FIVE REASONS WHY WE MUST CARRY ON 1. America needs Christianity, and Christianity cannot be successfully perpetuated withoLlt a certain number of Christian schools, which become exponents of a Christian philosophy of life. 2.
Pac ific Lutheran College is the only school of its particular type on the Pacific
Coast, the only coeducational institution of secondary and higher education in the Luth eran Church in the Western two-fifths of the United States. 3.
Pacific Lutheran College is needed.
The State of \Vashington shares with
Montana and Nevada the undesirable distinction of having the largest percentage of unchurched people in the United S tates, seven out of every ten not being connected with any Christian church. 4. The Pacific Coast is a land of the future, and its important insti tutions are now in the making; only those who enter the land now may reasonably hope to possess it in the next generation. 5. Christianity in its very nature gives due recognition to the individual and pro tects liberty, and yet emphasizes unselfish service. Democracy means variety. Also for this reason we owe it to our country to carry on. Says Dr. Henry Suzzallo, Director of the National Advisory Committee on Education: "Ollr private ,-chools are jllst.as much American schools as our public schools. They
offer
a public service on a pril'ate foundation, and offer it in wider variety than tctX
mpported illstitutiom. '''Private and public schools arc supplemcnts in the American educational system. Together they offer a complete plan.
One type of educational management withollt the
other wOliid leave liS impoverished. "Public schools are so managed that they are respons/}'e to majorities. This i" their strength and weakness. Private schools are respOllsil'C to minorities" and minori ties are precioltS ill a democratic plan of life."
