Introduction Today’s job market for graduates is highly competitive. With around half a million students graduating every year, employers have a lot of choice. When selecting, they will look at your qualification as a starting point and will then want evidence of the additional skills and experience you have to offer. At the University of Plymouth, we offer you a range of opportunities to help you make the most of your university experience. Taking up these opportunities will also help make you more employable. Work experience, participation in clubs and societies, voluntary work, your choice of dissertation, being a course representative - these are all things that can add value to your CV and help make you stand out from your peers. This year we are also offering a new opportunity for you to gain additional recognition for your extracurricular activities by launching the Plymouth Award. This award has the endorsement of many prestigious employers, both local and national, and we believe it will help you stand out in today’s crowded job market. This booklet aims to give you an overview of some of the ways of adding value to your University experience. We hope it helps you achieve your goals.

From my personal perspective the project has not only had a massive impact on developing my skills and knowlwdge as a designer, but also my ability to run and manage a very long and challenging project. I believe that without the overall support of the KTP system and structure, I would have required a number of additional years working in industry before I could successfully complete, (to the level that I have) such a detailed and demanding project.
