Julie Mazzoni, Business Centre Manager at Q store describes their function as a ‘one stop business shop’. Offering high security storage facilities, serviced offices, confidential shredding and document archiving services to name a few; it goes without saying that Q Store certainly does have everything a business person may need, conveniently under one roof. We sit down with Julie to learn a little more.

Julie explains that they already had the means to do so; the offices were in place and the workshop areas were perfect to offer storage facilities. Fast forward to today, Q Store offers an extensive range of services - not only a variety of storage options, but a comprehensive Business Centre complete with serviced offices, meeting rooms, Confidential Shredding facilities, secure document archiving, business addresses and post boxes. “Our Storage facilities are 24 hour access, with 24 hour security measures in place” Julie explains. “We have CCTV surveillance across the entire site, and

each individual container is alarmed with a personal client pass code”. Ranging from 11-140 sq ft, the possibilities are endless. From moving house right up to boat and car storage, Q Store are extremely flexible to your needs. “We’ve done everything we can to keep our prices as competitive as possible, so you never pay more than you have to. We won’t make you sign long term contracts or pay huge deposits upfront. Our transparent pricing structure means everything you need is included- there will be no nasty surprises!”

Q Store offer a number of bolt on services such as racking and shelving, document management, delivery dispatch and receipt and plenty more. This means that the client can pick and chose elements that suit their situation, creating a truly tailored business storage plan.

Q

Store was established in October 2011 and Julie Mazzoni, Centre Manager has been with the company since its inception. “I was previously working in manufacturing when I was unfortunately made redundant after 21 years. I made the move to Saltash to work for a shop fitting company at this location, when this ceased trading I was asked to head up the new business centre/storage facility”.

The comprehensive Business Centre, with fully serviced offices and meeting rooms, with private spaces enabling groups of up to 20 people - you can rent a serviced office from as little as £250 + VAT a month. Whether you are a travelling business person who may need to pop in for an hour; or a fully operational business needing a serviced office 24/7- Q Store can help with this, and everything in between. “We provide you with all your office needs at short notice in a great value and transparent fashion. Our flexible office space can be created to suit any sort of working pattern, style, or office layout. They can be yours when you need them, as large as you need them, for as long as you need them!”

We are currently offering 50% off any sized internal storage unit for the first 8 weeks; and also 50% off any sized serviced office for the first 8 weeks.

10 August 2018

Call OM Plymouth Magazine 01752 691007

All serviced offices come with free onsite refreshments and a communal social space, free Wi-Fi, use of printers and scanners, comfortable furniture, light heating and water in a clean working space and free parking. There are also meeting rooms with HD TV’s, stationary on a pay as you go basis, and a telephone line if needed. Julie explains that alongside the services offices, Q Store can also supply additional services such as document archiving and confidential shredding. Confidential waste is defined as any personal information that can be used to identify individuals, including their name, contact details or financial data. Ensuring you are disposing of this in the correct way is extremely important when it comes to the recent GDPR regulations, and protecting your client’s personal information.

www.omplymouthmagazine.co.uk

Q Store offer collection and disposal services of your confidential waste- alongside the option of a rentable secure console for your office space.

“Simply fill the provided shredding sacks or console with your documents- we will then come and collect it for you, or alternatively you can bring it to us”. The shredding consoles are new to Q Store, explains Julie. “They are more secure due to the GDPR updates. Once you place the paper in, you are unable to reach your hand back in to take anything out, it’s secure via lock and key”.

Julie explains that due to the recent data protection changes, a lot of businesses are having a ‘cleanse’ and are in need of their services. “Law states you can’t keep any unnecessary documents and if you own a business you know how endless the paper trail gets. We have gained a lot of business recently for the confidential shredding and we are now finding that they are staying with us for regular collections, on a weekly or monthly service”.

Confidential shredding starts from just £7.75 + VAT- and all waste is fully recycled. Julie explains that the waste is shredded and once the process is complete the original documents are so finely shredded they are completely unreadable. “It is so important to dispose of your waste correctly. We have the right qualifications and certificates to ensure this is done in a professional and efficient manner”.

Speaking to Julie, it is clear that the staff will bend over backwards to ensure the client is 100% satisfied with the service they receive. They are truly flexible with the facilities on offer, with no tied in contracts or nasty surprises.

Another branch to the Q Store Business Centre is Document Archiving and ‘Scan on Demand’. “Document storage can take over your office space very quickly. We are here to free up that space and to take a weight off your shoulders” Says Julie. Archiving starts from as little as 10p+ VAT per box per week. The boxes will be logged and placed on a secure archiving rack with 24 hour surveillance. “We are data protection compliance accredited, so you are safe in the knowledge that your documents are secure with us”.

As a business, you may need access to your documents regularly. Q Store offer a ‘scan on demand’ service enabling a quick and easy way to view your documentswherever you are. “We have a high quality scanner, its picture perfect! Simply email us with your request, we can search for it on our system and send you the scanned document via a secure portal”. We ask Julie what the biggest challenge is when it comes to being Centre Manager. After some deliberation, the answer is surprising! “The biggest challenge for me is getting people over the bridge - erasing that mindset that Saltash is out of the way. If potential clients could see what we have to offer, I would like to think that they would see it isn’t a problem”.

Looking to the future, Julie explains that they currently have a 5000 sq ft space on site to potentially increase the storage facilities. “We have also been looking at potential locations for another branch of Q Store, although these are certainly not concrete plans, yet! Cornwall has an open market for what we offer, so it would be nice to venture further down the line”. With customer feedback reflecting the tailored, friendly service that Q Store pride themselves on- there is no doubt that this business will continue to grow, and Julie’s vision for another branch will be realised. If you are a business person in need of their services, please see the website below to take advantage of their current offer on Storage and Serviced offices.

paranormal or consider yourself a sceptic, there is no doubt that Bodmin Jail has an uneasy atmosphere, day or night.

Bodmin Jail has over 230 years of history, and more than 50 people have been executed within its walls since it was built in 1779. Kept in squalid conditions with little food and sunlight, and often subjected to hard labour, the jail is saturated with decades of negative energy. Its violent history makes it a prime location for ghost walks in Cornwall.

The ghost hunting team consisted of 19 people- including 11 Calendar Girl applicants, 2 film crew members and our very own photographer, Tom Coles. The girls were looked after by Resident medium Kirstin Honey, who has over 10 years experience in the field.

n Friday 6th July, the UK Calendar Girls took part in a sponsored Ghost Hunt at the infamous Bodmin Jail, one of the UK’s most haunted locations. The girls spent 8 terrifying hours in the jail with the resident medium, all in aid of raising money for The Chestnut Appeal for Prostate Cancer.

Some famous ghostly tales include that of Selena Wadge, who was executed for the murder of her child son. It is said that her spirit still haunts the Jail to this day- particularly drawn to young children and pregnant women, begging them for forgiveness. Whether you believe in the

The UK Calendar Girls braved the Jail after hours, returning to the living world at 5am. Gaining sponsorship from businesses all over the UK, the spooky night was all for a good cause; to raise money for the Chestnut Appeal.

The night kicked into action at 10pm. Kirstin outlined the fascinating history of the jail; giving the Ghost Hunters a walking tour. The execution pit- the only working pit in the UK was first on the agenda. Kirstin showed the team a list of ghastly crimes leading perpetrators to their demise- ranging from stealing a cow to murdering their own children.

techniques to contact any spirits. Tara Willis- a UK Calendar Girl applicant explains her experience “I wasn’t liked at the table! I felt like I was being pushed away and had an overwhelming negative feeling when we were in that room”. Glass divination is the act of placing your finger tip lightly onto an upturned glass and attempting to contact spirits. The head photographer, Tom Coles says “After watching the girls take part I have to admit I was sceptical at first, but I was curious to give it a go myself. After placing my finger on the glass and it started moving- I genuinely felt like there was something going on. It was moving round in circles so fast there was no way anyone could be pushing it”. The exercise came to an abrupt end when the glass flew off the table, smashing onto the floor. The ghost hunting continued into the early hours of the morning, with the team being able to explore the depths of the jail freely.

very pleased to be sponsoring the lovely Kayleigh Bent at the Bodmin Ghost Hunt!

Read what a few of the girls thought of their experience below:

“ “

Infrared cameras were set up throughout the building, to catch any ghostly goings on. At one point in the night- multiple spiritual apparitions, or Orbs, were seen darting across the screen when a member of the team placed his hands on the table. The highlight of the night for many was the Ouija board and the glass divination

I’ve always believed in spirits but been a little sceptical when it comes to Ouija boards, but I can honestly say there is no explanation for the things we saw and felt that night! I was expecting quite a scary experience but in all honesty its not - it’s more intriguing. There were roughly 5/6 people taking part in the Ouija board. We picked up on a brother and sister aged 8 & 9 who died at the jail and were lost. I could literally feel their energy throughout the ouija and the sadness they carried. I also took part in the glass divination. The spirit happened to be my dads great aunt who died in her 30s and estranged from my family due to life choices at a young age. As you can imagine, I felt a little on edge- she made it very clear it was me she wanted to connect with. Some things in life you really need to see to believe and now I’ve experienced it first hand its undeniable, I definitely believe it! - Jade Denny

As a resident medium for Bodmin Jail, Kirstin has seen her fair share of interesting activity. “I’ve seen people passing out, people walking into darkened rooms by themselves in a trance like state- mood changes, extreme panic and sudden feelings of nausea”.

At 01:40am, Kirstin led the ghost hunters in a number of workshops focussing on the basics of Reiki and energy management. Reiki is practiced in every country all over the world, and is defined as practicing healing energy through the hands. Kirstin had everyone pair up and stand with their hands close, but not touching. Focussing on the ‘energy’ held within themselves, some of the Ghost Hunters reported a tingling feeling, changes in temperature and being able to ‘feel’ their partners energy through their hands.

Where do I start?! What a fascinating evening! To start with I was terrified, unsure whether I could face my fears and stay the whole night in Bodmin jail, but everyone came together and helped me fight my fears! I have never experienced anything quite like it, from the Ouija board and the Glass Divination! Very spooky but honestly a great experience! - Megan Victoria

The Chestnut Appeal- Raising awareness of Men’s Cancers R

aising awareness of Men’s Cancers is at the heart of everything we do and we aim to make a marked difference to men’s health across the region.

The Chestnut Appeal was founded in 1999 at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth and has since gone on to be at the forefront of prostate cancer care right across the region. We support the very latest in treatments and technology that wouldn’t be available without community fundraising and we rely on donations from the public. Over the years we’ve realised that Men’s Health suffers from an imbalance and at the core of our work is highlighting this most common cancer in men, as well as Prostate Cancer, we also raise awareness of Testicular Cancer and Penile Cancer, two other quite treatable cancers that sadly if left can be devastating.

The Chestnut Appeals most recent campaign has been to bring a new way of scanning to the area, to make diagnosis of prostate cancer quicker and easier. The Ultrasound-MRI Fusion Scanner will really make a difference and we have been able to purchase the first Scanner now in place at Derriford Hospital. The aim of the Chestnut Appeal in 2018 is to provide the Royal Cornwall Hospital and Torbay Hospital with Ultrasound-MRI Fusion Scanners.

At a cost of £105,000 each we really do need your help in fundraising this year. We believe it is vital to get more men talking about their health and taking action when they feel like something could be wrong. We also run a local support group: The Plymouth Prostate Cancer Support Group meet on the last Thursday of each month between 6.30pm – 7.30pm at the Green Taverners Marquee at Plymouth Argyle Football Club where there is ample and Free Parking. The success of the Chestnut Appeal is a testament to what can be achieved if we work together as a community. Over the coming years we aim to improve these vital services and do much more in the area, helping reach more of the community.

If you would like to take part in one of the charities fundraising swims then please visit www.chestnutappeal.org.uk The annual 4km Plymouth Breakwater Swim will take place on Sunday 5th August. A week later on Saturday 11th its the 2.6km St Michaels Mount swim and in September; 1.75km Looe Island swim will take place on 9th and finally the 1.6km swim around Burgh Island on 23rd. “We would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all the wonderful Sponsors that supported the Ghost Hunters event for the UK Calendar Girls and

a huge thank you to everyone that participated in the event, your help and support was much appreciated and we look forward to seeing the video from the night. Good luck to all the finalist in the 2018 competition.”

Bennett Wealth Planning is a boutique family business offering bespoke private client wealth management and ongoing financial advice to its clients. Working together at their Yelverton based branch, ‘Team Bennett’ have grown and re-branded with major enhancements since we last spoke, but their tight knit family dynamic remains unchanged.

Family is what defines Bennett Wealth Planning. Consisting of two fully qualified Wealth Managers, Stockbrokers and Financial Planners, Barry Bennett and eldest son, Simon Bennett; Operations Manager and Apprentice Advisoryoungest son Henry Bennett; Daughter, Natasha Bennett is Marketing Manager and Karen Bennett is HR Manager and overall trouble shooter! Barry is experienced and qualified to offer professional advice being both a Chartered

Financial Planner, the industry “gold” standard, a Stockbroker (aka “The Dartmoor Stockbroker”) and a Chartered Wealth Manager. He is also Fellow of both the Personal Finance Society and the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investments and a graduate of Queens’ College, Cambridge.

Simon and Henry Bennett

“Team Bennett” recently took the significant positive step to become directly authorised by the FCA as an Independent Financial Planning and Wealth Management company. The refreshing family rebrand gives the business a modern and contemporary look; with subtle nods to the family’s strong educational backgrounds. Barry explains that the colours used in the new logo design reflect that of the Universities where they studied. “The clean cut and simple logo style reflects our “added value” approach which aims to provide positive client-centred outcomes simply and cost effectively”.

At the core of this unique, bespoke family brand is the belief that the client is central to everything we do. By aligning the client’s finances with their goals and listening to their objectives; We can create bespoke tailor made flexible financial plans with quality, blended, global, ‘total return’ investments from the best of breed from the whole of the market.

Simon, Barry’s eldest son, with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering (Bath), has also qualified as a Financial Planner,

“I’ve grown up watching my father do this job honourably, helping his clients make their money work harder for them to achieve their goals”. Simon explains that he feels incredibly fortunate to have the benefit of his father’s experience to draw upon during his professional development.

Stockbroker and Chartered Wealth Manager. “The industry sometimes has a stigma attached to it - due to past experiences some clients we encounter may have had. We are looking to change our clients perceptions of this”.

I do not see myself as an Advisor, I still see myself as a Chemical Engineer. I follow the same thought process I was trained to. I think of this as a process and see it as my job is to optimise and simplify the path for the client – culminating in getting the best possible outcome in meeting the client’s goals.

ennett Wealth Planning offers a personalised value -added comprehensive advisory service to clients throughout the South West. Focussing on aligning the client’s finances with their long- term goals, the fully managed service offered by Bennett Wealth Planning is designed for clients who do not want to manage their portfolio but do wish to have the final say in all the decisions.

Henry Bennett, Simon’s younger brother, has also gained practical operational business experience with the intention of following the same path over the next few years. Following on from his three years in London gaining his Banking Practice and Management Bachelor’s degree, Henry is the businesses Operations Manager. “I now have to go through the education and qualification process as my brother to become a client facing Financial Planner, Stockbroker and Wealth Manager myself”. Simon and Henry explain the importance of the strong, long term, ongoing client relationships which is fundamental to how they add value for their clients at Bennett Wealth Planning. “We work at growing strong long-term relationships with our clients. Right from our initial meetings we listen and engage so we understand what our future clients can expect from us. We let them know what we can control and equally what we cannot control. We find our clients like to know how we work together as a family unit to enhance and add value to their plans through our processes to achieve positive outcomes for their benefit”. Simon, Natasha and Henry are now keen to take the long- term approach and

introduce a new younger demographic to experience the benefits of financial planning. Simon states: “My father is extremely good with existing clients; there is a strong relationship there and mutual respect. I see one of the roles in the business is to target younger people like myself to see the value of having in place a financial plan aligned with their needs. Hard working people who need advice and guidance, who need that help moving forward. It’s not easy for our generation in the current environment - I think that is a fair statement”.

It has always been our intention to be a forward thinking, independent and technologically innovative financial planning and investment management family business. Our intergenerational boutique business is now ready to continue its growth and realise this goal.

the next 3 years, working towards taking on the role of another advisor within the business.

Bennett Wealth Planning delivers a bespoke, tailored and personalised service cost effectively. The essential part of their process is their friendly ongoing client engagement to produce positive outcomes which they find helps their clients evolve greater confidence adding to enhance quality of life when their money works harder for them. Barry says an often ‘hidden benefit’ of professional advice is that: “Interestingly we have found a significant improvement in the general ‘peace of mind’ and ‘sense of well-being’ in the client’s attitude and confidence towards their own money which acts as a positive intangible beneficial side-effect. Surprisingly this contrasts with their

earlier feelings (before they engaged with us) which were an odd combination of concern, uncertainty, mystery, worry and even with some elements of guilt with their attitude towards their own money in that they suspected and felt that they were not making the best use of it in terms of their outcomes and the impact on their own ‘quality of life’.” Simon summarises by stating “Team Bennett are in this for the long run. We are here to look after our clients and to help bring their goals to fruition. Working as a family has its strengths - we all bring something different to the business that helps to drive it forward with the focus to improve the experience for our clients. This is in our DNA and will continue to be the case”. Barry and Simon offer a free initial consultation without obligation to see if they might be able to be of help individuals seeking better outcomes with their money. RADIO PLYMOUTH SUPPORT ARMED FORCES DAY R

adio Plymouth was once again proud to be involved in broadcasting live from Armed Forces Day on Plymouth Hoe. In blazing sunshine on 30th June, thousands of military personnel gathered with aircraft, historic vehicles, and challenges for the family. Breakfast Show host Jon White, News Editor Sam Cook and the rest of the Radio Plymouth team were based in the Veterans’ Village, alongside our sponsors from Otter Garden Centres.

We interviewed a variety of service personnel from across the forces, as well as cadets, charities and ex-services associations.

We spoke to Ian Chudley with the Royal Navy’s Sea King helicopter, making its final appearance in Devon. Drivetime Presenter Neil had a look round one of the RAF’s Puma helicopters on a break from service in Afghanistan.

Sam tried on a very heavy full army ground kit, and Neil caught up with some historical weapons enthusiasts, and chatted to some youngsters competing in the junior field gun competitions. Radio Plymouth’s Lighthouse Crew met thousands of listeners across the day; our children’s transfer tattoos were a popular crowd pleaser!

Muscle Pitts team biplane and the Fireflies Aerobatic Display Team. Neil hosted the evening entertainment featuring a wide variety of live music, watched by thousands. From barbershop to Freddie Mercury, Military Wives to swing and soul; all tastes were catered for in a great family atmosphere.

Always keen to be entertaining and competitive, Sam was challenged to scale the Army’s climbing wall. An optimist would say he almost got to the top!

The rain came, but it didn’t dampen spirits at the 2018 Drake’s Island Swim - The Chestnut Appeal

T

he unexpected cloud that produced rain and more rain, made the 2018 Drakes Island Swim, our 24th charity swim, by far the wettest. But spirits were certainly not dampened and the event was a brilliant success. “Firestone Bay is a super location and a great place to swim. The backdrop of Drakes Island and the Royal William Yard make it a great place to hold such an event”said David Squires Events Manger at the Chestnut Appeal.

90 swimmers took to the water early on Sunday morning for the annual Drakes Island swim in aid of the Chestnut Appeal for Men’s Health. With the safety team in place and the sea as calm as you could wish for, the first of the swimmers set off at a cracking pace. The swim to the Island and back is around 1.5km in distance and is ideal for any one new to Open Water Swim events. And just over 23 minutes later the first swimmer was back on the beach. The Drakes Island swim is one of a number of swims organised by the Chestnut Appeal across the summer which have proven to be great fundraisers for the charity.

To date the 2018 Drakes Island Swim has raised over £7,000 for the charity. The money raised from the Drakes Island swim will go towards the purchase of an Ultrasound-MRI Fusion Scanner to be placed at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. The Drakes Island swim is our curtainraiser for a series of summer swims. Next

up is the Breakwater swim followed by the St Michaels Mount swim; both in August and then in September, we have Looe Island and Burgh Island. David Squires added “We would like to thank all those who took part in this years swim. All the volunteers who got up very early, Kelvin and Steven from the Devils Point Café and the safety team; Event Water Safety. To Tom Coles who juggled umbrella and camera and got some great photos of the day. Thank you all.”
