Independent Plymouth Garage Under New Management Mark Russell, the Managing Director of a successful Plymouth based marketing company, has recently purchased independent garage Marshall Motors LTD with fellow businessman Darren Brockman, who brings with him over 15 years of motor trade experience to the ownership.
M
arshall Motors SW LTD is currently offering customers a selection of discounts to celebrate the garage being under new management. Independent garage, Marshall Motors LTD, which has over 30 years of dedicated experience under its belt, is under new ownership. The business, which prides itself on offering unrivalled services, MOTs and mechanical repairs to its customers around Plymouth, has recently been purchased by two local businessmen, Mark Russell and Darren Brockman, who are currently offering customers a selection of discounts to celebrate the takeover.
“Not only has Mark been personally highly commended as a local entrepreneur by several publications, but the company has also won several national industry awards, firmly securing its reputation.” After setting up award-winning affiliate marketing company Optimus Performance Marketing eight years ago in Plymouth, Mark has seen the business grow from strength to strength. Not only has Mark been personally highly commended as a local entrepreneur by several publications, but the company has also won several national industry awards, firmly securing its reputation.
Darren Brockman, Mark’s business partner in this venture, brings with him over 15 years of motor trade experience to Marshall Motors SW LTD. After completing an apprenticeship, Darren found employment as a Junior Mechanic and rapidly worked his way up over the years to Senior Motor Technician, MOT Tester and Quality Controller. Married with four growing children, Darren felt that now was time to venture out and acquire his own motor trade business. As a way to celebrate their new business venture, Mark and Darren are offering their customers, both existing and new, the chance to take advantage of a range of offers:
• An oil and filter change and MOT for £60 inclusive • Half price MOT’s for just £27 • An oil and filter change with a free safety check for £40 inclusive Also available at Marshall Motors SW LTD are batteries, clutches, exhausts, cambelts, brakes and diagnostics. For a limited time only, the longstanding members of existing staff are offering a ‘free Winter check’ and will carry out an inspection on any car, by checking the fluid levels and the safety of your vehicle. Mark Russell made the following comment regarding his new business endeavour: “I am so thrilled to announce this exciting new venture. Marshall Motors SW LTD has a great reputation throughout Plymouth and beyond for offering their loyal customers the very best quality services. This is something myself and Darren are not planning on changing any time soon!”

BELLS OF ST MARY’S CHURCH, PLYMPTON COFFEE MORNING
T
he Parish Church of St Mary’s in Plympton is holding a Coffee Morning on Saturday 8th March in order to raise funds for the repair of the Church Bells. The event will be held from 10am until Noon at the Parish Hall in Market Road and, as well as coffee, tea and biscuits, there will be a raffle, cake stall, brica-brac, book stall, garden stall and a bring and buy stall. All donations will be welcome. Due to the hard work of the fund raisers and the generosity of the public, a substantial amount has been raised so far but the total is some way short of the total cost of the repairs needed. Unless the remaining funds are raised, it is possible that the Bells of St Mary’s will be silenced for the first time in nearly 400 years. Events like this are crucial to the future of this iconic feature of Plympton.

CARE ABOUT ANIMALS? With up to seventeen different species of unwanted pets on-site, a local sanctuary is pleading for all sorts of vital support.
C
arole Bowles MBE, the Founder of the Woodside Animal Welfare Trust, says it’s truly a situation of ‘every little helps’. “ We know most people are stretched these days, either by working time or finances - these are often why pets come to us. But you don’t have to donate lots of money or volunteer long hours, to make a difference to needy pets in our area, any of the following would be a great help” NEUTERING: please tell your friends and family about Woodside’s Low Cost Neuter Scheme for owners on benefit, tax credits or state pension. If not on these, owners can still buy our £1 savings stamps valid at many local vets. Help us prevent so many unwanted litters being born. UNWANTED GIFTS: Toiletries, accessories
18
and jewellery for example, are used for fundraising raffles or events. RECYCLING: Mobile phones, used stamps, oddments of gold or silver etc, printer cartridges or foreign/ old coins, all raise vital funds. CHARITY SHOPS: Woodside has twelve, offering really fair prices, and three are in the Plympton area. All need saleable items in good condition. For their locations please ring 01752 337552. WOODSIDE WAG: is a free e-blog available to anyone interested in learning about what Woodside does, what’s going on and the 200+ pets on -site. Simply email Ginny at woodsidecares@blueyonder.co.uk and ask to be added to the group list. You can also request a complimentary copy of our Friends Of Woodside membership Newsletter at the same time! The distribution of Plympton Community Magazine has never been beaten by any other local competitor! We have a dedicated marketing distribution company who deliver The Plympton Community Magazine through Plympton household letter box’s. The business was started by two companies who found it difficult to find reliable and economical distributors in the Plymouth and surrounding areas. Our distributors are respectful of occupants wishes at all times and they will never deliver material where the householder/business owner has requested us not to, we always ensure that all material is delivered into the letterbox and pushed through for security purposes. Our distributers use Full GPS tracking systems through mobile phones, this is a very unique system which enables us to view every step on every path, through every street, on every road and down every lane! This form of guaranteed tracking can also tell us how many distributers are working and how fast they are walking, this is then followed by spot checking to ensure they carry out the work as required to meet our very high standards. The Plympton Community Magazine is the original magazine which has been providing local information and great discounts to the people of Plympton for over 3 years. For the past 12 months we have chosen to use this new age form of distribution to ensure Plympton Magazine is delivered on time, every time, with a guaranteed tracked distribution!

LOCAL COMPANIES COME TOGETHER TO SUPPORT ALZHEIMERS CHARITY TREK Tone Leisure and Trail Outdoor, Ivybridge are supporting Plymouth resident Clare Stirling to get fit and kitted up for a charity trek.
I
n July 2014, Clare is taking up the challenge to trek up Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK, at night, for the Alzheimer’s Society. Clare said: “I decided to take part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society alongside my sister after my mum, who is 63 years old was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Mum is young to have Alzheimer’s and the Alzheimer’s Society have been excellent in supporting both my mum and dad in coming to terms with Mum’s diagnosis and supporting with care and the way forward for them both” She continues, “I have always loved adventure and have wanted to climb Ben Nevis and it will be fantastic to see the sunrise from the highest point in the UK. It’s great to know that the money I raise will help support people to live well with dementia today and fund research to find a cure for tomorrow.” Tone Leisure’s Centre in Ivybridge is supporting Clare to get fit by providing one month’s free membership and their fitness team’s support and knowledge in ensuring Clare is ready for the challenge that lies ahead. Ben Wilkinson from Ivybridge Leisure Centre comments. “We are really pleased that Clare came to see us about supporting her in her challenge. Dementia effects so many of our friends and families so we were honoured to be asked to support such a worthwhile cause.” Trail Outdoor have assisted Clare is advising and sourcing the right kit and equipment for the trek. Mark Holt from Trail Outdoor comments “As a small business we try to support charity events where we can; it’s refreshing to see someone so motivated in completing the challenge of Britain’s highest 24
mountain. We believe the Alzheimer’s Society is such a dedicated and worthwhile charity and we are honoured to support it. We would like to wish Clare all the best for completing her challenge and say a big thank you for choosing us to supply the kit required.” Clare states, “I’m excited to have the support of the team from Tone Leisure and Trail Outdoor. It’s important I get fit properly and without injury and also that I’m comfortable and wearing the right boots and clothing so I can make the most of the trek. Clare continues, “It’s been great to work alongside local businesses who have a heart for charity and community support. I would also like to say thank you to Plymcabs who have made a £100 donation to the Alzheimer’s Society through my JustGiving page in support of the trek.” Clare, together with her sister Sammy who lives in Hampshire hope to raise over £1500 by trekking up Ben Nevis on 5th July 2014. The trek starts at around 10.30pm and allows time for participants to reach the summit in time to see the sun come up. Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said: ‘We are delighted that Clare is giving her time to support Alzheimer’s Society. One in three people over 65 will develop dementia. It is caused by diseases of the brain and can happen to anyone. “As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals like Clare to help us continue our vital work. Please back Clare in her fundraising efforts so that Alzheimer’s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.” Clare will join a group of all ages and from all backgrounds on the Alzheimer’s Society Ben Nevis Midnight Challenge. The trip takes place from 5-6 July 2014 in Fort William, Scotland. To sponsor Clare please donate online at www.justgiving.com/clarestrek2014

Accidental Injury? Have you had an accident in the last three years that was not your fault? If so, contact Nash & Co Solicitors LLP Road traffic accidents, accidents at work or in public places – whatever the cause or circumstances, the effects can have far reaching consequences on your life. Accidents, by their very nature are sudden, often traumatic and the effects are immediate. Not only is there the physical pain, caused by the injury itself but you may also find you are unable to work and this can have a real impact on your finances and affect your standard of living. If the accident is due to someone else’s negligence then not only can you claim compensation for your physical injury, you are entitled to claim for your lost earnings, medical and other expenses. Our approach to personal injury is caring, supportive and realistic. We will talk to you and explain things in plain English with no legal jargon.
Are you eligible? Was someone else to blame for the accident? Did the accident cause your injuries? Did the accident happen within the last 3 years? If you have answered yes to these questions, you are probably eligible to claim compensation.
How much will it cost? It will cost you nothing to speak to one of our team to find out whether you have a claim that is worth pursuing. During the initial discussion we will give you an honest assessment of the likelihood of success, the likely costs and whether or not you will be able to recover those costs. Many people hold Legal Expenses Insurance without even knowing it. It is important that at times like these to get sound legal advice from the start, to discuss your options and to ensure you are aware of the many practical issues that you may face. If you don’t have legal expenses insurance, there are other options available to you. We can organise a “no win no fee” agreement.
