I enjoy swimming for fitness, reading and listening to music. I’ve also carried out work experience at a Primary School where I undertook the role of teaching assistant. I supported the teacher in her role and also worked with the children in smaller groups and in one to one sessions to improve their reading and other skills. I have also performed roles in productions of Midsummers Night’s Dream and various pantomimes both at school and in a local amateur dramatic society. I was involved in money raising for a local children’s cancer charity, Julia’s House by putting on a performance of a play with a youth theatre group. I worked backstage on the school’s production of Grease with the responsibility of making sure the actors had their props and that the scene changes took place both quickly and efficiently. I have undertaken voluntary work at an after school club where I had to organise games with the children and also arrange my own activities. I enjoy driving and have a full clean driving licence. I love to travel and see new places and the different cultures that come with new places. I have also been on a number of fieldtrips including a Geography trip to Barcelona.

Strategy, Planning, Prioritisation: During my first six months at The History Press, I undertook a work based learning NVQ in Business and Administration whilst carrying out the duties of my full-time position as Web & Data Assistant. With exams and work duties, I was able to improve my skills in planning and prioritisation. When the NVQ was completed and my role in the company grew to Sales Support & Direct Marketing Assistant, this of course came with more duties. The planning and prioritisation needed to carry out my role increased and as such so did my skills.

Computer Literacy: Academically I have learnt how to competently use many computer programs with excellent working knowledge of Excel spreadsheets and formulas, other Microsoft office applications, statistical analysis programs such as Minitab Stat 15, PASW Statistics 18/SPSS, and mapping and spatial analysis programs such as ArcGIS. In the workplace, I have honed Microsoft Office skills and learnt how to update and edit


websites and use content management systems and workflow tools. On a personal basis I have developed skills in graphics programs such as Corel Draw Graphics Suite X5 and Adobe Photoshop to aid my photography and also have a WordPress blog.

Effective Communication: Experience in retail has allowed me to improve face-to-face communications and customer service, and my office experience has allowed me to improve communications across phone and email also. Furthermore, when working at the Plymouth Graduation, having to numerously transition from the stressful kitchen to the paying public in the marquee put me to test, however this experience was beneficial to my skills and it was a great experience as it allowed me to learn to positively react in difficult conditions. Leadership At school, I was a prefect and deputy science ambassador, organising different activities for the school and supervising the lower years during science activity days and competitions. The other ambassadors and myself held science clubs to encourage students to develop their scientific knowledge. I was involved with a group of students, helping to plan and deliver PSHE lessons to younger students. Sport I have competed in Triathlons and Tetrathlons at Regional Level, which involved swimming, running, pistol shooting and horse riding. More recently at university I am a keen and enthusiastic member of the hockey team, playing for the 4th team regularly. In addition to this I have volunteered for RELAYS, (Regional Educational Legacy for Arts and Youth Sport). This involved helping children with disabilities aged 10-18 play different sports at a yearly sports event in Devon and Cornwall. I also obtained my advanced SSI scuba diving qualification. Lifestyle I am a key member of Young Farmers and have reached the regional semi-finals of both the annual drama revue and public speaking, As well as competing in various competitions such as a cooking competition. I have also reared a calf and entered a woodwork class in the 2010 annual rally, both of which I came first in. Travel During the summer of 2008, I travelled to Tanzania on a World Challenge expedition. This was a great opportunity to experience another culture, cuisine and get the chance to meet new people and help other people. Whilst in Tanzania, I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, helped at a local secondary school with the building of a new toilet block and helped the students with Geography, English and Maths. During 2010, I took a gap between my studies and travelled to South-East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. This was an amazing experience that encouraged me to travel independently, manage money on a set budget and experience new cultures and places outside of my comfort zone, as well as meeting new people. SKILLS For my world challenge trip to Tanzania, I had to fund raise the majority of the cost towards the trip this encouraged me to manage my time effectively around my studies and other activities. Working with the public and organising birthday parties has helped me to work efficiently and effectively under pressure during busy days. My degree course has developed of my analytical and interpreting skills which apply to both text and numerical data. My laboratory experience includes palynology and water quality analysis. Through this and my work as a catering assistant I have basic training in COSHH risk assessment. I have practical experience of fieldwork, collecting both qualitative and quantitative data, both in education and by volunteering with the Open Air Laboratories scheme. I have a good working knowledge of most standard packages including Microsoft Excel and the Internet for information retrieval and online searches. University has developed my time-management skills and ability to prioritise my work and meet deadlines. As Head Girl I had the responsibility of organising a team of prefects, arranging social and fund-raising events and assisting with tutor group sessions. I have good communication and interpersonal skills gained from part time employment whilst at college and university.
