BACK BEFORE WE KNOW IT
No sooner have we opened up our home campaign at the pavilions, we are back again to face off against the Sheffield Sharks.
Sheffield are always a difficult team to beat as they are well organised, well coached and with a new venue in place are on the up in the league.
The team will need to be on top of their game today if they are going to get anything out of this encounter and be able to break down a Sheffield side who always defend really well and hold teams to low numbers offensively.
To get the win I believe we need to see a great all round team performance at both ends of the floor. Mason will need to pull the strings and the likes of TJ, Jacob, and Taylor to score consistently when the opportunities occur. We have had individual MVP performances from these players, but we will need to have them all firing at the same time to get the win today.
Defensively we will need to see a combined effort with Mikhai and D’Andre showing what they can do beyond scoring and all members of the roster reducing turnovers, preventing foul trouble, and ensuring they keep Sheffield score
down quarter by quarter. Being consistent over four quarters is going to be key and seeing the game out professionally.
I believe we haven’t seen the best of this group yet and it will be interesting to see how they react to two high tempo games in three days and how they react to Friday’s performance.
It was great to see Joe Hart makes his debut this season on Friday and I know how hard he has worked to get back to playing this season. Joe is a fan’s favourite for what he has done at the club over the last two years and it’s great to see him back in action.
With more games as they come thick and fast, I am sure that this team will improve, and I know each and every one of them want to do their best for this club. The group is very tight and transferring this to the court is key.
Our first Sunday game is sure to be a great atmosphere and the support from Friday’s game was really warmly received from the players. Let’s keep this going and drive the team on today. Your support is always appreciated.

COACH PJ A WORD FROM
Good evening, welcome to the Pavilions for our first home games of the 2023-24 British Basketball League season. Today we host the Sheffield Sharks.
After a disappointing end to the 2022-23 season, it was important that we identified the reasons why and made sure that we put ourselves in a better position as a team to be more competitive for this re-formatted campaign.
After reflecting on the season and looking at the personnel on the team, the decision was made to revamp the whole squad and only retain two players from that playing roster in Elvis Dusha and Jules Akodo. Fan favourite Rashad Hassan ruled himself out by announcing to the club he was not interested in returning for 2023-24 season.
Joe Hart would be returning to playing duties since his injury and this weekend will be his first competitive games for a year and it’s a real positive for the team to have Joe back on court.
Knowing what we needed to do, a lot of time effort and research went into putting this season’s squad together and I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen to this point. I have been impressed with the work ethic and commitment of putting in the hard work that we are going to need to keep us healthy and competitive this season.
We were not able to have the pre-season that we would have liked having only playing one preseason game and this showed against Bristol Flyers
in our first game. We looked a little off the pass and clearly still getting used to playing together as a unit and executing a playing system that for most of the team was new.
We had a much-improved performance against Leicester Riders in our second game, and I came away disappointed with the loss, but happy with the way we played and competed. The improvements shown from the week before was excellent. We lead for a large part of the game and going into the fourth quarter, but lost our way a little and didn’t close the game out. The positive thing is that we were more than competitive and the mistakes we made were of our own doing and are within our control to change.
We have some great talent in the squad this season and I’m sure as you get to know them you will see that they are also great people as well. It’s going to be a long season the important thing for us to make our home court a fortress and a difficult place for the opposition to come and play. You, the best supporters in the British Basketball League will play a big part in making this a reality, so keep it loud and proud!
I extend a warm welcome to Sheffield’s coaching staff, players, and supporters for these British Basketball League championship games.
ENJOY THE GAME.

MATCH REPORT
The Plymouth City Patriots are, so far, still without a win in their league campaign, after a narrow loss to former BBL Champions, the Leicester Riders.
The Riders, who suffered a shock defeat last weekend to Cheshire Phoenix, were heavy favourites ahead of Friday night’s clash and they were themselves looking for their first win of the season.
On the night, the Patriots would not make it easy for Leicester. After a tightly contested first quarter the Patriots took the lead, and held it until the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, when the Riders home fans who, up until that point, had been silenced by the Patriots play, suddenly sprung into life. The home side managed to wrestle control of the game and hit key shots down the stretch, securing an 88-81 victory over the visitors.
“Massive improvement. We can take some great heart from this game,” said head coach Paul James post game. He continued, “there’s still plenty to work on, but we were the better team for the majority of the night. We’ll have to go back over the game tape and analyse the latter stages of this one, but the effort was there and we’ll take the same levels into the next game.”
Mason Faulkner was back and fully fit for Friday night’s loss, but certainly gave Patriots fans a sample of exactly what he can do. He connected very well with both Jacob Wiley and TJ Atwood to give the Plymouth side an impressive nucleus, they now offer up some versatility and identity moving forward.
The Patriots long awaited return to Plymouth is finally here as the team looks to prepare for their first home fixture of the season. The tip off is scheduled for Friday night, 7:30pm and tickets have already been selling like hotcakes. Plymouths premier basketball team is set to take on the Manchester Giants and could well take to the floor as slight favourites, giving the fans at Pavilions something to shout about.
