DURASQUARE: STRIKING, PRECISE,RECTANGULAR; YET SOFT AND FLOWING The DuraSquare ceramics effortlessly bring together apparent contradictions whilst also looking incredibly good. Clarity, precision and minimalism run through the entire programme, which is not only modern and timeless but also sustainable & durable. Stylish: The washbasins feature parallel lines made from the innovative material DuraCeram®, precise rims can be created that are just five mm thick. This maximises the size of the basin, which is also easier to clean.
Architectonic design: The above-counter basin is also available with a glazed back and all-round rim and can therefore be positioned directly in front of a mirror. Also suitable for smaller rooms: The subtle shapes of the ceramic and console of the handrinse basin create particular transparency and lightness. To complete a bathroom, it needs matching accessories. Towel rail, towel ring, brush set or paper holder are indispensable. Duravit offers a wide range of universal bathroom accessories for you to chose from. New metal console: add the finishing touch to the DuraSquare range. Available in modern matt
black or chrome, they lighten the appearance with a cool finish. Whether floor-standing or wall-mounted, the practical glass shelf creates even more storage space. The range of different colours can be used to add an individual touch. Sustainable in terms of design and material: The bathtubs are made from the innovative cast mineral material DuraSolid® and
harmonise perfectly with the washbasin design. Whether as a free standing, built-in, back-to-wall or corner version, the bathtubs offer impressively precise lines and a pleasantly warm feel.

Still Window Cleaning LTD truly are a family business. Starting out as Fred Still with a bucket and a sponge in 1982 - the business has grown throughout the years to offer their professional window cleaning services to over 650 loyal clients. We catch up with Father and Daughter team, Fred and Emma Still to learn a little more about their background.
“I carried on like that for many years, I saw there was potential. With window cleaning, you are constantly on your feet, the physical activity was great to rehabilitate my back injury. Who needed the gym!?”
“I tried to do whatever I could to get by and after recommendation from a friend, the idea of becoming a window cleaner was put in front of me”.
Fast forward to 2006, Fred has a brand new van and is now trading as ‘Still Cleaning’. Fred was one of the first local companies to be fully kitted out with a ‘Pure water’ system, an innovative way of window cleaning that filtered out any natural minerals and solids, resulting in crystal clear glass once dried.
“
Fred found that he could get up and down a ladder without causing unnecessary strain to his back, and he started out with a few
“
In 1981, Fred made a living installing Rayburns and sweeping chimneys until he suffered damage to his back during a particularly nasty car accident. “I was 27 years old with three children at the time, it took me over 6 months to recover and it was certainly a low point in my life, not being able to work and provide for my family”.
Fred and his wife have five children in total, the eldest being Business Partner and Director- Emma Still. Emma joined Fred in February 2016, initially to help him out part time.
Emma and Fred Still
“Before I joined dad, I chose the corporate life and worked within the financial services industry for 15 years. After this I moved into marketing for large companies such as BT and Yell”. Emma also has valuable experience in health and safety and employment law. After a number of jobs in a short period of time following redundancy from Yell, Emma realised that the employment market in the South West at the time wasn’t great so she decided to spend her time helping Fred build his business. “As children, we all helped dad out to get a bit of pocket money, window cleaning has always been in our family. Dad and I sat down one day over lunch and at this point I’d been assisting in the company quite a bit. Coming from a business background I thought well, where is dad going with this?”

local window cleaning jobs to keep him going. “I had an old Fiesta with a roof rack for the ladder. People just knew me as Fred the window cleaner, I had no branding, no business cards - just me, a bucket, a sponge and a ladder!”
red Still has been in the Window Cleaning business for over 35 years. After slowly improving his services over time - Fred enlisted the help of family members to go one step further. Together with his daughter; Emma, the pair have worked tirelessly to build Still Window Cleaning Ltd to the success it is today.
Putting their heads together, the pair realised they has great foundations to build the business into something bigger. Emma became full time and in May 2016 a second van was added to the fleet. Fred explains that it was a huge change for him, but it was the best thing they could have done. “Running a business on your own, the way you’ve been used to for 34 years- and then having it all change was definitely tough”. “To be honest I wasn’t 100% behind it in the beginning because I was still dragging my heels in the past. But seeing the business now, I am so glad we put in the hard work”.

“Take Gutter Vacuuming for example, most jobs need scaffolding due to health and safety. We can overcome this as we can reach four storeys high and remotely clean the interior of the gutter, preventing damage to the property and overflowing issues. No scaffolding, no ladders”. In January 2017, Still Windows Cleaning introduced an app on their individual phones to keep track of their jobs. This was a world away from Fred’s old school pen and paper diary but he admits it has been a life saver since the company has grown in popularity. “This not only makes it easier for us but for our clients too. They know exactly when we are going to turn up for the
“There is no confusion over missed payments, and it reduces the need for money chasing if the client isn’t home at the time. We are becoming a cashless society, sometimes the client has paid before we’ve even finished the job! Each invoice is itemised so we both know the exact cost breakdown and the account balance”.
“
We are very customer focussed, and being productive and organised is as much for our clients benefits as it is ours. We are completely transparent when it comes to our costs and we strive to offer a professional, reliable service that you can trust. Due to growing demand, Fred and Emma employed family friend, Jimmy, in June of this year. Jimmy explains that he feels incredibly lucky to be able to call himself a part of the Still Window Cleaning team and it’s great to learn invaluable skills from someone like Fred. “Both Fred and Emma are amazing bosses and this is the first time I’ve been proud of my job. The best part is working for Fred and seeing his passion even after 35 years. He has so much knowledge and is willing to teach others. You couldn’t ask for a better mentor he’s so relaxed and patient and makes you feel at ease with his friendly banter!”

Still Window Cleaning offer both commercial and domestic window cleaning services as well as fascias and uPVC, gutter vacuuming and conservatories. Fred explains that technology within the industry is always moving forward making their job easier and more effective.
next job”. Fred explains that they have also updated their payment system, which means a more efficient service for everyone.
“
“
“
Eager to have a strong identity, Emma and Fred set about designing a logo and building a brand. With the focus being on a family business since 1982 - Still Window Cleaning Services Ltd was created.
In March 2016, Still Window Cleaning Services had a respectable 226 customers on their books. Now- due to the huge amount of hard work they have put into the family business, they have a fleet of 3 fully kitted out vans, 3 full time employees and over 650 loyal clients. Emma explains that due to the ever growing demand; herself, Jimmy and Fred are looking to recruit another member to their passionate and hardworking team. “We want to ensure we retain a personal and manageable service but we would also like to expand our reach”. Still Window Cleaning currently cover Plymouth, Totnes, Dartmouth, the South
Hams, Tavistock and the Moors. They are looking to take on more customers, particularly in the corridor linking Plymouth to Totnes along with an additional team member and are happy to train up anyone who feels they are right for the job! Looking to the future, Fred explains that he would eventually love to taper down his involvement and hand the business over to his daughter Emma. “Emma has given me a great relief. She has a great grounding, a path has to be followed to make a successful business and she knows exactly how to do that”. Still Window Cleaning realise the power of Social media when it comes to advertising their services, and their Facebook page gives a great feel for the company ethos. West Country Financial based in Tavistock, will be celebrating their 20th anniversary in December of this year. The well established team of Financial Advisors have a combined experience of over 200 years- and are proud to be offering their clients a personal and professional service throughout Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and further afield. We sit down with some of the team to find out a little more. Principal, Mike James
“When I was younger I worked in men’s outfitting. I made the move to the financial industry to better my career. I loved dealing with people, and I liked the idea of trying to advise something that you couldn’t physically touch - an intangible so to speak”. The challenge of advising on something that could potentially make people’s lives better such as a pension plan or an
Wanting to create a more client focused business, Mike left the company he was working for at the time and West Country Financial was established in December 1998. “The hardest part was the fact I had no track record on running my own business, so proving to people that you are someone to rely on was a challenge, but I had my previous experience to back me up”. West Country Financial quickly grew from strength to strength, adding half a dozen new staff members in its first year of operation. Fast forward to today, the business now consists of over 15 staff members who can confidently and professionally deliver valuable advice on a vast range of subjects.

est Country Financial consists of a large team of independent Financial Advisors, including a specialist corporate section. Their combined wealth of knowledge means that they are one of the largest financial organisations in the South West.
Offering advice to both existing and potential clients, West Country Financial have qualified advisors that deal with pensions, investment, equity release, mortgages, tax planning and healthcare to name a few. John Stanbrook, Westcountry Financials’ longest standing Independent Financial Advisor - explains that the majority of their services are tailored to most demographic groups, and their target market is best described as ‘from the cradle to the grave’. Our services are not just for the wealthy. You can take out a pension from 1 year old and many grandparents like to set this up as a gift for their families, for example. The majority of our clients come from word of mouth or referrals from professional connections. Elaborating on the importance of pensions in today’s society- John and fellow IFA Vicki Swann, who is one of the most qualified lady advisers in the area, tell us that most people have a need for financial advice, they just don’t realise it. “People need financial protection. Once you’ve explained to somebody how vulnerable they are regarding life cover or critical illness cover for examplethere is going to be a shortfall should something go wrong. This then becomes a need, and people don’t identify that until they come and speak to us” explains Vicki. Vicki Swann specialises in Financial Tax Planning and Final Salary Transfers- a specialist pension service. “The government has stepped up to what is fast becoming a crisis for the country in terms of funding retirement” Says Vicki. “The Auto Enrolment Schemes which are effectively forcing people to pay into a retirement fund can only be a good thing, but what happens when you are self employed, or in a situation where you can’t be auto enrolled?” Vicki and John explain that the team at West Country Financial have access to a range of personal pension products, tailored to suit your individual needs. Using a holistic approach to your finances, West Country Financial are able to see the bigger picture when it comes to future planning; offering an overview of the different options you have and the best way to enjoy your retirement with peace of mind.

they are being advised by someone who has a proven commitment to the ethical standards set by the industry.
There are two types of advisors in the industry - Restricted and Independent. The team at West Country Financial and of course, any other independent advisory service are completely unbiased and impartial in the advice they give you. West Country Financial offer a free no obligation initial consultation to anyone who feels they need the team’s professional advice. They are happy to visit you at your own home or office space, or alternatively you can visit them at their office in Tavistock. The office access is disability friendly and all the staff have been trained to be “Dementia Aware”. The Financial Industry isn’t without its challenges - as Mike and the team explain. “Perhaps the most challenging aspect is keeping up with ongoing changes with Compliance and new products. “At West Country Financial we overcome this by working closely with the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority)”. Mike and the Team also have their own in house Compliance Manager, to ensure they are up to date at all times. Looking to the future, Mike explains that he is definitely looking to expand the team, with the focus being on the younger generation. “The average age

of an advisor is currently 57 years old. There is a real issue in the industry when it comes to employing young people, so the focus going forward would be to ‘grow our own”. “The main attributes we look for in a potential employee is to be trustworthy and have quality knowledge. Perseverance in a sometimes challenging training process shows character and that would be the kind of person that would fit in well here” explains Mike. I have been working in the Hairdressing Industry since I was 13 years old. I did an apprenticeship at the age of 16 as soon as I left school, because I couldn’t wait to start! After working at a Plymstock based salon for the past 7 years, I am excited to be a part of Halo’s amazing, talented team and I can’t wait to see what the future brings!

SEASONAL
Recipe ideas
With winter just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to warm up with comfort food classics made with November’s seasonal ingredients.
Honey mustard chicken with roasted vegetables
slow cooker chili
peeled and cubed butternut squash, 2 carrots, 1 parsnip, 1 small sweet potato, 1 red onion, 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1/4 tsp ground black pepper, 4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts, 1/2 cup chicken stock, 1/4 cup white wine, 2 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp wholegrain mustard
1 tbsp olive oil, lean mince beef, 1 medium red onion, peeled and diced, 4 cloves of garlic, minced, 1 chipotle chilli, 2 cans dark red kidney beans, rinsed and drained, 2 cans tomato sauce, 2 cans diced tomatoes, 1 can light red kidney beans, 1 can chopped green chillies, 1 cup beef broth, 2 tbsp chili powder, 1 tbsp ground cumin, salt, pepper and sugar to taste
ONE Preheat the oven to 220 degrees C. Combine the vegetables in a bowl, add 2tbsp olive oil, rosemary, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1/4 tsp pepper and stir to coat. Spread vegetable mix in a single layer onto a baking sheet in the oven. Roast vegetables for 15 mins, stir and continue roasting until tender- about 15 minutes more.
Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add the beef mince, onion and garlic and cook for about 7-10 minutes or until the beef is completely browned. Drain and discard the excess fat. Then transfer the beef into the bottom of a slow cooker.
two Pound chicken to 1/2 inch thickness on a work surface, season with 1/4 tsp salt and pepper to taste. Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat; cook chicken well and transfer to a bowl.
Add the remaining ingredients, and stir to combine. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours. Taste, and season with additional salt and pepper or seasonings if need be. Serve warm, with desired toppings.
three Pour chicken broth and wine into the same skillet and bring to a boil while scraping the browned bits of food of the bottom of the pan with a spoon, about 2 minutes. four Stir honey and mustard into the wine mixture; add chicken and turn the pieces until coated. Serve chicken alongside roasted vegetables.
