falstaff society WINTER 2020

Dear Falstaff Society Member, We are grateful for all your strong support over the past few months. Navigating a business through a global pandemic and natural disasters has taught us more than a few lessons, and your loyalty has been a humble reminder of your love and appreciation for our wineries in the Napa Valley. Thank you for allowing us to keep doing what we love most, sharing our beautiful land with you through our wines. Napa Valley has a rich and long history of respecting the fruits of our labor and cultivating excellency thought winemaking, with your support it will continue for many vintages to come! For our November allocation we are delighted to bring to you our newly released 2018 PlumpJack Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, please learn more about this ultra-delicate and balanced vintage in the detailed tasting notes by our winemaker Aaron Miller. Remember that these wines are available to you first to drink, eat, share, celebrate (even if virtually) and experience Napa Valley once more. Thank you for being you,

Oscar Riveiro Woolsey Membership Manager

A LETTER TO OUR MEMBERS

P L U M P J A C K E S TAT E

cabernet sauvignon OAKVILLE | 2018

V I N TA G E

The strategy for the 2018 vintage was patience. The spring was cooler than the last several years. The vines woke up a little later, grew more slowly, bloomed later, and veraison was later. Cooler than normal temperatures persisted throughout the summer and into fall. And the grapes ripened very, very, very slowly. Weeks would pass with little progress. Flavors were slow to develop and the grapes remained firm and the skins thick. Rains threatened the vintage with about 1.5 inches falling on October 1st. More rains were forecast to follow, but they did not develop. Fortunately, the weather warmed in October and we were able to allow the grapes hang until they reached maturity. Our last grapes came through the cellar door on November 6th, which was the latest close to the harvest in our history.

WINEMAKER IMPRESSIONS

The cooler vintage allows more of the red fruits to shine in the 2018 PlumpJack Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose shows aromas of ripe cherry and raspberry, rose petal, anise, and a touch of blueberry and blackberry underneath. The barrels add layers of vanilla, toffee, nutmeg, cardamom, and cedar. These flavors come through on the palate as well, which is silky upon entry with a mouth-filling mid-palate, and showcases big and bold, yet fine and velvety, tannins throughout. The finish lingers for an eternity and eventually leaves you with the impression of baker’s chocolate and espresso. BY THE NUMBERS BOTTLE
