This has been produced by the Employability Service and whether you are looking for a graduate job, information on further study or wondering how the university can help you as a graduate, then this is the brochure for you! The graduate market is a competitive place, with over 500,000 expected to graduate this year alone, so it is becoming increasingly important to take advantage of the opportunities that are available. This brochure has been designed to provide you with a range of employment prospects and incorporates opportunities from a variety of different health care organisations, who collectively employ over 50,000 people! TOP TIPS TOP TIPS ON THE JOB SEARCH FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONALS 1 M ake sure you understand exactly what the role requires and think about your skills and experience in relation to their needs 2 R esearch! Find out as much as you can about the role and organisation – read reports, web pages, visit if you can or talk to people who work there. 3 M ake sure your application is as good as it can possibly be. Show that you are really tailoring to the shortlisting criteria; use specific examples and remember the CAR/ STAR technique. Find the best examples that you can, preferably from your clinical placements but you can use other aspects of your experience as additional evidence 4 N etwork. Build and use contacts. This might not be about job applications per se but contacts can lead to information about posts that might be coming up and insider information about organisations 5 B e as flexible as you can with job location at this stage. You have just invested considerable time on building the start of a professional career. Find good experience and use it to gain experience and to further your skills. We are currently recruiting for part-time and sessional (bank) support workers. As a Support Worker you will be working with a wide range of individuals with learning disabilities and other complex needs. You will be helping them to increase their independence and integration into the community, through supporting them with their daily living skills and networks. Due to the nature of the work, experience of working within care is preferable however not essential as full training is provided. Our shift patterns are over a seven day rota and you must be flexible to work day or night shifts, weekends, sleep-ins and bank holidays. Day to day you will be involved in supporting people with their daily lives, which includes personal care. It may involve taking them to appointments, helping them with their budgets or shopping, taking them on holiday or helping them learn to cycle, swim or a number of other activities they may be interested in. It will be through your support and help that they will be able to become more independent and have a better quality and enjoyable life.

VACANCIES & OPPORTUNITIES: Registered Nurse – Adult Health Nurse (Soldier Entry) If you’re registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council RN(A), and under the age of 32 years and 11 months, you could make a real difference as an Adult Health Nurse in the Queen Alexander’s Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARANC). Being in the QARANC, you will be delivering specialist and general nursing care not only to British troops on military operations, but also to civilians and communities worldwide. As a result, you can enjoy a wide-ranging and varied career in clinical, training and management posts, whilst continuing personal, military and professional development.

Training to be the best Training and clinical development is an essential part of being an Army Nurse. You’ll be encouraged to further your clinical knowledge after qualification with full- and part-time courses. Emergency Nursing, Intensive Care Nursing, Trauma Orthopaedic, Sexual Health, Perioperative Nursing and in particular, Primary Health Care. Your first step towards being an Army Nurse will be to complete your Phase 1 training. A 14-week period of basic military instruction designed to equip you for living and working in the field. It will also help develop your leadership skills and build your fitness.

Physiotherapist Officer

If you’re registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council RN(MH) and are under 32 years and 11 months, you’re eligible to apply to become a Mental Health Nurse in the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps (QARANC).

If you’re registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, are a fully qualified and registered member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists – and are under 34 years of age – you’re eligible to apply to become a Physiotherapist Officer in the Army Medical Corps.

Training to be the best A career as an Army Mental Health Nurse will take you on a journey of continual clinical development that is designed to broaden your scope of practice. You’ll be offered the chance to train in areas such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing Assessment and Mentorship as well as others. You’ll have the chance to progress to postgraduate qualifications in areas such as CBT and train in other fields such as Substance Misuse or Clinical Supervision. To get you started, you’ll complete a 14-week period of basic military instruction known as Phase 1 training. Here you’ll learn how to live and work in a military environment, developing leadership skills and building your fitness. It’s challenging, but also fun. When you enter the Corps, you will work at one of our Department of Community Mental Heath (DCMH) units within Defence Primary Healthcare. You may also work in the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (RCDM), assisting casualties returning from operational environments, and roles in academic research posts such as the Academy Centre for Defence Mental Health (ACDMH) or the Defence School of Postgraduate Medical Studies.

Training to be the best If you’re application is successful, you’ll be awarded the commissioned rank of Lieutenant (on probation) and attend the Army Medical Service’s Entry Officer’s Course (EOC) which covers basic military training and builds leadership skills. Once you’ve completed your EOC, your probationary commission is confirmed. As a Commissioned Officer, you will continue to develop your leadership and management skills at the same time as undertaking military duties as required.

Northern Devon Healthcare Trust Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust operates across 1,300 square miles, providing care for people from Axminster to Bude and from Exmouth to Lynton. The Trust offers both acute services, centred on North Devon District Hospital (NDDH) and adult community services, across a network of 17 community hospitals and nine integrated health and social care community clusters, spanning Torridge, North Devon, East Devon, Exeter, Mid Devon, Teignbridge and West Devon. The North Devon District Hospital provides a full complement of secondary care services including diagnostics, treatment and follow-up care, along with A&E, cancer care, orthopaedic surgery, paediatric care and maternity services. Working across acute and community settings are the specialist services such as podiatry, musculoskeletal, audiology and ophthalmology. These services are organised in discrete pathways and are commissioned separately. Community services can be divided into inpatient nursing and therapies at the community hospitals run by this Trust and the complex care teams, which consist of multidisciplinary teams with district nursing and social workers. In addition to inpatient care, some of the community hospitals offer a Minor Injury Unit and stroke rehabilitation. Community-based and specialist staff also work from GP surgeries, other local bases and, increasingly, in people’s own homes.
