Dear Plymouth Public Schools Community, As the 2020-21 school year comes to a close, I would like to take a moment to sincerely express my appreciation. To our students and families: I’m sure the circumstances and obstacles of this year were very frustrating and felt as if they evolved on a weekly, if not daily basis. You faced these challenges with great resilience and understanding. I am so grateful for your toughness and adaptability and recognize the challenges you have all faced and overcome this school year. To our faculty and staff: every one of our employees has worked harder and been tested more this year than ever before. I hope our entire community will join me in thanking all of you. None of this would have been possible if it were not for your tremendous dedication. Thank you to our community partners: whether it was organizing a team of volunteers to assist our meal distribution efforts, donating resources, or delivering Chromebooks to thousands of families, our community has always been there for us in our time of greatest need and we appreciate you and your kindness. I would like to publicly acknowledge and thank our Board of Health and Director of Public Health for their valuable expertise, input, and tremendous guidance. We are so fortunate to have such great partners in our efforts to maintain student and staff wellness. I am personally so grateful for their support. To the School Committee, thank you for the countless hours, days, and nights you have spent with me and our administration on behalf of this great community. Your commitment to our students and staff has been inspiring and I will be eternally grateful for your advocacy and assistance. This year certainly has not been perfect, but we all woke up every day with the goal of doing better. We wouldn't have been nearly as successful if it weren’t for the collective support of our entire community. While we are winding down this school year, we are also planning for 2021-22. I look forward to sharing our District’s goals, as well as my own professional goals, in the coming months. Thank you again for your unparalleled cooperation and support during this year. We could not have made it through without you. It is an honor to serve as your Superintendent. I hope you all have a joyful and safe summer! Sincerely,

Chris Campbell Superintendent of Schools

SUMMER READING

We are pleased to present the 2021 Plymouth Public Schools’ Elementary Summer Reading Program, offered in conjunction with the Plymouth Public Library’s program, “Tails and Tales.” Research shows that frequent independent reading has a direct correlation to reading achievement and improves vocabulary and writing skills. We also encourage parents to read with their child, as reading aloud is another powerful way to enhance vocabulary, model fluent and expressive reading, and build listening comprehension. The more students read, the better readers they become - and it is just plain fun too!

SUMMER

Despite the non-traditional path this school year took, your child has worked hard and acquired many new skills this year in math class. However, over the summer months, many of the strides your child made the previous year may be lost due to summer math inactivity. For this reason, we are happy to provide your child with summer math activities that will help them start the year off right!

HEALTHY PLYMOUTH HELP US IN THE GARDEN THIS SUMMER!

As part of a community-wide initiative to build edible gardens in our town, Healthy Plymouth and Terra Cura, Inc. are looking for garden helpers this summer at the Plymouth Schools. We invite you and your family to sign up for a week or two, 1-2 visits per week, to help water, weed, and harvest the raised garden beds. Hands-on training will be offered and a garden task sheet will be available. This year is again a little different at the school gardens. We are planting five gardens as community gardens and will be harvesting the produce for local food pantries and the summer lunch programs. We will be planting some of the school gardens as pollinator gardens. We will have volunteers available to harvest weekly any of the ripe produce from the food production gardens but please feel free to take some home for your family as well. Thank you in advance for your help and community spirit! Thanks so much and we are looking forward to having a bountiful and bee friendly year!

You are the Historian Investigating the First Thanksgiving BEGIN GAME

Plimoth Patuxet Museums has reimagined and redesigned "You Are the Historian: Investigating the First Thanksgiving," its popular interactive game that has entertained school-aged children and families for almost two decades! The game investigates the interactions between the Wampanoag people of Patuxet and colonists of Plymouth, known as the Pilgrims, through archaeological artifacts from the museum’s collections, primary source documents, and oral histories. "You Are The Historian" transports players to Patuxet and immerses them in a story of cultural change and persistence over 12,000 years. Warning! Magical time travel, an anonymous tipster, mysterious riddles, historic artifacts and mind-bending activities are just ahead.

Do you have what it takes to uncover the true history of Thanksgiving? Visit Plimoth Patuxet this summer! Learn more at plimoth.org.
