BRING ON 2023

Following a packed house against Bristol we turn our attentions to the trophy as we take on the Scottish champions showcasing our Trophy teal kit for this game!

We didn’t end 2022 in the way we had hoped and obviously we have now had to deal with Antonio Williams departure from the club following an overseas approach. We unfortunately couldn’t match the offer from a European club and with his buy-out clause activated we had to resign ourselves to losing the player. As much as I’m saddened that we won’t have him for the remainder of the season, I’m proud that we have been able to attract his talents to Plymouth and showcase him to our fans. There aren’t many players in the BBL with his explosiveness and it’s our job now to bring in some talent to replace him.

With games back-to-back we hope to be able to rotate our roster with the players we have and also give opportunities today to the Marjon students who form part of our pathway. This pathway is vitally important to the club and enables us to grow the next generation of professionals and give them opportunities such as today. The relationship with Plymouth Marjon University is growing and is a vital partner in us expanding our youth development.

We also are excited by 2023 as we have the opportunity to bring in some fresh talent into the club and give the fans some more excitement this year along with some exciting news on our growing youth development programme.

Along with plans for the BBL league growing exponentially over the coming years we hope to follow that growth with delivering a real hotbed of basketball both on and off the court in the southwest and help the region deliver its potential.

There’s a lot to be positive regarding the patriots and it’s amazing the position we are in from 12 months ago which I would thank everyone for their support and drive in 2023. There’s a lot we can achieve as a club, but we can achieve more together as a collective and look forward to being alongside you for this journey.

It’s not often we get a Saturday night of basketball and let’s revel in the occasion and show Scotland what a west country welcome sounds like. The trophy draw has been kind to us and let’s maximise this to progress deep into the competition and drive the teal machine into the latter stages.

COACH PJ A WORD FROM

Good evening and welcome to the Plymouth Pavilions for this evenings BBL Trophy first round game against last season’s Scottish league and play-off champions, St Mirren Saints. The saints are coached by Matthew Giroux.

I hope that everyone had a great New Year and are now ready to make some noise this evening for our first and only game at home his month.

We pick up a couple of losses over the festive period, but we are now ready to resume with the hard work and focus we had started to show in our performances towards the latter end of 2022.

This evening’s game is going to be a tricky one for us and especially not knowing too much about this St Mirren side.

What we do know is that they have a former Scottish international in Chris Cleary who was a part of the Scottish National team when they played in the 2018 Commonwealth games in Australia. They also have a former Glasgow Rocks and Scottish international player in Fergus Hart. Rest assured we will be treating St Mirren with a great deal of respect this evening and need to be fully focused where the winner awaits either Team Wales or Derby Trailblazers.

I’m looking for a really good performance from the whole team this evening as we head up to

Cheshire tomorrow for another big game, but this time in the BBL Championship against the in-form Cheshire Phoenix.

The games are going to start coming thick and fast now and we are going to need every little bit of help that we can get from you.

You will all be aware by now that Antonio Williams is due to leave the club this week. Since joining the team in January of 2022 last season, Antonio showed right from the very start his toughness and winning mentality. He helped to dramatically turn our season around and was instrumental in the team making the end of season playoffs in our inaugural BBL championship campaign.

He gave us many highlights that we can look back on and smile. Antonio is certainly a one off the likes of which we have not seen in the BBL before and probably won’t again!

I would like to thank him for all that he has done on the court and wish him the greatest of success with his new team.

A warm welcome to St Mirren’s coaching staff, players, and staff for this BBL Trophy game.

THE GAME.

ROUND UP

It’s been a tough festive period for the Patriots. Heading into the Christmas break the Patriots had managed to work their way to fourth and a winning record of 8 wins, 6 losses. Set to face two of the top three teams in the country between Christmas and New Year, the Patriots seemed poised to cause an upset and prove they belonged with the premier teams of the BBL.

Unfortunately, two heavy defeats were issued by South West rivals, Bristol Flyers and the richest team in the land, London Lions. Both games had a similar feel, with the Patriots hanging tough at the mid way marker, managing to stay within striking distance of their opponents and perhaps apply more pressure in the second half. In both cases it appeared to be too much for the Patriots, who simply didn’t have the depth or quality that the Flyers and Lions have in their arsenal. The Flyers, with multiple rotational changes early in the game, were just too strong and too deep and ran the Patriots out of the gym. The Lions even more so, with the depth and quality of the team being too much for every BBL team, let alone the Patriots.

“We couldn’t make shots, and nothing seemed to go our way,” said captain Elvisi Dusha, referring to the team’s last two results. He continued, “time off over Christmas, after winning five of our last six games has had an effect, to be honest. We’ve got to do a better job of staying professional.”

Looking ahead to 2023, Dusha had this to say, “we have got to lock in, turn things around and make sure this sort of thing doesn’t happen again. We know when we play our game, we can get the Pavilions crowd rocking!”

The team has the opportunity to kick 2023 off with a win, facing St Mirren Saints in the BBL Trophy on tpnight, in the only home game through January. You can catch the rest of the Patriots January fixtures on the BBL Player, or via the BBL’s YouTube account.

GRAPHIC DESIGN CREATIVE HERO

How do you choose the right people to create your brand, conceive your next ad campaign, or design packaging for your new product? There are numerous agencies and freelancers in the Plymouth area alone, many producing strong creative work. Clearly, you need to check their portfolios and fees. But, crucially, you also need to know how they work and why they design the way they do.

Great design is as much about function, as it is about being beautiful. My approach is to understand your plans, assess the challenges you may face, and find effective solutions to realise your goals. Whatever the job, I aim to produce design that increases recognition in your target audience, tells your story and prompts customers to choose you over your competition. Just speak to my clients and see what they have to say.

“THE GUY’S A GENIUS”
