THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BRIDGE IN HO CHI MINH

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the Saigon River flowing through Ho Chi Minh City has witnessed various changes, with many bridges being built to serve socio-economic development and accommodate the needs of tourists.

Sai Gon Bridge

Saigon Bridge is the most famous and important bridge connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the northern and central provinces. Being built in 1958, this 986.12 m long bridge is a historical construction that has been witnessing the city’s historical upheavals. The bridge has been repaired many times to meet the increasing traffic demand along with the economic and social development needs of Ho Chi Minh City.

Before 1975, Saigon Bridge was called Tan Cang Bridge since it was located near the new port of Saigon. However, a few people know that its original name is Saigon Bridge simply because the bridge crosses the Saigon River. In the early 1960s, it was often called the highway bridge because it used to serve the Saigon - Bien Hoa highway.

In 1966, the government built Tan Cang near the Saigon Bridge, an area that used to be rice fields. In 1967, a large military port was built with berths with a length of more than 1200m, a width of 24m, an inclined berth of 40m wide, and a system of warehouses, electricity and water, and internal traffic to serve national defense. In 1980, the new bridge was called again with the original name of Saigon Bridge.
