Dear Pursuit Society Member, Our transition from winter to spring saw the beauty of bud break, and now we’re witnessing the vines transition to an exuberant display of tender leaves that cover the valley floor. The vines have officially woken to the spring season, and the region is bursting with life. We’re feeling optimistic as we break out of our own state of quarantine. Our team at all four wineries is ready to welcome our guests and introduce our latest releases. Choose from a relaxed tasting on the back porch at PlumpJack Estate Winery; stunning views atop Howell Mountain at CADE Estate Winery; a visit to world-renowned Stags Leap District at Odette Estate Winery; and lastly, an elevated Library Wine Tasting experience at 13th Vineyard on Howell Mountain. This wine is crafted from the famed Hudson Ranch off of Henry Road in the Carneros AVA of Napa Valley. 2019 is the second year working with both Block 5BS and 6S. These unique blocks bring a combination of different attributes that harmonize beautifully in the final blend. The adjacent blocks are both planted to Odette Estate Winemaker Jeff Owens’ favorite selection, “old shot wente,” also referred to as “chicks and hens.” 2019 brought about another year of patience. Every milestone in the vineyard cycle for the growing season arrived later, which ultimately pushed back harvest to late September. Thankfully without any threats from Mother Nature, we were able to wait calmly for optimal flavor and phenolic development across both blocks.
WINEMAKER IMPRESSIONS
The 2019 Odette Reserve Chardonnay delivers elegance, purity and class, offering notes of brioche, white peach, mango, orange blossoms, jasmine, honeysuckle and toasted hazelnuts. Block 5Bs adds riper tropical notes with concentration and depth, while 6S brings the prettier, classier side to the table. 100% barrel fermented in 80% new French Oak and sur lie aged, this “old shot wente” selection will be hard to resist early and will provide an ample drinking window for years to come.
