THE POWER OF TRUSTS The power of Trusts is immense. Trusts can protect your property, your cash savings, your holiday home and other assets from unforeseen eventualities.

I

t will also ensure that the people named in your will do in fact inherit. Take the example of Mr & Mrs P who left everything to each other in their wills and then to their children on second death. Mrs P died and Mr P inherited, but years later Mr P became very lonely and disgruntled with one of his own sons and a step child and cut them out of his will, something Mrs P would not have wanted. A Trust in the wills costing about £200 each could have put her major assets, which in this case was their house into trust for the children to inherit after second death. Trusts are very powerful tools and freestanding trusts outside the will can protect assets from being lost for all sorts of

unforeseen eventualities, provided they are not taken out when any of these events is a foreseen eventuality. These are called Life Interest Trusts, and a person’s property and savings can be put into them to be protected while still giving flexibility to downsize and spend any excess money. Life Interest Trusts can also save probate costs which can be substantial, and make dealing with the estate easier for the executors as property put into this type of trust does not have to wait for probate. Trusts can also be used to reduce inheritance tax substantially, and in some cases remove it. The power of trusts is immense. New Local Business proves to be a success Two young businessmen took a gamble and changed their career path and launched a gadget repair service. With business growing and plans for further expansion, it has proven to be a huge success.

R

obert Stephens, aged 29, and Joe Smith, aged 28, launched SOS i-Fix; a repair service which caters for a wide range of gadgets including Mobile Phones, Tablets, Laptops, Consoles and more. SOS i-FIX can be found on North Hill, opposite Plymouth University. “Seventy-five per cent of people live on their phones – it’s their life,” said Rob. “If their phone gets damaged it’s more important to get it fixed than, say, get their car fixed.”

The business idea is very different from the career path they originally set out on. Rob was previously a Painter and Decorator, and Joe was a plumber. “We were tired of working on building sites and with Rob having some experience in the business we decided to have a crack at it.” Due to the success, they are now planning to expand and a third shop is in the pipeline, in another area of Plymouth. The business partners have high hopes for the enterprise and are looking forward to the bright future ahead.

Contrary to what your doctor may tell you, when it comes to your health the first person you should consult is yourself.

F

orget the assumption that your medical doctor is the be all and end all when it comes to your health, fitness and wellbeing. On second thought, for the minute, let us presume your doctor is the best person to help you. Imagine the scenario: You are struggling with a niggling injury, maybe back pain, a problem with your knee, or even headaches. You go to your doctor, have your seven minute appointment and go on your way with an ample supply of painkillers or antiinflammatories to get you through. Problem solved, right? Wrong. The drugs help with the symptoms for a few hours but you are still left with the problem. This is the situation Ryan Buckle found himself in. Back in 2005, Ryan was involved in a motorbike accident which left him with a broken leg and an on-going case of whiplash. He spent many months trying to locate a therapist who could help him on his road to recovery, often getting referred to the wrong people. Ryan’s experience highlighted the problem in the system: people looking for a health professional often don’t know where to find the professional they need. After eventually getting the right treatment, going on to become a personal trainer and studying towards a degree at the University St. Mark & St. John in Health, Exercise and Physical activity, Ryan created Capes Health Professionals; a website to efficiently match people with a professional to help them recover, get fit or improve their health and wellbeing. “After going through something like this I quickly realised that finding someone who could help me was something I knew nothing about. I had all sorts of questions. Who do I need to see? Who can help me? Where do I find a professional? It took me a long time to find someone who had dealt with my problem previously and I was comfortable to work with.

Through my experiences and working with people to improve their health I am continually asked where to find a health professional or who they should see. So I decided to do something about it and make health professionals easy to find for everyone.” Capes provides an online service that connects people to professional, qualified health professionals, saving time, getting results and avoiding disappointment. People can compare health professionals at their leisure and see all the information they need to know including what they do, their skill set, their hobbies and interests, images and experience to be able to find the right health professional to help them. When they are ready, they can get in touch safe in the knowledge they have found the right health professional. There are Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, Physiotherapists, Exercise professionals and Sports therapists, which is where the name Capes came from. With many more health professionals included with massage therapists, hypnotherapists, counsellors, reflexologists and more. You can find the professional you require, for an injury or rehabilitation right through to a personal trainer to get in shape or a relaxing massage from a qualified massage therapist. Find the right health professional for you with Capes Health Professionals.

The distribution of Plympton Community Magazine has never been beaten by any other local competitor! We have a dedicated marketing distribution company who deliver The Plympton Community Magazine through Plympton household letter box’s. The business was started by two companies who found it difficult to find reliable and economical distributors in the Plymouth and surrounding areas. Our distributors are respectful of occupants wishes at all times and they will never deliver material where the householder/business owner has requested us not to, we always ensure that all material is delivered into the letterbox and pushed through for security purposes. Our distributers use Full GPS tracking systems through mobile phones, this is a very unique system which enables us to view every step on every path, through every street, on every road and down every lane! This form of guaranteed tracking can also tell us how many distributers are working and how fast they are walking, this is then followed by spot checking to ensure they carry out the work as required to meet our very high standards. The Plympton Community Magazine is the original magazine which has been providing local information and great discounts to the people of Plympton for over 3 years. For the past 12 months we have chosen to use this new age form of distribution to ensure Plympton Magazine is delivered on time, every time, with a guaranteed tracked distribution!

Plymouth History Festival celebrates City’s unique heritage for a second year The programme for the Plymouth’s 2014 History Festival has gone live and features over 100 different events.

T

he festival will take place from 1st to 31st May and aims to bring a number of historical events in the city under one banner, as well as provide residents and visitors with a focal point for celebrating and discovering Plymouth’s unique heritage. The festival caters for all ages and interests and events will be held in many different locations, not just in the city centre but also around the Hoe, the Barbican, the Royal William Yard, the Millfields and in many of the suburbs. Venues range from church halls and guildhalls to civic buildings and historic houses. The festival will kick off with the opening of the city’s flagship World War I and ‘Three Towns’ centenary exhibition, ‘Plymouth’s Great War: Three Towns United in Conflict’. The show is one of a number of ways in which the city will be commemorating 100 years since the start of the First World War, as well as celebrating 100 years since the three towns of Plymouth, Devonport and East Stonehouse became one, throughout 2014. It will be on display from 1st May to 29th November at the City Museum and Art Gallery. “Plymouth History Festival launched last year and was a great success – bringing together so many different organisations and societies under one programme and providing a huge variety of opportunities for people to

It’s a huge achievement to go live with such an extensive programme already and I’m sure more events will be added as we get closer to May.” The History Festival programme also features displays, family-friendly activities, talks, presentations, guided tours and walks and a series of special one-off events. Plympton Magazine Exclusive Interview!

The Saturdays have announced their new Greatest Hits Album and Tour, which is set to take the UK by storm later this year and the tour will finish right here in Plymouth!

The new Greatest Hits Album and accompanying tour sparked rumours the pop sensations The Saturdays may be splitting up. Director of Oracle Magazine Myles Lockwood caught up with Mollie King and Vanessa White, who confirmed they are still going strong and talked about their plans for the year ahead. So you have recently released a new single ‘Not Giving Up’. Can you tell us about it? Mollie: It’s definitely classic Saturdays! It’s quite a

dancy track, it’s more towards the ‘All Fired Up’ pop vein I guess. It’s actually our fans favourite on this album, so that’s why we released it, and we’re just hoping that everyone else likes it too!

On the single cover, it looks like you are all holding large fluorescent tubes or Lightsabers. Does that relate to the style of the video? Mollie: The single cover will make no sense if you haven’t seen the video, but were all holding light beams. That then carries through to the cover of the single. We wanted the video to be quite graphic, quite cool and sort of dance-esque, so that’s what that is all about.

Vanessa White and Mollie King from The Saturdays 26

How much fun was it making the video? Vanessa: We had such a blast making the video, honestly! It was quite a long day, but we had a new routine and it was a lot of fun dancing

together.

Mollie: Those beams though, I’m telling you, they were so hot!

The Saturdays have a big announcement to tell the readers of Oracle, would you like to tell us what that is? Mollie: I would love to! It’s the fact that we’re

releasing a Greatest Hits Album and were going on a Greatest Hits Tour.

Wow, that’s great news! When will that start? Mollie: The album comes out on 11th August and

the Greatest Hits Tour starts 7th September. So we are going to have a really busy summer planning it all and with all the rehearsals. We’ve got a lot of staging, lots of costumes and so much to plan for this tour so I don’t think we’re going to get much rest!

The new Greatest Hits Album features over thirteen top ten singles. Other than the new single “Not Giving Up”. Will it include any new tracks? Vanessa: Yes there are going to be 3 new tracks on

the Greatest Hits Album and we’re literally still in the middle of recording them and choosing them now!

Do you have any favorites on the new album? Mollie: Oh I do. I don’t like to pick favorites

but I’m going to have to! I love Notorious, I also love Issues, and I like Higher as well.

Notorious is one of our favorites, the video was incredible! Mollie: Me too! That’s definitely my favorite video of all of ours!

The video Higher is brilliant too. Was it filmed at Universal Studios? Mollie: Do you know what the weird thing was? It was filmed in the Warner Brother Studios, but we were in LA pretending to be in New York! We were like; surely we could just go to New York and film it there? But no, we always like to do things the complicated way round!

Will there be any Fan or VIP packages available for your

Please mention The Plympton Community Magazine when responding to adverts

27

Continued new tour? Mollie: I think we will be doing meet and greet,

yes! But the thing about our shows, is that we love a bit of crowd participation. We love the crowd to get involved and everyone to sing along. It’s really going to be a full on pop show, with loads of special effects, lots of different costumes and all of the hits. So it’s just going to have a real party vibe. We are going to go out with a bang!

Usually a band will release a Greatest Hits Album once they pass the peak of their career, but you must be at the height of your career right now! Is there any reason why you decided to released the album now? Vanessa: Well, as it stands we have 17 singles, so

it felt like a great time for us to put it in a Greatest Hits Album now, rather than later, and having four CDs in one! It just seemed right to be honest. We’re not splitting up at all. We plan to hopefully do another Greatest Hits Album in the future! We’re not going anywhere, and I think after the tour and the album comes out we will still be working on new music next year.

So you will be coming to perform in Plymouth on 23rd September. Is that the last date of your tour? Mollie: It is! We’re actually ending the whole tour

in Plymouth! So you guys better look after us and give us a good night out, because we will be doing lots of celebrating!

While your down here do you plan to visit any sea front Restaurants or Clubs the City has to offer? Vanessa: Well I think because that will be our last show, we will definitely have a party, so you will all have to come down!

Mollie: Probably! All our families, friends, babies, boyfriends, husbands, dogs - everyone’s going to be there! So if you’re not there - you’re in the minority!

To date, The Saturdays have sold over five million records, with four top ten albums. Did you ever imagine you would ever get to this point in your career? Mollie: Oh my goodness, it’s weird when you say 28

that because for us it’s been quite a gradual, growing process. So when you say it like that, we have actually have achieved a lot! But there have been so many different highlights and there is still so much that we each want to achieve. It’s incredible when you put it like that though, it’s weird to get your head around!

How long have the band been together now? You all must be very good friends! Vanessa: Almost 7 Years! That’s crazy isn’t it! I think in the beginning people where like ‘do you really get on?’ and people don’t really ask us that anymore because I think it’s obvious, you know. There’s no way we would still be together now if we didn’t got on! It just wouldn’t have worked.

The band were put together by a record company through auditions. What made you decide to peruse a singing career and go for the auditions? Vanessa: Well ever since I was very young, I

knew that I wanted to sing. I just knew! I went to stage school and I was doing loads of auditions anyway. So when this came about it was the one that I didn’t expect to get to be honest, but that’s always the way isn’t it! I was only 17, it was pretty incredible. I was very lucky!

Mollie: I have wanted to be in a band since I was

about 6 years old, but my parents wouldn’t let me do any auditions until I had done my A levels! Once I did that, I joined a girl band and gigged all around the country and then it was through that, that I was asked to come and audition for The Saturdays, so I have been very lucky as well.

The last date of the tour in Plymouth will certainly be a big night for you. We look forward to seeing you perform in September! Vanessa: Thank you! Mollie: Thank you very much! We shall see you

there!
