Making a will?
Ten things to consider 6. Passing personal/household effects to specifically named persons or charities e.g. jewellery to a daughter 7. If you are have children from a previous relationship, structuring your Will to make suitable provision for both your current spouse/partner whilst at the same time ensuring that part of the Capital is ‘ring fenced’ for the ultimate benefit of your children. This could involve giving your spouse/partner a rent free right of occupation for life or a formal life interest in your home and providing for the Capital to pass to your children on their death. I am often asked the question, “What should I include in my will?”. In general terms the most common issues that are covered in a person’s Will are as follows: 1. Whether you wish to be buried/cremated/ allow your body to be used for organ transplantation/medical research. 2. Whom you appoint as Executors (the persons legally responsible for carrying out your wishes). 3. Whom you appoint to act as guardians for any children who are minors at the date of your death. 4. To whom you entrust the future care of any animals in your ownership at your death and whether they are to be financially recompensed for taking on this responsibility. 5. Whether to leave a set sum cash legacy to family, friends or favourite charities.
8. Protecting assets from being “at risk” if a family member is going through divorce or bankruptcy at the time of your death. 9. Making arrangements for the continued support of family members with special needs without directly passing the capital to them. 10.Deciding who should inherit the remainder of your Estate, and who should benefit from your Estate if your chosen beneficiaries were to die before you e.g. providing for the benefit to pass on to their children at a specified age, failing which to alternate beneficiaries. The above matters, whilst not intended to be comprehensive should nevertheless give you food for thought when considering what to include in your Will. The distribution of Plympton Community Magazine has never been beaten by any other local competitor! We have a dedicated marketing distribution company who deliver The Plympton Community Magazine through Plympton household letter box’s. The business was started by two companies who found it difficult to find reliable and economical distributors in the Plymouth and surrounding areas. Our distributors are respectful of occupants wishes at all times and they will never deliver material where the householder/business owner has requested us not to, we always ensure that all material is delivered into the letterbox and pushed through for security purposes. Our distributers use Full GPS tracking systems through mobile phones, this is a very unique system which enables us to view every step on every path, through every street, on every road and down every lane! This form of guaranteed tracking can also tell us how many distributers are working and how fast they are walking, this is then followed by spot checking to ensure they carry out the work as required to meet our very high standards. The Plympton Community Magazine is the original magazine which has been providing local information and great discounts to the people of Plympton for over 3 years. For the past 12 months we have chosen to use this new age form of distribution to ensure Plympton Magazine is delivered on time, every time, with a guaranteed tracked distribution!

Childcare News John Didymus, Headteacher, summed the atmosphere of the evening up with the words, ‘Evenings like this reinforce what we are here for – to transform the lives of young people and give them the best possible life chances. We are very proud of all of our students and wish them every success in the future.’
RIDGEWAY LEAVERS RETURN TO CELEBRATE THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS Some sparkle was added to a drizzly January evening when Ridgeway School hosted an evening of celebration where Post 16 leavers were presented with their A level certificates. Students returned to Ridgeway from locations all over the country and from courses as diverse as Medicine, Civil Engineering, Art Illustration, Acting and Teaching. Head of Post 16, Jason Ryder commented, ‘This is one of the most special events in the school calendar as former students return to catch up with us on the next stage of their career journey. It’s like a family re-union and a celebration all rolled in to one.’ The evening was centred around the formal presentation of certificates to a year group who performed exceptionally well, but also provided plenty of opportunities for students to mingle with old friends and teachers and reflect on their time at the school. James Sturt, now at the University of Birmingham said, ‘I realised tonight how much I miss the place and how important it has been in providing me with the foundation for study at University. It was good to see old friends and teachers and spend one last evening in The Main Hall where my journey at the school began as a shiny year 7 student!’
DESTINED TO SURVIVE Students from Ridgeway School had the privilege of listening to the story of a Holocaust survivor this week. Solly Irving told his story ‘Destined to Survive’ to 200 year ten students and staff. The hall was silent as he gave his testimony of his life as a Jew during the atrocities of World War II under the Nazi regime. The students were moved and asked many questions about his experiences, surprised that he still has faith in God. Solly has spent four days visiting secondary schools in Plymouth in preparation for holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January. Miss McVicker (teacher) said: “his story is a poignant one which engaged every student in that room, Solly’s hope is that these young people continue to tell his story to others who doubt that the Holocaust ever happened and to ensure it never happens again”. than 700 elaborate costumes representing 26 different types of animal, 21 giant trucks are used to transport everything across the country. In total, the touring production will visit 10 cities across the UK & Ireland over two and a half years, with further dates and locations to be announced. The acclaimed stage adaptation of Disney’s 1994 film was first seen on Broadway in 1997, where it recently became the highest grossing show in Broadway history. The production has now been seen by over 68 million people across six continents and the acclaimed West End production continues to sell out at London’s Lyceum Theatre in its 15th triumphant year. To date, this new touring production has enjoyed sell-out, record-breaking seasons in Bristol, Manchester, Dublin and Birmingham and is in its last few weeks at Edinburgh before opening in the south west. Both audiences and critics have embraced Disney’s The Lion King, giving it rave reviews and standing ovations.
