THE TASK BEFORE US 1. To keep Pacific Lutheran College maximally lIseful.

Our lack o f adequate dormitory facilities makes i t doubtful that Pacific Lutheran College will have any large part in the specialized Army-Navy training program. What we can do, we will do most gladly. Our College of Education can and will do its part in preparing teachers for the first nine grades and in serving the needs of teachers in service. The maintenance of public education is a national necessity in war and in peace. Our College of Liberal Arts will function as opportunity permits in conjunction with the College of Education. Our Senior High School will offer persons of 'teen age education and training under conditions that many parents will especially value amid the dislocations and distractions of war. Our first task is to carry on as best we can as loyal Christian citizens in harmony with the traditions and ideals of Pacific Lutheran College as a servant of Church and State. 2. To improl'e the fina, zcial status of Pacific Lutheran College.

Now is the time to pay debts. That this can be done now is being demonstrated daily by those who dare and care sufficiently. Toward the minimum goal of $150,000 net, $79,430.37 have been pledged, more than half of which has been paid in. See List No.1, published in this BULLETIN. Objectives of this Campaign are: Debt Reduction (of first and immediate importance), Girls' Dormitory and Heat ing Plant (needed as soon as the war is over), completion o f the Library Building (another urgent necessity)' and Health Facil ities (partially acquired and now being paid for); priorities prevent construction now, but now is the time to gather the money. Remember the Development Association, with its slogan of "At least a dollar at least once a year." Many suggest that the slogan should be changed to five or ten dollars a year; even one hundred dollars has been suggested. But the basic idea is that every confirmed member of the Church, eJ'ery friend of the cause, every congrgation and e'Yery SlIbsidiary organization thereof, should be a member of the Development Association. Let us not look to others to discharge this responsibility for us. Our best chance of a balanced budget this difficult year lies in generous
