Upcoming Programs for Embla
At our March meeting, we are honored to welcome Dr. Donald Mott, the 2011 Greater Tacoma Peace Prize {GTPP) Laureate. He will present slides of the wonderful experience he and his wife {Barrie) had during their trip to Norway in December, which included receiving an invitation to and attending the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony! He will also speak about his volunteer work with China Partners Network, which helps children with neuromuscular disorders. {Note: Embla Lodge is one of the three founding supporters of the GTPP. Two of the six committee members represent Embla .) In April, Paul Leary- who played so beautifully for us in February in memory of his mother, Barbara Leary - will present a program of music by Nordic composers with his trio Helios {clarinet, cello, piano).
Dr. Mott is a Pediatric Neurosurgeon (retired)
May brings Joe Follansbee, author of six books including Bet: Stowaway Daughter, a book for young adults. The protagonist is a thirteenyear-old Norwegian-American girl named Lisbet "Bet" Lindstrom, who shares her story of adventure, mystery, loyalty, and love. Joe is the communications director for the tall ships "Lady Washington" and "Hawaiian Chieftain".
In June we will hear from Sonja Ruud, a soon -to-be {May) graduate of Pacific Lutheran University {PLU), who is excited to share her recent experiences in Norway as an exchange student. The study away program provides students with the opportunity to study and participate in Norway's democratic model and its successful implementation globally with respect to aid for developing countries and conflict resolution.
