Learn for Free All courses in this edition are FREE to Plymouth Community Homes’ residents and all courses (apart from the CSCS Open Day) will be held at Plumer House, Tailyour Road, Crownhill, PL6 5DH. You can book on one course, or on as many as you like, or why not try this editions Career Pathway: Childcare. Future editions will feature different career pathways, so look out for careers in construction, health and beauty, tourism and much more.
NEW Career Pathway: Childcare Ever thought of a career in childcare, such as working at a Children’s Nursery, After-School Club, Play Group or Holiday Club? Whatever your age, we have designed a programme so you can complete the first steps to achieving your goal. Combine the following courses to form a neat package to start you on your path: • How to Cook Healthy Meals for the Kids • Level 1 Food Hygiene • On Course for Childcare • Paediatric (baby and toddler) First Aid • Improve your CV, Cover Letter and Interview Skills There will also be the opportunity to use your new CV to apply for work experience placements at local Nurseries. If you are successful in securing one of our placements linked to this pathway, we will help with the cost of your DBS check. Once you have completed the Career Pathway programme, we may be able to offer you support to complete the personal plan you put together during the ‘On Course for Childcare’. How to Cook Healthy Meals for the Kids Learn how to cook healthy, easy and cost effective meals for yourself or the family. Course dates: Thursday 15 September or Friday 30 September, 10am – 12.30pm
Level 1 Food Hygiene A certificated Chartered Institute in Environmental Health qualification – an essential requirement for the catering industry, and an overall useful life-skill. Course dates: Tuesday 27 September or Thursday 29 September, 9.30am – 1pm
On Course for Childcare Discover your first steps to working in Childcare and let us help you explore what’s required in this role. We will help you to put together your own career plan so you know the steps you need to take to achieve your goal with confidence. Course dates: Tuesday 11 October and Wednesday 12 October, 9.30am – 3.30pm on each day

Paediatric (baby and toddler) First Aid A certificated two day course in Paediatric First Aid. Course dates: Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 October, 9.30am – 4.30pm
Improve your CV, Cover Letter and Interview Skills Make sure that you show yourself in the best possible light for that job you want. You’ll need basic IT skills for this course, so come along to our Computer Club (see below) if you need to brush-up on your skills. Course dates: Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 November, 9.30am – 3.30pm
CSCS Green Card Open Day Learn more about the CSCS Card and find out about up-coming CSCS courses (CSCS courses are free to those on unemployment benefits). Open Day date and time: Tuesday 25 October, 11am – 2pm Venue: The Beacon, 163 North Prospect Road, PL2 2NE
Computer Club - looking to get online but not sure where to start? PCH have a FREE Computer Club for residents. There is no need to book for this friendly drop-in session. You can come along and use our desktop computers, laptops and tablets or bring your own device, and use the FREE Wifi. You can start at the beginning, learning to search the internet or create an email address. Or maybe you want to learn something new, like keeping in touch using social media or topping up your skills in Word or Excel. A tutor is on hand to help you learn new skills at your own pace. Course dates: Every Wednesday, 1pm – 4pm
PCH Craft Club Would you like to develop or try a creative hobby? Whether you want to share your skills, learn something new or come along and make friends. Course dates: Every Tuesday and Thursday, 12 noon – 3pm
Work Clubs We currently support Work clubs in Devonport, North Prospect, Efford, Southway, St Budeaux and West Park. Work Clubs can help you find that job you want.
