W

elcome to the spring edition of the Community Now newsletter. The year is disappearing so quickly, and in this edition we’ve provided a snapshot of just a few of the many projects that Council has been delivering on behalf of our community over recent months. From road re-construction and rehabilitation works, upgrading recreational facilities and providing new community infrastructure there is so much going on. Thankyou to those of you who have taken the opportunity to have your say and to everyone involved in helping us deliver these exciting initiatives. > The completion of the $1.9 million second multi-purpose field caps off a remarkable transformation of the precinct over the past eight months.

> Upgrades to Beechwood Road (between Bain Bridge and the Beechwood Township) will see road quality enhanced ensuring a smoother ride for motorists and improved safety.

> Further works are underway including a new children’s water play area, covered concrete grandstand and new shade shelters, with diving boards already in place.

> The $7 million reconstruction of the ‘ghost road’ is almost complete, adding to the $35 million Council will invest in upgrading our road network this financial year.


Port Macquarie CBD developments > Rejuvenation of the Port Macquarie CBD is on track to be ready for the busy Christmas holiday period with the northern end of the new vibrant Town Square already open and final touches taking shape on the Town Green.

Crack down on illegal dumpers

> Grant funding of $147,000 will assist in cleaning up over 300 known dumping sites, installing prevention measures, surveillance and running education programs.

> Sporting and community groups will benefit from $460,000 worth of lighting upgrades that will extend the use of fields at Lank Bain Sporting Complex and Oxley Oval.

Gordon Street – sealed & delivered

Small Town Sewerage Scheme

> The $1.65 million upgrade to Gordon St between Lake Rd and Horton St is now complete, improving safety on the busy arterial route used by more than 21,000 vehicles per day.

> Work continues on the Small Town Sewerage Scheme with Comboyne, Long Flat and Telegraph Point commencing this financial year.

A great range of satellite events including fine dining, lunches and dinners, tastings, farm gate experiences and tours will add to the diverse range of experiences and offerings over the Tastings on Hastings weekend.

Countdown to Chr istmas W H E N : T H U R S D AY 3 0 N O V E M B E R 5 . 3 0 P M – 8 . 3 0 P M Don your Santa hat, reindeer antlers and join the fun at this year's Countdown to Christmas community celebration on Thursday 30 November. Festivities kick off with the popular mascot race and street parade along Horton Street ending at Town Green, where the community can enjoy an evening of live music prior to the Mayor and Santa lighting the CBD Christmas Tree at 8.00pm. The Countdown to Christmas will finish with a spectacular fireworks display on the Hastings River.

Our region will welcome around 9,000 touch football players, officials and visitors to our region for the 42nd running of the NSW State Touch Cup.
