Award-winning Plymouth Independent Hotel Unveils £400k Expansion Following a £400,000, seven-month refurbishment 12 new bedrooms at The Grosvenor Plymouth are ready for guests. The award-winning hotel on Elliot Street has expanded into the adjoining property to increase its size from 29 to 41 bedrooms, a new breakfast / function room and new lounge. Owner, Paul Bennett believes that these are the first new independent hotel bed spaces in Plymouth for a number of years.

P

aul Bennett, owner of The Grosvenor Plymouth said “I am watching Plymouth develop before my eyes, but as is common knowledge there just isn’t enough quality bed spaces in the City. As we’ve seen with so many recent closures of small, medium and large accommodation providers, it’s a tough business to be in. With so many review sites now controlling the industry, customers expect more than ever and I believe that without the reinvestment it can become a slippery slope very quickly. I realise that sometimes this isn’t for the want of trying because if the guests don’t come, then there is nothing to put back in. I know that this continual reinvestment is what is required to keep our occupancy high - obviously along with the immaculate levels of customer service, cleanliness and a nice hearty freshly cooked breakfast of course!” Paul is delighted with the work and is glad that it’s been finished in time for Plymouth’s busy summer season. The hotel is ideally located just 50 yards from the Hoe and a close walk from the town centre, Theatre Royal and Pavilions so becomes extremely popular for a wide spectrum of clientele. Paul said “Our pricing structure is slightly unusual in that we have the same tariff all year

round. We don’t put prices up and we don’t put them down. That way every guest under our roof has paid the same and that sits well with me. It also allows guests to know whether we are an affordable option for them without having to trawl the net for hours to find the best price.” Paul added “We have regular workers from labourers to barristers, provide accommodation for local footballers to artists performing at Pavilions and have even had Heston Blumenthal stay over and try our locally sourced breakfast - now not many people can say they’ve cooked for Heston!” The hard work of the last few months is already paying off with the hotel seeing record levels of occupancy and with the sun forecast throughout this summer, the future looks bright for Paul and his staff at The Grosvenor Plymouth. For more information contact Paul Bennett at The Grosvenor Plymouth: Tel: 01752 260411 Email: info@grosvenor-plymouth.com or visit: www.grosvenor-plymouth.com The Grosvenor Plymouth was named ‘Best Hotel & Accommodation’ in the 2013 Plymouth City Centre & Waterfront Awards.

The distribution of Plympton Community Magazine has never been beaten by any other local competitor! We have a dedicated marketing distribution company who deliver The Plympton Community Magazine through Plympton household letter box’s. The business was started by two companies who found it difficult to find reliable and economical distributors in the Plymouth and surrounding areas. Our distributors are respectful of occupants wishes at all times and they will never deliver material where the householder/business owner has requested us not to, we always ensure that all material is delivered into the letterbox and pushed through for security purposes. Our distributers use Full GPS tracking systems through mobile phones, this is a very unique system which enables us to view every step on every path, through every street, on every road and down every lane! This form of guaranteed tracking can also tell us how many distributers are working and how fast they are walking, this is then followed by spot checking to ensure they carry out the work as required to meet our very high standards. The Plympton Community Magazine is the original magazine which has been providing local information and great discounts to the people of Plympton for over 3 years. For the past 12 months we have chosen to use this new age form of distribution to ensure Plympton Magazine is delivered on time, every time, with a guaranteed tracked distribution!

Plymouths local animal charity needs your help! Gables Farm Cats’ and Dogs’ Home has been helping the region’s dogs and cats since 1907. We look after some 1000 cats and dogs every year. We either rehome or re-unite them with their owners and provide constant veterinary care and attention to all of them during their stay with us. We enforce a strict non-euthanasia policy, which means no healthy animal in our care is put to sleep unless they are seriously ill and suffering or too dangerous to rehome. Some dogs and cats stay with us for a long time but we never give up hope of finding them a new loving home no matter how much it costs! We rehome animals all over Devon, Somerset, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We receive no Government funding so totally rely on the generosity and support of the public through donations and legacies.

PADDLING POOL APPEAL Gables Farm Dogs’ and Cats’ Home is appealing for donations to help them purchase six special dog paddling pools for their dogs. We trialled lots of different types of paddling pools last summer but there was only one type that could withstand regular use by our over enthusiastic dogs. These paddling pools are tough pools that are specially made for dogs. The cost of purchasing the six paddling pools is £1353. Gables Farm would like to appeal to people to make a donation to their ‘Paddling Pool Appeal.’ Deputy Manager Ruth Rickard said: “A small contribution to our Paddling pool appeal could make a huge difference to the dogs in our care. Last summer the extreme heat meant that the paddling pools were invaluable. Unfortunately they were not strong enough to withstand the dogs bouncing in and out of them all day and we had to replace them weekly. The new pools we are hoping to buy are tough enough to last for many years to come.” If you can help by making a contribution towards the ‘Paddling Pool Appeal’ please call 01752 331602 or visit www.gablesfarm.org.uk to donate online.

ANNUAL OPEN DAY & SCRUFFTS REGIONAL HEAT We will be holding our annual open day on Saturday 26th July at Gables Farm from 11am until 3pm. There will be a fun family dog show, a raffle, a tombola, lots of stalls and refreshments. We will also be holding the regional heat of the Scruffts Crossbreed of the Year competition. Please visit www.gablesfarm.org.uk to download a show schedule.

Be a Jam Jar Star for Woodside W oodside Animal Sanctuary based at Elfordleigh is asking people to become Jam Jar stars and save their annoying 5 pence pieces. Woodside has ran the appeal for many years to help fund its old animals unit, but the support has dwindled and the sanctuary is now calling for supporters to revive the campaign. Lisa Darcy, assistant manager at Woodside said “Resident cat Pants has been the face of the campaign, to raise funds for our ever increasing vet bill since 2008. With kitten season now starting the strain on our resources will be stretched even further, but with a little help from many households the pressure could be somewhat eased.” The sanctuary can provide people with logoed jam jars, or you can use one you may have yourself. Why not get the children to decorate it too. Carole Bowles MBE, sanctuary founder said “With over 100 animals to care for at any one time and that figure likely to double during the peak of the kitten season, it is no surprise our bills are so high, and with no sign of let up in the demand for help with rehoming animals this campaign helps give us that lift we need”

Donations can be dropped to the sanctuary in Elfordleigh or any of their 12 charity shops. The sanctuary can be contacted on 01752 347503.
