ASSIGNMENT 1

PHASE 01: DESCRY 20% THE PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT 1 IS TO FOCUS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PARTICULAR POSITION TOWARDS A CHOSEN INTEREST IN CONTEXT OF THE SITE. ASSIGNMENT 1 IMPLORES THE STUDENT TO SELECT ONE CENTRAL THEME FOR THEIR PROJECTS WHICH ARE: IMAGININGS (UNBUILT, SPECULATIVE), TECTONICS (SEMIOTICS, STRUCTURALISM), COLLAGE (DECONSTRUCTION), POETICS (PHENOMENOLOGY, EXPERIENTIAL) AND LIMINALITY (TRANSITIONS, FLUIDITY, CONSCIOUS/UNCONSCIOUS, THE IN BETWEEN).



REFLECTION 01 IN ASSIGNMENT 1, I LEARNED TO RESEARCH ABOUT SITE CONTEXT AND ALSO MY TOPIC INTEREST WHICH IS ABOUT THE ISRAEL-PALESTINE CONFLICT. THE FIRST ASSIGNMENT TAUGHT ME HOW TO UNDERSTAND A TOPIC BETTER BY READING AND RESEARCHING, GOING THROUGH DOCUMENTATION VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE HAD INSPIRED ME ON HOW TO ARRANGE A DESIGN PROPOSAL THAT COULD HELP THE PEOPLE IN PALESTINE THAT ARE FACING THE REFUGEE CRISIS. THE TOPIC THAT I CHOSE WAS LIMINALITY, WHICH ALSO SPARKED MY INTEREST BECAUSE I WANT TO PROPOSE A PROGRESSION BRIDGE OF HOW THE SPACE CAN BENEFIT THE REFUGEES, SLOWLY PULLING THEM UP FROM MISERY, THAT IS MY CONCEPT OF IN-BETWEEN.


ASSIGNMENT 2

PHASE 2: ENACT 30% THE APPLICATION OF THEORY TOWARDS EXPERIENTIAL JOURNEY IS DEVELOPED THROUGH EXPLORATORY DRAWINGS SEEN THROUGH THE LENS OF CINEMATIC COMPOSITIONS (NOSFERATU, EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP, WES ANDERSON, ETC). IT IS DEVELOPED IN SEVERAL ANGLES AND POSSIBILITIES TO RIGOROUSLY QUESTION ITS IMPACT ON OCCUPANTS THROUGH A PLAYFUL TAKE ON SCALE, INTIMACY, IMMENSITY, ABSURDITY, POLITICS, BEHAVIOR, HABITS, FUTURISM, SPECULATION, DIVERGENCES, PECULIARITIES, AND THIS WILL BE REFLECTED IN THE MANNERISM OF MATERIALITY, SCALE AND DESIGN EXPRESSION PLAYED OUT IN THE DEVELOPMENT.



REFLECTION 02 IN ASSIGNMENT 2, I LEARNED HOW TO PROPOSE SPACES THAT MAY CREATE A POSITIVE IMPACT ONTO THE REFUGEE CHILDREN - WHICH IS ALSO MY TARGET USER. I AIM TO PROPOSE AN EDUCATIONAL SHELTER, A SUSTAINABLE ONE, TO HELP CHILDREN TO RECOVER FROM MENTAL STRESS AND TRAUMA FROM THE REFUGEE CRISIS IN PALESTINE. I LOOKED UP THE POSSIBLE IDEAS THAT COULD MAKE A PLACE BECOME MORE SUSTAINABLE BY GIVING THEM SPACE TO RUN AMOK AT THE SITE. I ALSO GET TO RESEARCH MORE ABOUT CHILDREN AT THIS POINT - TO STUDY ABOUT ACTIVITIES THAT ARE BENEFICIAL TO THEM AT A YOUNG AGE, OR TO PROVIDE THEM A BETTER CHILDHOOD.


ASSIGNMENT 3

PHASE 3: ALCHEMY (4 WEEKS) ASSIGNMENT 3 IS THE FINAL ALCHEMY OF ALL THAT YOU HAVE DEVELOPED FROM PHASE 1 & 2 AND IS THE CULMINATION OF THE PROJECT THAT SEEKS TO CONVERGE SPATIAL PRINCIPLES, EMBODYING THE THEORY THROUGH EXPLORATORY DESIGN DRAWINGS. THE RANGE OF THE PROJECT IS DEPENDENT ON YOU AND COULD HAVE A VAST ASSORTMENT OF POSSIBILITIES IN RELATION TO EXPLORATORY DRAWINGS. THE DRAWINGS SHOULD REFLECT ON THE THEMES YOU HAVE CHOSEN IN PHASE 1. THE DESIGNS CAN RANGE FROM A MULTITUDE OF DESIGN EXPRESSIONS, AND THESE EXPRESSIONS CAN BE INSPIRED FROM BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WHIMSICAL, SOCIAL, ECONOMICAL, SPECULATIVE, POLITICAL AND POETIC. ALL DESIGNED INTENTIONS SHOULD BE INTIMATELY RELATED TO THE CONTEXT OF THE SITE.



REFLECTION 03 IN ASSIGNMENT 3, I LEARNED HOW TO CREATE A SPACE IN-DETAIL TO CATER FOR THEIR PARTICULAR INTEREST AND PREFERENCE. I GET TO STUDY MORE ABOUT THE ERGONOMICS OF CHILDREN TOO. I ALSO LOOKED UP FOR COLOURS, MATERIALS THAT ARE SAFE FOR THE CHILDREN TO INTERACT WITH. IN THIS PROJECT I TRIED TO CREATE A PLAYFUL SPACE FOR THE CHILDREN TO LEARN ON THEIR OWN. I STRUGGLED WITH THE 4X4 SPACE BECAUSE I FELT THAT IT WAS TOO SMALL AND THAT BECAME A CHALLENGE FOR ME. I THINK IT IS A FUN PROJECT TO WORK WITH, BECAUSE WE GET TO LOOK UP NOVEL TECHNOLOGIES THAT COULD HELP IMPROVE THE EXPERIENCE OF OUR SPACE.


OVERALL REFLECTION

IN ASSIGNMENT 1, I LEARNED TO RESEARCH ABOUT SITE CONTEXT AND ALSO MY TOPIC INTEREST WHICH IS ABOUT THE ISRAEL-PALESTINE CONFLICT.
