Happy Holidays... This time of year is one of my favorite. The colors, the fashion, the time spent with friends and family, and of course, the yummy food. When I look back at the past 11 months I feel good about the concentrated efforts team PMM put forth. This year we tackled the “PLUS DIVIDE”... (celebrating plus size models), our very first “Black Issue” (the need for more diversity) and we began our celebration of our readers in our REAL Model/Real Woman features.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

As we close another chapter and another year, I encourage all of you to be more than a spectator in what is happening in the plus size industry. Do more than just post comments... get involved and support all of those that are trying to elevate the level of this industry. In the next year PMM will be making major changes and we hope that you will support us as we work harder to support you, the plus size woman.

glamorous time of year to get dressed!
The hustle bustle and endless day to night celebrations inspire an abundant adornment of glitz, glam, sparkle, and shine that infiltrates our wardrobes. No matter how you choose to celebrate the season, there are endless festive trends to put you in the holiday spirit! Sequins, beading, lace, faux fur, cozy oversized sweaters, ornate embellishments and accessories galore!
In this month’s issue, our Shopping & Style Editor, Alissa has handpicked “12 Uber Chic Plus Size Coats” that will keep you warm and toasty while still making a statement. I have highlighted 7 holiday dress trends that will have you looking your best for a season full of celebration, and fashion contributor, Monique puts the perfect finishing touches on your most festive outfits with accessories full of “Holiday Sparkle & Shine”. Finally, Beauty Editor, Tara shows us how to wear the season’s top hair and makeup looks with “Wearable Winter Beauty Trends Straight from the Runway”.
I hope this issue inspires you to embrace all the sparkle and shine that the season has to offer, and encourages you to create beautiful fashion memories.
Not only is December a time of celebration and cheer, but also a time of great reflection on the success and the struggle that has shaped another year. I am grateful for all the amazing opportunities that have presented themselves this year and I move into the New Year full of gratitude, hope, and thanks!
Cheers to a 2015 full of love, joy, good health, happiness and prosperity to you and yours! xoxo

Wearable Winter Beauty TrendsStraight From the Runway Even though I don’t live by trends, I always find it fun to tailor those of the season and make them wearable for my clients and myself. Instead of going all out, take a subtler route by taming the more extravagant looks. Save for a few, the Winter 2014 beauty trends are really wearable!

Clinique Exfoliating Scrub
As women, we are always aiming to have smooth and clear skin, that is why this exfoliating scrub is awesome! It leaves your skin radiant. It unclogs pores, and leaves your skin clearer and smoother!
halle’s favs Victoria’s Secret Flavored Lip Scrub
I love this lip scrub so much because it makes your lips super-soft, clear, and keeps them moist! I also cannot resist the tasty smell!
MAC Lipstick
I absolutely LOVE LOVE lipstick! It boosts my confidence everytime I put it on. My favorite brand is MAC, simply because there are so many different shades and textures. In addition, it STAYS on my lips. My favorite lip is “Ruby Woo” (if you’re feeling sassy - lol) or “SNOB” (a soft pink). Lipstick honestly completes my everyday looks and makes me feel a bit more feminine.
Neutrogena Deep Clean Makeup Remover Wipes
I understand that after a long day of wearing makeup, most of us do not want to take it off! These makeup wipes are oil free and are easy to use and are gentle on your skin! Must - must - must have!
Maybelline Volum’ Express Mascara
Ladies, this is a MUST HAVE! This mascara makes your eyelashes look INCREDIBLE! It’s long lasting effect is amazing and gives your eyes a sexy, intense look.

years old. I am approaching my 40th birthday, and the years of wearing makeup have taken a toll on my skin. I know I need to wear less makeup to heal, but I’m very insecure about going out in public without it. How can I fix my skin, but still use makeup to cover up the damage. Katrina from San Antonio, TX
Hi Katrina, It sounds like there could be several things to consider here. Makeup usually doesn’t damage your skin unless there is an allergic reaction. In that case, see a dermatologist. As a matter of fact, it’s another protective barrier from free radicals and UV rays that DO damage your skin. Especially the complexion makeup today: SPF, antiaging, blemish treatment, etc.
My view on makeup is that you don’t have to wear much if your skin is in great condition. That begins with what you eat and drink. Starting with more water and omega fats, and less sugar and caffeine is sure to make a positive impact on your skin.
Also, make sure to cleanse your face properly before bed with products that are fit for your skin concerns. If your face is typically dry, use a cleanser that nourishes and moisturizes rather than strips your skin of oils. Then follow up with a good moisturizer.
In the days, always be sure to wear at least SPF 15, even in the winter. UV rays don’t care what season it is. And once or twice a week, exfoliate. That instantly improves the texture of your skin, not to mention helps your skin breath by clearing pores. CLICK to find my Easy Steps to Glowing Skin.
So all this said, you now know you can keep wearing your makeup, provided you keep your brushes and sponges clean by washing them once a week and making sure your complexion products aren’t too old. I’ve given you a detailed list of Makeup and Tools Expiration on my blog - click to view.

perfect for winter
The winter season is all about outerwear, and I have one rule of thumb for a fabulous winter coat wardrobe‌ If your budget allows, you should have at least 3 amazing coats in your closet- a casual coat, a dressier option coat, and one that offers a little something extra, like a bold print or texture. If your budget does not allow for 3

coats, then I suggest investing in one killer coat that will turn heads when you walk down the streets. Also, knowing the current trends will help you choose the most stylish coat for your budget. There are a plethora of options in plus sizes, including camel color wool coats, plaid, fur and leather embellishing, and rich bright colors. To help you out, I’ve handpicked 12 statement making plus size winter coats.

This month, Liris shares her tips to aspiring models looking to follow in her footsteps. Maddy: This past year has been an exciting one for you; can you tell us a little about it? Liris: Well, I kicked off the year with my “Life of a Working Model Boot Camp, which educates aspiring models on how to break into the business and also give them the tools to better reach their dreams and maintain it. I rocked the cover of Daily Venus Diva Magazine and appeared in the first Black issue of PLUS Model Magazine. Then I headed to London for UK Plus Size Fashion Week where I ripped the runway as a feature model! I popped over to Paris and shot the cover of Volup2 Magazine. This year, I also started working as the premier model for Eveden Lingerie in their NYC showroom. I shot my second campaign for Blush Prom. I also have a weekly radio show on PNCRadio.fm every Wednesday called The Commission, started a monthly brunch party called

#TheChrisCrosseBrunch and I’ve hosted some panels for Ebony.com. I’m currently in the holiday campaign for Ashley Stewart in stores and featured in the holiday press shoot for UK retailer Evans. Whew, that was a mouthful, lol! I’m already setting up 2015. I stay driven! Maddy: There are many aspiring models looking for their big break. What is your advice to them? Liris: Most people aren’t an overnight success. After I was signed, it took me a year to get my first job. Research, do the work, stay steadfast, get out there and network. Make sure to shoot with quality photographers, submit online for projects that can up your visibility in the market, attend my boot camps or any workshops where you can learn more and be ready to spend some money. Modeling is a constant investment. Maddy: You are one of the most body confident plus size models we know. Has self confidence been a progression for you? Liris: I was lucky because I grew up with a dad who always told me I was beautiful. My body has gone through quite a few changes over the years. I started out on the smaller side of plus modeling as a size 8-10 and grew into the size 14 I am now. I like to call it “my grown woman size”, lol! I had to embrace my curves on a different level. I have always been about healthy curves. I feel women should be at a size that’s comfortable for them and that is healthy. Skinny doesn’t necessarily mean healthy, just like plus size doesn’t necessarily mean unhealthy. So I do my best to love my body no matter how it fluctuates. Maddy: How do you feel about modeling for plus size women who have historically been treated as second-class citizens in the fashion industry?

Liris: I remember when I started out, I didn’t even know plus modeling existed. When I met with my first agency and saw the comp cards of the women on the board, I saw that they were all beautiful with just some meat on their bones. I felt accepted because I finally fit in somewhere. I knew that there was lots of work that needed to be done as far as changing the fashion industry and the public’s view of curvy fashion and beauty. So I began to push my way into the music and fashion industry through my appearances in different projects, alone and alongside straight size models. I’ve been known to be one of the first models to start that push.

I feel it’s an honor to represent plus women because it means diversity. It means that someone feels as though they can see themselves represented in fashion and media. I’m proud to model and be one of those who represents for the plus woman. Maddy: Who are your personal mentors? Liris: My mom has always been a mentor to me. She has so much compassion and is so strong. My dad has been a trailblazer through politics so he has prepared me to be a trailblazer as well. My sister is a life coach, who constantly gives me great advice and makes me check myself. NFL Hall of Famer Curtis Martin is also a friend and personal mentor to me through his private life class. He has helped me to grow more than he’ll ever know. He’s a great man of character. I also look up to people like Oprah for her inspiration and business mind, Tyra Banks for making her curves work for her and her enterprising ways, and Naomi Campbell for her longevity and body of modeling work. Also, there’s women like Bevy Smith of Bravo’s “Fashion Queens” who’s a friend and inspires me by showing that you can follow your dreams at any stage in life and also to embrace reinvention. Lashawnna Stanley of Ethnicity Talent has also been a trailblazer and a pot of realness & positivity for me.

Maddy: How would you like to see the plus size industry change? Liris: I would just like to see more diversity, period! More size diversity, more racial diversity! I would like to see the blurring of the lines between plus size, straight size, and color lines where we all work together more. Plus and straight size of all colors on the runways, on the magazine pages and in campaigns together! Hopefully, high fashion will start to reflect our world! I already see it starting to happen more. Maddy: What are your goals for 2015? Liris: Hopefully, return to London again for UK Plus Size Fashion Week 2015 and other work with clients there. Expand my Life of a Working Model Bootcamps with more locations & classes. Start to invade your TV screens and movies again. I would love to work with Target, Macy’s, Swimsuits for All, Covergirl and Addition Elle, to name a few. Start doing yoga! Fall in love! Start to write my book! Get a campaign with a high fashion brand or designer. Shoot for Vogue Italia! Travel! Live, laugh, love! Liris is a model signed to Dorothy Combs in the U.S. & Hughes Models in the UK.

Suzanne: In Puerto Rico, it is the first plus size fashion media outlet. My goal was to create a quality media outlet that was fashionable, reliable, trendy and aspirational. Anyone who visits the site can identify with the topics I bring. Our goal is to communicate with the highest standards of information and tools and update them regularly. Maddy: The plus size fashion industry has been evolving, can you tell us about how it has changed in Puerto Rico? Suzanne: Puerto Rico has always had people working on plus size projects, but none have ever demanded the fashion industries recognition. I am very happy, that thanks to my experience in communications, I have been able to impact more people and achieve strategic alliances in order to achieve a greater reach of the population in Puerto Rico. In one year, we achieved recognition in mass media/television, newspapers and magazines with the message, “Being fashionable is not determined by your size. Now people are beginning to accept the term PLUS SIZE; this is a great joy for me. Maddy: You have taken the plight of the plus size woman and her right for fashion in Puerto Rico to the masses and anyone who will listen. Can you tell us about all the exciting things that are happening? Suzanne: Currently I have a fashion segment on EGOTV that is transmitted in Puerto Rico on WAPA TV, and in the United States
through WAPA AMERICA. I also I have a plus size fashion column in the newspaper EL VOCERO DE PUERTO RICO (www.elvocero.com), and I’m a contributor to several local media outlets. Maddy: Tell me about Caribbean Curves and why you decided to bring this type of event to Puerto Rico. Do you have any plans to expand? In Puerto Rico 67% of the population is plus sized and 52% of the
model is really like and also the business side of modeling. On December 6th and 7th you, along with Christina Mendez, will be in Puerto Rico for a two day workshop that will cover everything from posing and runway to the business side of modeling. In 2015, we will hold the first,“Plus Size Fashion Week” in Puerto Rico. We want the local and international audience to have the opportunity to know the fashion market and beauty of our island. @violet_sag10 I love seeing plus size models, but I never see any with stretch marks... Do none of you have them or do they get “Photoshopped” out? What’s the story?
I’m going to answer you honestly. The fashion industry and magazines always use Photoshop to tweak pictures. Every single ad you see in a paper magazine or editorial is tweaked. The plus size industry is no different. Editorials sell a fantasy and fashion is about aspirational ways to sell the clothing. Do some

people take it way too far? Absolutely, but for the most part the plus-size industry is extremely modest in how they use Photoshop.
@marquiesa What are some great tips for walking runway? With FFFW Auditions coming up, the advice could really help!
If there is a local runway workshop in your area, take it! If not, then start practicing. Go on YouTube and search for FFFWEEK videos and look at the models walking down the runway. Some will be more experienced than others, so mimic your walk after those that seem most confident and whose walk seems most mature. You may also search for the model director, Sharon Quinn. She has a lot of experience on the runway and you will see her on the runway during her modeling days.

interview by tiffany bank tiffanybank.net
Tiffany: What made you decide to become a plus size model?
Aliyah: Becoming a model has always been a dream of mine. Growing up and learning what the standard was made me a bit discouraged because I felt I would never have a chance in Since learning about the demand of plus size clothing and models in 2010, I became hopeful again seeing that the dynamics had changed and jumped right into my research to figure out how I would be able to turn this dream deferred into a dream come true! Aliyah: Small, yet rapidly growing, and here to stay! It’s a tough and competitive industry, especially for us models, but I love it!
Tiffany: Who are your favorite plus designers, models, bloggers and/or celebrities?
Frazier, Youtheary Khmer, and a few others. I really have a different type of love for the indie designers because they understand the hustle of chasing this dream. I am a huge fan of Denise Bidot. I look to her often and I aspire to be as great as her. I adore Essie Golden, who is one of my favorite bloggers. She embraces and shows a lot of love.
Tiffany: Where do you see yourself in the next year?
Aliyah: In the next year my heart’s desire is to be successful in the modeling industry. I look forward to the continuous growth, growing my client list, and working closely with my agency to be sure I’m staying on track.
