using sugar, solely for economic reasons: honey is simply more expens than table sugar.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT SUGARING
• The mixture only sticks to the hair, and not the skin. Wax sticks to bot hair and the skin.
• Unlike waxing, you apply the sugar mixture in the opposite direction o
growth, while pulling it off in the direction of the growth, making ingrown less likely to occur. • It is safe to go over the same area twice without burning the skin.
• Many women will find that the hair growth has slowed down considera after a period of time.

to reach this consistency. Store it in a microwavable container. If you want to apply this without the strips, you simmer it to a golden color, so that it resembles honey. Wearing disposable gloves, dip into the warm sugar paste, and apply to hair. Allow to cool, and then pull it off using your fingers, without the use of a strip. It dries hard, like candy and is easily removed. Before I use it on my body or face, I allow it to cool down completely, and reheat it for a minute in the microwave. Sugar has a very high temperature when cooking it, so if it is scalding hot, it will of course burn you. I like to control the temperature in this way. Happy Hair Removal! As a makeup artist, I have always stressed proper skin care. When
{FACE} your skin is in great shape, the less {EARS} corrective makeup you have to wear. Which means all you have to do is {NECK} focus on enhancement instead of covering and camouflaging. During the summer it is equally, if not more, important to protect your skin from the sun as it is to cleanse and exfoliate. And if you are exfoliating on a regular basis, protection is ESSENTIAL when that beautiful new skin is exposed to the sun.

BEAUTY
Q&A
with Tara Taylor
Jennifer from San Francisco, CA Asks... How do I know whether to use an eyebrow pencil or eyebrow powder?
I
have heard this question so many times; I’m glad you asked, Jennifer. It all depends on your brows and the look you want to create.
Powder is good for giving a softer appearance and great if you already have pretty full brows, but have a few spaces to fill in. If your brows are sparse and there’s a lot of skin showing, pencil will give a sharper line and better definition. An option for sculpted brows is to use pencil and follow with powder.
Note: Pencil tends to be waxy, so applying a little translucent powder on top will take care of the sheen.

diversity- all career levels, all sizes, and all ethnicities! It is always a delicate balance of creative vision, business practicality, and a little serendipity, and when we were discussing our June issue, we knew it had to be Rosie! It has been amazing to watch Rosie’s journey since I first had the chance to style her back in the summer of 2010. She is positive, uplifting, inspirational, and just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. The meaning behind Rosie’s new capsule collection, FUERZA for SWAK Designs, is strength and power, so when finalizing the concept for her editorial feature, I wanted the styling to bring her vision to life. Bold statement accessories, mixed metals, studs, grommets, gold chain, and graphic power heels! FUERZA to inspire us all! This month’s issue is jam packed with all the best in plus size fashion, accessories, and beauty for the summer season, and the team’s tips and tricks on how to flawlessly put it all together! I hope this issue inspires you to celebrate your style, showcase your strength, and as always, to “think outside the fashion box”!

Last summer this month’s cover model, Rosie Mercado was introduced to the world as the happy go lucky, mother and model on NUVO TV’s hit reality series “Curvy Girls”. While battling rumors in regards to her drastic weight loss, dealing with divorce, and experiencing a major health scare, this Latin beauty was forced to find her inner “FUERZA.” Determined to beat the odds no matter what, and encourage every woman to do the same, businesswoman Mercado is introducing her FUERZA COLLECTION by SWAK to the masses.

Rosie’s Rules for Success
1
Wake up in the morning and say “THANK YOU”; wake up with a heart of gratitude. Walk with gratitude through the good and bad, understand that when good happens it’s a blessing and when bad happens it’s a blessing as well. If you come from a place of gratitude you will attract more of that in your life.

must be quality people, inspirational people, people that strive for the best. People that come from a place of LOVE.
Come from a place of inspiration rather than desperation. Say I am beautiful; I am successful and so on. As you speak it, it will be done; it’s biblical and that’s a big part of it.
4
Action! Consistent and determined action, make sure you have a strategy and game plan. When you have that strategy in place, start taking action. When you are consistent your dreams will come to pass.

Tips for Aspiring Models By Fallon Sinclair
Agency Director IPM Models
The world of plus size modeling may seem a lot more complicated than it actually is. This month we sat down with IPM Models Agency Director Fallon Sinclair to discuss her top tips for aspiring models.
1
Please educate yourself beforehand. Before you make any move — whether that’s working with a photographer, or signing with an agency, do your research!
2
So many models make the process of finding an agency more difficult than it needs to be because they are casting too wide of a net. Start at the local level, find out who is considered the best in your city and/or state and that can give the right guidance and nurturing you need; use that as your starting point. I guarantee it will simplify things and make the whole process of getting into the industry that much easier for you. It doesn’t make sense to ask around for the best agencies...
PLUS-MODEL-MAG.COM / JUN 2013
Photo,
, Fadil Bershia
JUNE JUN 2013 / PLUS-MODEL-MAG.COM
...we all know who the big players are, but unless you live near those agencies or plan on moving there, pursuing them isn’t very realistic when you’re just starting out. Remember, it takes baby steps.
3
Always be prepared. Some models choose to take classes — which may help — but are not always needed. Just make sure that you study before every encounter, whether it be an interview or a photo shoot.
4
Be yourself. One thing that will draw people into your work is authenticity. People want to hire models that they genuinely like being around. A winning smile, and a wonderful disposition will likely be remembered and looked upon favorably.
5
Through careful research, consideration, waiting and patience, you can make it into the business. You may get signed right away or it may take a while. Just remember that you’re not the only person applying and it does take some time for agencies and their staff to go through picture after picture until that rising star shines out at them, so please be patient... and be able to handle and take constructive criticism.
