Guacamole Ingredients:

4 Ripe Avocados,1 Lime, juiced with some pulp, 3 Tablespoons Diced Jalapeño pepper, 1/4-1/2 Teaspoon Salt 1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper,1/4 Teaspoon Garlic Powder,1/2 Cup Cilantro, chopped.

How to Make:

Let it reduce and thicken, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasonings to your liking sweetness, spice level, salt, etc. Liberally brush both sides of the mushrooms with the sauce and let them marinade for at least 15 minutes, up to 30. Heat broiler or grill, cook mushrooms, flipping halfway through. Grill should be a few minutes per side. When mushrooms are done cooking, brush with more sauce and serve with whatever fixings you like.

Remove the peel and pit from each avocado and place in a medium bowl. Gently mash with a fork, leaving it a little chunky. Squeeze the juice and some pulp from one lime onto the avocados. Then sprinkle on salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir well. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.

Dairy Free Fu

dgesickles

bbq portobello sliders Ingredients:

4 portobello mushroom caps buns of your choice fixings of your choice: (sprouts, onion, tomato avocado, Vegan cheese, etc)

For the sauce:

1 teaspoon olive oil ¼ onion, grated 1 clove of garlic, minced ¾ cup ketchup 2 tablespoons dijon mustard 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons maple syrup 1 tablespoon of Maggi Sauce ½ to 1 teaspoon sriracha or hot sauce salt and pepper, to taste.

How to Make:

Make the sauce. In a small saucepan, heat oil. Add onion and garlic. Stir in the rest of the ingredients. If the mixture is not already bubbling, increase heat. 10

Dairy Free Fudge sickles Ingredients:

2 avocados (remove pit and skin) 3/4 cup + 1 Tablespoon of Cocoa Powder (Hershey’s special dark is my favourite!) 1/3 cup non dairy milk. 4 teaspoon salt, 2 Tablespoon vanilla extract. 1/4 cup agave.

How to Make:

Combine all ingredients in food processor until smooth. Use a piping bag to get filling into the moulds (to avoid a mess). Tap the containers so that the air bubbles pop. Stick in the freezer overnight, or until they freeze. If your fudge sickles are hard to remove from their containers, run the popsickle mold under hot water briefly and the fudgesickles will come loose.

How does a phoenix work We’ve all seen it happen a company goes into liquidation then springs up again the next day trading at the same place with the same staff and assets, using a similar name and carries on as if nothing has happened. This is commonly known as a “phoenix”. On the face of it, a phoenix can look very unfair but if the directors have acted on professional advice it can be perfectly legal. The directors can buy back the assets from the Liquidator as long as payment is physically made and the price is at (or above) market value. There can be serious issues for the directors if they want to reuse a similar name of the old company as there are rules in place that Directors must follow in order to avoid a criminal offence. Of course the above is all well and good but who’s to say that a phoenix will work? Before starting again the directors will have a whole host of practical things to consider going forward with the new business like what were the issues that caused the old business to become insolvent and can these be corrected second time around and will the landlord, bank, suppliers, staff and customers be prepared to support the new

business? If you are a director of a company that may be insolvent and you want to start again you need to take great care before you start the process and take proper professional advice. Do not to transfer any assets or reuse the old business name without seeking that advice from licensed insolvency practitioner like me.

Call me on 01752 786800 to set up a free initial confidential meeting to discuss your options. I won’t bite, I promise!

Anne Shears Solicitor

Should you ‘Google’ your getaway? Anne Shears, a Solicitor with The Family Law Company in Plymouth looks at the pros and cons of getting divorced via an online service. In a world where digital communication is commonplace there are increasing numbers of companies offering an online divorce service. With some advertising a divorce for as little as £37 and promising a quick divorce, it is easy to understand the temptation to choose this route rather than approach a specialist family lawyer. However, careful research must be undertaken to avoid future difficulties and unnecessary charges. For example, the cheapest service may only provide you with copies of the Court documentation, which can be obtained free from the Court anyway. It takes a little digging to learn that the advertised price does not include the Court fee of £410. Some websites say the divorce can be completed ‘within a matter of weeks’. In reality, although the procedure is usually straightforward provided both parties co-operate, it will take time. There may be very good reasons not to finalise the divorce as soon as you are able to - for example to preserve pension rights whilst future financial arrangements are agreed and implemented. The Petitioner (the person asking for the divorce) sends a divorce petition to the Court. Provided it has been filled out correctly, the petition is then sent to the Respondent who must complete an Acknowledgment of Service and return it to the Court. Once the Petitioner receives a copy of the Acknowledgement, they complete a statement and make an application for Decree Nisi. If both parties co-operate fully it might be possible to get to this stage within about 4 weeks.Provided all is in order, the Court then sets a date for pronouncement of the Decree Nisi – usually two to three weeks after the application is made. Once the Decree Nisi has been pronounced, the six week period between Decree Nisi and Decree Absolute kicks in.So, even when both parties co-operate fully it is unlikely that a divorce will be concluded within less than three months. It is not uncommon for people who have just separated to want to get divorced and move on with their lives as quickly as possible, not least because many find separation such a painful experience - but unless there is complete co-operation between the parties, there are potentially many issues along the way that will cause difficulty without specialist guidance. It is important to 18

understand that an online service is unlikely to provide the essential, specialist advice required to fully deal with the many complex issues that come with separation, such us how the money will be divided up, who will live in the house, or where the children are going to live. If you choose to use an on-line provider, you should understand that the majority do not have professional indemnity insurance and are operating without regulation. The risk here is that if something should go wrong, there will be no recourse through a regulator. Although you will have paid the company’s charges you may not have the promised result and it may then still be necessary for a specialist divorce lawyer to become involved to unpick what has been badly done. This could prove to be even more emotionally challenging and expensive than if the specialist had been involved from the start.Arguably, online divorce has its place. If you have only been married for a very short period of time, with completely separate finances and no children, it may be right for you. Similarly, there is also a place for a ‘DIY divorce’ - some couples very successfully conduct their divorce themselves. These people, though, are likely to seek specialist advice when it comes to matters concerning the finances or the children. What is crucial in resolving matters after separation is for both parties to have the time and advice to make informed decisions. Choices made during this very emotional and difficult time will have an impact on both parties’ future. The Family Law Company will support you through what can be a minefield for the unwary and ill-informed. We have trained experts to assist you with resolving finances, including pensions, and arrangements for your children. We offer a very reasonable fixed fee divorce service, which makes all of the costs, including the Court fee, clear upfront, helping to ensure that the divorce process is as stress free and swift as possible.

or those of you who know Refurnish we are a charity that’s takes great pride in the work we do. We are here to help people on low incomes and reduce waste within your local community. The charity aims to help everyone including those who are trying to set up home for the first time and may be struggling to furnish on a low budget. We rely on your kind donations to keep us going and these generous gifts can be passed on at a greatly reduced rate for everyone to enjoy. We offer an extra 20% discount on all our stock if you are in receipt of benefits and a full list of these can be found on our website www.refurnish.org.uk. Donating couldn’t be easier, all you have to do is call our friendly staff using the central number on 01752 927002 and select the number of the branch you would like to talk to.

car seats as office chairs and many more up-cycling ideas in which we can reuse the items you donate. We have to say no to a lot of furniture and appliances on the grounds of condition or lack of fire labels but if we can take them apart and make new items then it’s going to make a big impact your local community’s waste. We are currently busy applying for grants in order to help our ideas grow and put together a team of enthusiastic volunteers with skills in carpentry, Upholstery, painting and decorating. We are looking for people with a passion for all things creative and have some time to donate. If you would like to get involved in the planning of the new workshop and suggest some ideas we can try we would also love to hear from you. This is a project which we really want to involve the local community in and it’s important to everyone that rubbish is seen in a new light. All the products made will be for sale at our Wrangaton branch initially and we will look at sending these to our other shops once the workshop is established.

We will ask you a few simple questions and book you in for a free collection of your unwanted furniture and electrical goods. The new Wrangaton Head quarters (just outside of the a38, south off the Brent junction – follow the Wrangaton signs) will have workshop space on a mezzanine level for furniture repairs and upholstery work. We are planning to up a new workshop in which both staff and volunteers can work together and explore how items can be reused.

So if you have any spare time or skills that you would like to use or share with our other volunteers and staff then please email David at davidbanks@refurnish.org.uk or visit www.refurnish.org.uk and tell us why and how you would like to get involved in this exciting new project.

The workshop is looking at lots of creative ideas including the reuse of pallets as garden furniture, luxury Please mention The Plympton Community Magazine when responding to adverts
