and patronising to the book either, depicting a large Captain Nemo and his Nautilus Submarine. Therefore, I kept the project as a purely typographical exercise, as the majority of people reading the book will have an idea of what the book is about due to it’s age, and status in the literary world. From researching old print ads of the Victorian era I came up with a design and type ‘style’ which complements the book. Moreover I etched the design into copper as a reference to the diving suits of the time and to give the book a ‘hull’ in which to live in. www.behance.net/bayleydesign
