As the world has slowly opened back up, we have enjoyed seeing our owners being able to return to their yachts and enjoy long-awaited quality time out on the water. We have also welcomed our spring boat shows back into our calendar this year, and in June we exhibited at both the Palma International Boat Show and the British Motor Yacht Show in the UK. Both shows were well attended and it was fantastic to welcome our customers onto our yachts again. 2021 has proven to be particularly busy for us, with an increased demand in the market and more people choosing to spend their downtime on the water, close to home. This season, in order to maintain a premium level of service across our locations, we have opened two new sales offices: one in Ocean Village, Southampton, and the other in Marina Botafoch, Ibiza. It’s great that we now have some exciting events on the horizon to look forward to, notably the Southampton International Boat Show, which is set to return in almost its full entirety this September. You can find out more about the show and our anticipated line-up within this magazine, as well as Cannes Yachting Festival from 7–12 September. Within this edition of My Princess, we wanted to take a look at some of our must-see yacht models, including the Princess F55 and V55, as well as the complete S Class range, ranging from 62–78ft. We’ll also be giving you a teaser of the magnificent Princess Y72 as we prepare for her arrival this year with a Global Premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival. This new release by Princess Yachts is the latest example of the quality design and engineering associated with our range of yachts – she is spacious, innovative, and boasts improved fuel efficiency and performance. We’ll also be taking a guided cruise along the Solent with our Princess sales team, discovering eateries, beautiful destinations and yachts to match. One of the highlights of our magazine is the owner’s story and, in this edition, we jump on board a Princess V52 with the owner, Stewart Wallace, and join him on his maiden voyage from Plymouth to Scotland. You’re guaranteed to feel very inspired! Princess Yachts talk to us about their Princess Experience series and how they have developed their new yacht tours to suit a virtual world – if you haven’t already taken an Oculus VR tour, we highly recommend it; it’s an exceptional experience.

PRINCESS

V55

At the heart of the V Class range of sports yachts lies the Princess V55. Launched in 2019, she delivers on the open boat layout that V Class loyalists crave, whilst exuding elegance and purity of purpose. The Princess V55 is dynamic, athletic and luxurious, and is nothing short of fun on the waves.

Featuring the new deep-V resin-infused hull design, the V55 not only provides a smoother, more efficient ride, but also creates more space below deck. It’s unusual on a 55ft boat to find three spacious guest cabins, including a full-beam and height master stateroom, plus two en-suites. But, on the V55, you have that and more. Princess Yachts has even managed

to include a practical crew cabin aft for one crew member or captain. This space could also prove particularly useful for storage. The dynamic profile of this yacht is instantly recognisable as a Princess Yacht anywhere in the world. Panoramic, knife-shaped hull windows flood the lower deck in natural light and accentuating her clear sweeping lines. As you step on board, the thought process behind the V55 is clear – the open cockpit blends seamlessly with her interior, connected by a cleverly concealed drop-down sliding patio door, ensuring every inch of space is utilised and expanded upon. The Princess V55 has been designed with owners in mind, providing all-important space to socialise, relax and entertain. But, above all, she is for those who want to explore the water and truly experience what a sports yacht has to offer.

PRINCESS

F55

There are many ways to describe the Princess F55, but above all else, she is simply luxurious.

The distinctive design ethos of the Princess F Class is obvious everywhere you look onboard this yacht, from her large flybridge and foredeck sunbathing area to her full-beam master stateroom. As with all Princess yachts, there is a high degree of exquisite detailing and masterful engineering onboard the F55. Each area of the yacht has been designed with socialising in mind, with wetbars, U-shaped seating and spacious dining areas in abundance. As for her interior, the Princess Design Studio has delivered yet again – elegantly shaped surfaces, beautifully soft materials and layered geometric lines combine perfectly. The definition of the F55 is edgy, with an emphasis on clean, uncomplicated comfort. Below deck, expansive hull windows create a sense of constant forward motion whilst generously flooding the accommodation with natural light. Three spacious guest cabins provide the perfect space to relax in private, including a master stateroom stretching the full width of the yacht. A renowned trait of Princess Yachts is imagination and

intelligence when it comes to yacht design and proving that, even on a 55ft yacht, you can still enjoy maximum space, height and premium comfort.

An evolution in customer engagement While restrictions have bolstered the public’s appetite for boats, the impossibility of face-to-face interaction has seen the emergence of new, more flexible forms of communication. 2020 saw the launch of the Princess Experience series: an online presentation featuring new models, behind-the-scenes factory access, and interviews with renowned names (not just in the marine sector). As well as this, Princess Yachts has seen a rise in demand for digital content and has responded with impressive 3D tours, YouTube videos and their latest set of CGI walk-throughs via a virtual reality headset. We spoke to Chloe Harris, Regional Marketing Manager at Princess Yachts, to find out how Princess has dealt with the challenge.

CESS yachts CESS yachts CESS yachts CESS yachts 18

Chloe Harris

How has your interaction with clients changed? Clients would normally come and see us at the factory. They would speak to our sales team and visit their boats in build. But when travel was prohibited, we turned to live video tours instead. The sales team would take clients through a boat, opening doors, looking into cupboards, lifting up hatches. It was a much more interactive experience than static images and it was also a great way for customers to meet the team and develop that rapport.

Is that what the Princess Experience Series is all about?

excep

tional

Yes, exactly. With in-depth tours of all of our craft, our Experience Series is a way to bring what we do into the client’s living room. Kiran, our Chief Marketing Officer, is the host and has conducted interviews with our CEO and different members of our design and development teams. So it was certainly a useful way to show the world our latest yachts, but it was also a great way to communicate the human face of Princess.

What other innovations have there been? We started a campaign called ‘Exceptional People’, where we showed Princess team members doing what they love outside of work, for instance, hiking, paddle boarding and even clockmaking. We also made factory tour videos and we’re developing some really in-depth digital brochures too. In terms of the boats themselves, we’ve been filming our life-size mock-ups of new ‘in-build’ models, so customers can get a real sense of the space onboard. And that same idea has been central to our VR headsets. We’ve created CGI walkthroughs of some of our larger craft so you can wear a headset and ‘step on board’ before the actual boat has even been built.

PRINCESS yach PRINCESS yach PRINCESS yach PRINCESS yach PRINCESS yach What has changed in your role specifically? My role is to assist with and manage the marketing for our distributors in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Usually, I would have meetings with them at boat shows; however, this has not been possible in the current climate. Instead, we have stepped up our online communication, which means that meetings are much more accessible for myself and them. We have also developed our internal CRM system to allow distributors to host online marketing plans rather than the traditional method of handing in a physical document. This has been a really interesting tool, which has allowed me to work with the distributors in a more collaborative way.

So what are the lasting lessons since the start of the pandemic? The biggest lesson learned is that we can’t just go back to the old ways. A customised hybrid approach with the right balance of face-to-face interaction and digital flexibility is critical. After all, when you’re buying a yacht, you need to be 100 percent sure and, Covid or no Covid, that’s just how we want our customers to feel.

L O C AT I O N SPOTLIGHT

On England’s south coast, between the mainland and the Isle of Wight, the Solent is one of the world’s most famous yachting playgrounds. Running from Hurst Castle in the west to the Palmerston Forts in the east, it combines bustling nautical cities like Southampton and historic nautical towns like Cowes with quaint estuaries, multifaceted rivers and a range of delightful villages, bays, beaches and anchorages.

Indulge in world-class yachting events

As a region with an extraordinary sailing heritage, a variety of historic nautical destinations and a range of sailing conditions, from soft and sheltered to exposed and open, the Solent’s annual calendar of races and regattas is unlike anywhere else in the world – and one of its undisputed highlights is Cowes Week. If you prefer a show to a regatta, the Southampton International Boat Show is a traditional outdoor event with the largest on-water display of boats in Europe. Its infectious festival buzz has seen it become the UK’s favourite boat show and a traditional end-of-season celebration of all that is good about the marine industry. The British Motor Yacht Show is another highly-anticipated event. Held in June at Premier’s Swanwick Marina, one of the most picturesque marinas on the River Hamble, this unique invitation-only event is designed to showcase the best of British motor yachts, whilst also enabling premium builders to exhibit their finest new boats to serious buyers.

20

Yachting in the Solent

Where to go cruising

The Solent provides such a generous mix of lively sailing towns and idyllic natural retreats that it can be hard to narrow down a favourite cruising itinerary. But with its position at the northern tip of the Isle of Wight, right at the heart of the Solent, the iconic yachting hub of Cowes is the saltiest of salty destinations and a very natural base for exploring the local highlights. Further west, Lymington is another intensely nautical town with scores of pubs, cafes, fish restaurants and chandleries. If you enjoy the idea of joining the throng, the Hamble River is an elegant, usefully sheltered waterway with seven marinas, a range of lovely towns, villages, pubs, and countless sailing clubs. If you prefer a quieter, more intimate escape, Beaulieu River, which cuts up into the New Forest National Park on the mainland’s south coast, combines its natural loveliness with a fascinating shipbuilding heritage. Newtown Creek is also a lovely place to stop. As a secluded estuary owned by the National Trust on the northwest coast of the Isle of Wight, it’s a great place to enjoy a tranquil anchorage among the abundant wildlife of the historic salt marshes. Back out towards the Needles, Alum Bay and Freshwater Bay also offer lovely opportunities for a scenic anchorage. And if you want to step ashore for a bite, the Hut at Colwell Bay is a renowned beach restaurant that will happily ferry you ashore from your anchorage.

Princess Motor Yacht Sales in the Solent Princess Motor Yacht Sales enjoys a deep-rooted presence among the Solent’s vibrant south coast boating scene. In addition to a well-established sales office at Swanwick Marina on the Hamble and a full-scale service centre at Saxon Wharf on the River Itchen, Princess Motor Yacht Sales also has a new office in Ocean Village Marina in the heart of Southampton, with easy access to Southampton Water.

Staff interview We talk to Bruce Hastie, Finance and Insurance Manager, based at Ocean Village Marina, to find out more about yachting on the South Coast and the yachting market today.

Tell us more about your boating background and what your role is today.

I started working in boat sales part-time in 1995 whilst I was at Southampton Institute. When I had finished my course, I decided that I would become a yacht broker and have worked in and around the Hamble River for the last 25 years. I have been with Princess Motor Yacht Sales for nearly six years; firstly as a New Boat Sales Executive and, in the last 12 months, undertaking a new role managing our Marine Finance and Insurance products. Financing a yacht purchase is becoming increasingly popular in today’s market, allowing customers to purchase their yacht with more flexibility.

Where is Princess Motor Yacht Sales located?

Swanwick Marina has been the home of Princess Motor Yacht Sales from the very beginning, however with the expansion of both the sales and service departments, additional space was required. Two years ago, we opened our new service facility in Saxon Wharf, Southampton and more recently a new sales office in Ocean Village. Ocean Village has seen significant investment in the last five years with extensive residential development and recently the five-star Harbour Hotel, all of which combined with the renewal of the pontoons in the marina makes Ocean Village a very popular destination for boat buyers and owners. A new sales office is also currently under construction at Swanwick Marina – this is due to open early next year.

Where would you recommend cruising to locally?

The Solent is popular largely due to its easy access from London and surrounding counties. It is also a great place to learn how to use a boat, with protected waters and great destinations. The Hamble River is simply the home of yachting on the south coast. Here we have a number of marinas, with popular destinations, including Lymington, and Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. Both offer lovely surroundings and busy towns with good restaurants. Our customers love The Hut in Colwell Bay, IoW; this is probably the most popular restaurant among local boat owners in the Solent. If you get the weather right, it can be better than the South of France!

Can you tell us about the current yachting market and the effect this has had on the South Coast? Since the end of the first lockdown in May 2020, the marine market has been extremely strong. Boating in all forms has been an activity that has been possible throughout the pandemic whilst still adhering to government guidelines. Those who would have regularly travelled abroad are now seeking UK-based boating, and we are seeing a number of new owners join the Princess family too. As a result, several marinas on the south coast are now operating at full capacity.

FROM

P LY M O U T H T O INVERKIP words by Alex Smith

Join Stewart Wallace on board his newly purchased 2015 Princess V52, as he has his yacht prepared in Plymouth before a trip north to its new home in Inverkip, Scotland. We spoke to Stewart to find out more about his journey and what led him to this V52.

Turnchap el Wharf

So Stewart, why did you buy a Princess V52?

Well, in 2020, I bought a new 40-foot sports boat in Swanwick, which we sailed back to the Clyde. But we quickly discovered that it was a bit small for us. When you go to a marina in a non-fly 40-footer, you tend to have to get off and take a walk, especially if you’re with friends. But after Covid, we realised that we wanted our boat to be a destination in its own right – and with three separate socialising zones (the cockpit, the saloon and the lower galley and dinette), our V52 provides exactly that.

MULL OF GALLOWAY

WHITEHAVEN

Having bought your V52 pre-owned, did you make many changes?

The owner of the boat hadn’t really been on board for 18 months. He was in London, the boat was in Falmouth and then Covid came along, so despite being six years old, it had only done 145 hours. It’s not good for a boat to sit there unused, so when the Princess sales team said they would move the boat down to their Turnchapel facility in Plymouth for maintenance and upgrades, I was very happy with that. It would have been impossible for me to project manage the work from Scotland and I needed to make it ready for its trip north to my home in Inverkip.

LIVERPOOL MENAI STRAITS

What kind of work did you have done?

This was my first pre-owned yacht and I wanted to get that special ‘new boat’ experience without necessarily paying ‘showroom’ money. So we had the canvasses remade and all the floors sanded and restained. We had the name changed to ‘Endless Days’ and we added USB sockets and electrical points around the boat. We also upgraded the helm with a new 16-inch chartplotter, as well as AIS, a reversing camera, an anemometer and a Wi-Fi system.

CARDIGAN BAY

Has that made it feel like a custom boat? Absolutely. Having been boating for the last 15 years, I know what works for me and what doesn’t, so things were tweaked to fit my requirements. In the end, there were 65 items. It was a huge schedule of work but I wanted to get the boat in the best condition possible because her first journey was going to involve a lot of exposed waters.

The Fab Fo ur

rfront e t a W ool Liverp So how was the trip from Plymouth to Inverkip?

Well, I have known people who appoint a professional skipper and two days later the boat arrives in Scotland, but I didn’t want to do that. I wanted to enjoy the journey because it’s not every day you get to go round Land’s End or cruise the Pembrokeshire coast. I took two of my friends with me and they’re also retired, so it wasn’t a race. The plan right from the start was to take our time.

Which route did you take?

On the first leg, we stopped off at Fowey in Cornwall. It’s a beautiful little town and we had a lovely time there. From Fowey, we went round Land’s End and across the Bristol Channel into Milford Haven, before heading round the Pembrokeshire coast and straight across Cardigan Bay to Pwllheli in North Wales. There’s a firing range in Cardigan Bay, so you have to phone up and get permission to make the transit because you don’t want to be a live target!

e Mersey Ferry across Th

Did you head straight from Liverpool to Inverkip?

From Liverpool, we dodged the wind farms across Morecambe Bay to Whitehaven in Cumbria, where we spent another two days. Then we came back round the Mull of Galloway and up to Inverkip Marina on the Clyde. It was an eight-day journey in all.

What was your best moment?

I really wanted to visit places we hadn’t been before so a Menai Straits passage was a must for me. You have to get the tides and the weather right, and the navigation is quite tricky because the buoy system changes halfway up – but we made good time from Caernarfon to an area between the two bridges called the Swellies. It’s got a notorious reputation but we hit it at the right time. It was just before high tide and there’s a lot of power on the boat so the turbulent water wasn’t a problem. And as we passed Bangor Pier at the top end of the straits, I felt a really profound sense of satisfaction.

Where did you head after North Wales?

We wanted to spend three days in Liverpool but there’s only about two hours either side of high tide to get into the sea lock. We were given a time to be outside the lock and it was a bit tight, so I ended up cruising up the Mersey at 30 knots, past all the famous landmarks – the Titanic Building, the Liver Building, and Albert Dock. I was expecting the harbourmaster to scream down the VHF at me, but he never did. And what a fantastic city Liverpool is. We did all the tourist stuff. We did the Beatles Open Top Bus Tour; we went to the maritime museum; and we ate at Albert Dock. I’d recommend it to anybody, but you need to get your navigation and timings right or it can get a bit tense!

How did your V52 perform?

It really looks after you. It’s a very stable and solid boat. It doesn’t creak or rattle and it gives you a tremendous sense of confidence. As a shaft-driven boat, it also feels planted in the water and the space is really fantastic. One of my friends stayed in the forward cabin and the other in the lower dinette conversion, and that worked a treat because it meant we could use the crew cabin for storage. I’m really pleased with the upgrades too and, despite the fact that it’s 55 feet long, it’s the easiest boat I’ve ever handled. With the thrusters and the ‘hold’ function, I find it very comfortable manoeuvring at close quarters – and my wife loves it for that same reason. By her own admission, she’s an ‘incompetent sailor’ but the fact that I can do everything myself means there’s no stress for her at all.

In three weeks’ time, I’m heading up to Oban for a month on the west coast of Scotland in and around the islands of Mull and Skye. And then we have two ideas for 2022. One is to go to St Kilda, 60 miles out in the North Atlantic, to visit the sea stacks. The other is to go right up to the top of Scotland, around Cape Wrath and across to Orkney, before coming back down the east coast and then west through the Caledonian Canal. We’ll take about a month to do that, so if the weather’s bad, it won’t be a problem. We can just stay in port because the boat is so comfortable, it feels like a floating apartment!

Dealer spotlight

LAKE ZURICH

Nestled between the Albis and Zimmerberg hills lies the bent, almost banana-shaped, Lake Zurich. Here, Hensa Lago Marina is the Princess dealer for Lake Zurich and the surrounding area. At its boatyard in Altendorf, there is space for up to 360 boat moorings, as well as more available in Schmerikon or Rapperswil.

Björn Hensler, CEO at Hensa Lago Marina, told us: “Hensa Lago Marina is perfectly located on the upper lake of Zurich. Only a short boat trip away, you can reach the untouched Upper Lake region and discover the islands here. The demand in this area of Switzerland to provide five-star moorings alongside an incredible service is high, so we have continued to expand our facility over the last 60 years to keep up. We offer a great infrastructure here for customer’s ease of use, and each mooring comes allocated with a parking space. Altendorf train station is only 100 m away, which makes travelling to our marina from Zurich very easy.” With over 60 years of experience, Hensa Lago Marina has a simple mantra: Your yacht, your mooring, your experience. And, the experience of each of their customers in Lake Zurich is at the heart of what they do here. Providing a five-star service, whether prior to purchase or during ownership, is paramount. From boat purchase, rental and chartering, to summer and winter moorings, servicing and aftercare – the Hensa Lago Marina team is on hand to support its owners.

26

“We provide a ready-to-go service for our owners. It’s completely flexible and means they have more time to relax and enjoy their boat and the lake. Whether it’s simply removing the covers for their arrival, checking the motor or carrying out a full service,” Björn explains. “During the summer months, we provide a protected and secure marina for owners to berth and begin their journeys. And in the winter, Altendorf’s purpose-built mooring hall comes into its own. Built in 1990, the four-storey warehouse can accommodate up to 220 boats. Securely stored indoors, our owners’ boats are protected from the elements, plus any routine service works and maintenance can be carried out by our team of engineers on-site.”

From the impressive high peaks of Switzerland to its numerous idyllic lakes, it is clear to see why this location is favoured by travellers. And especially on Lake Zurich, with its neighbouring islands, remote lakesides and popular amenities, a boat owner can find themselves spoilt for choice.

Hensa Lago Marina is a family-run company dating back to 1957 and handed down through three generations. Today, Oliver and Björn Hensler continue to serve boat owners in the area, whether they are new to ownership or a frequent visitor of the lake.

Lake Zurich

P U R E R E L A X AT I O N Picture sedately cruising a shimmering glassy blue expanse. Like an unfolding theatrical set, the jagged snow-capped Alps give way to gently sloping vineyards and orchards. The sheer beauty of 24-mile-long crescent-shaped Lake Zurich will take your breath away. Combine that with Zurich’s sophisticated cultural buzz and the charms of rural town life, and you have the perfect yachting destination.

ZURICH

Lying on the top shores of Lake Zurich and nestling in a picturesque mountain-side valley, Zurich is cocooned in nature. The Limmat River snakes its way through its heart, and the Uetliberg Mountain rises 2,850 feet above sea level in its centre, attracting hikers and mountain bikers, while in the winter, it’s popular with sledders. Zurich is an ideal spot for those who wish to immerse themselves in the Swiss culture. Its vast historic Sechseläutenplatz square with a famous fairground and the nearby internationally-renowned 1,100-seat Zurich Opera House, which annually stages 250 performances (including 13 opera premieres), are a great starting point. For your art fix, head to Kunsthaus Zürich and marvel at modernist masterpieces from Picasso to Munch. Aside from its heritage, Zurich pulsates with youthful energy, such as in the trendy Zürich-West quarter (full of unusual boutiques, restaurants and bars). The Lake offers scenic mooring at Hensa Lago Marina (Altendorf, Lake Zurich) where our Princess dealers are located, Thalwil (Western shore) and on the Eastern shore, Stäfa. Another recommended stop is Rapperswil, where you can take a relaxing amble along the town’s pretty medieval alleys to its hilltop castle. Dubbed ‘the town of the roses’, the scent of 16,000 roses fills the air of the monastery and Schanz rose gardens. For total tranquility, cruise to the Island of Ufenau to roam its nature reserve, medieval churches and

ancient Einsiedeln Abbey (dating from the year 965). For a different taste of Switzerland, experience something sweet at the new interactive Lindt Chocolate Museum. Next to the Kilchberg factory site (built in 1899), it boasts a 9m high chocolate-dripping fountain and 500m2 shop to simply lose yourself in! Staying on the subject of food, Lake Zurich is lined with many fine dining restaurants. To enjoy delectable cuisine and drink in amazing lakeside views, we suggest:

Belvoir Restaurant & Grill

Be tempted by chargrilled succulent meat and fish dishes at this 15 Gault Millau points-awarded restaurant.

Gasthof Hirschen am See

Renowned for spectacular views and mouth-watering freshly prepared seasonal and Mediterranean delicacies.

Frohberg Stäfa

Tasty traditional Swiss food, local fish dishes, wines and traditional folk music – it’s the real deal.

YachtQuarters

E X PE R I E NC E

A L L T H E YA C H T YO U WA N T ALL THE TIME YO U N E E D

Princess 68, final shares remaining

If you’ve ever thought about owning a luxury yacht but are concerned you may not be able to spend as much time on board, then look no further. Our YachtQuarters shared ownership programme has been designed to meet owners in the middle – a flexible system in which eight owners come together to own a share of the yacht and her schedule. Of course, there is a great deal of management involved both prior to purchase and during ownership, and the latter is where our YachtQuarters Manager, Juliano Meirelles, comes in.

38

Juliano is the eyes and ears on the ground in Mallorca, preparing the yacht for her owner’s arrival and ensuring everything is in place for each owner to enjoy a stress-free vacation. We spoke to Juliano to understand the YachtQuarters ownership experience; what to expect when you arrive at your yacht in Mallorca, and how the annual schedule is managed successfully between a set of owners.

What can an owner expect when they arrive at their yacht in Mallorca, ready to cruise away?

Firstly, can you tell us a bit about your role within the YachtQuarters team and your responsibilities?

I am the YachtQuarters Programme Manager, so everything associated with the yacht and owners after purchase comes under my remit. My primary responsibility is to ensure that each owner can spend quality time on board their yacht with their friends and family, completely stress-free. In the winter months, we get the yacht ready – preparing the annual budgets, ensuring the owners have booked their weeks on board and servicing the yacht ready for her first outing. Once the yacht is on the water, I ensure she is in perfect working order and everything is running smoothly with the help of our onboard crew and Princess team here in Mallorca. We send each of our owners a preference form prior to the boating season. Here, they can tell us which weeks they would like to come on board (a set of weeks is available during peak and mid-season), any desires and needs whilst they are on board, and their preferred itinerary. Understanding this information from our owners at the beginning means we can arrange for the yacht to be cleaned, prepared and serviced for each trip, without fail.

Currently, there is a Princess 64 yacht in Mallorca running with a set of owners. Can you tell us how that is performing?

The Princess 64 shared ownership programme kicked off in 2020. As you can imagine, this year, the schedule was affected by the pandemic; however, we made sure our owners each had opportunities to come and enjoy their yacht. The owners themselves are from a mixture of backgrounds – although mainly from the UK – and they have been busy sailing around the Balearics since the programme began; we have received fabulous reviews regarding the experience so far.

In a nutshell, the owner can do just that. They travel with their friends and family to Mallorca, and we take care of the rest. We will turn around the yacht prior to their arrival, ensuring she is clean, fully stocked with essentials, food and drink, plus any personal belongings or requests are onboard for the owner. I know each of the owners well, so I am usually on board waiting for the owner and their guests to arrive. From the moment they do, their itinerary for the week is completely up to them – some stay locally, anchoring in nearby bays and making the most of the coastline in Mallorca. Others like to do day trips to neighbouring islands or explore further afield. As we live in Mallorca, we know this island and the Balearics incredibly well; we can advise on the best places to go, and we can pre-book restaurants and more prior to their arrival.

In your experience, why is shared ownership a good alternative to owning outright?

For me, the YachtQuarters shared ownership programme is an easy solution to owning a yacht and ensures that you really make the most of your time on board. A lot of owners, especially here in the Mediterranean, really have little time over the year to spend on their yachts. So, this ownership programme allows owners to still own a share of a luxury yacht, for a fraction of the cost of purchasing outright. At the end of the four-year programme, the yacht is sold and this is shared amongst the owners – so you get a bit back too!

Finally, tell us more about you. What do you like to do in your spare time and what brought you to Mallorca?

What is there not to love here in Mallorca? The sun shines for most of the year, we have fantastic beaches and the seas are warm! In my spare time, I’m most likely to be out on the water. I enjoy water sports, mainly paddle boarding and surfing. Otherwise, I like to look after myself and stay fit with trips to the gym and playing football with friends – I’m a lover of the outdoors, so seek freedom and adventure where possible.

For more information regarding our shared ownership programme and the current Princess 68 for sale, contact our YachtQuarters Sales Manager, Joshua Cleaver, on +44 (0)1489 557755 or email info@yachtquarters.com

PRINCESS CHARTER The Balearics

The Balearic Islands are an ideal escape for holidaymakers or charter guests. In addition to a glorious climate, which drenches the archipelago’s pine-clad hills in year-round sun, the Balearics offer some wonderful food, plenty of historical texture and a sliding scale of culture and indulgence.

Mallorca

Four Mallorcan towns particularly worth seeking out include Deia, Pollença, Porto Cristo and Colonia Sant Jordi. Deia, up in the northwest of the island, is a pretty, winding town built into steep hills in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range with lovely views out to sea. If you head to the northernmost part of the same mountain range, the town of Pollença is a very suave place set amongst stunning countryside with a café-lined square, a Sunday street market, and a lively events calendar. The south of the island is defined by more earthy fishing villages and Porto Cristo, a quiet Mallorcan village with a natural harbour, is one of the best. Though it’s quite remote, it has all the facilities you need for an extended stay, as well as easy access to the impressive Cuevas del Drach underground caves. And if you want a traditional coastal village largely untouched by tour operators, Colonia Sant Jordi in the far southeast has a laid-back marina, with a scattering of eateries and easy access to the nature reserve at nearby Cabrera island.

40

Ibiza

Look towards the centre of the island, where Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera continues to enthral. As with most towns in this part of the world, the heart of the place revolves around the central square, where a long lazy lunch has become something of an art form. There is also a very active culture of markets in Ibiza, most of them with a charming hippy vibe that endures from the 60s. So, while you’re exploring the island’s interior, take the time out to visit another exponent of that ethos in the form of the Paloma Restaurant in San Lorenzo. If beaches are your thing, Ibiza is outstanding. While Cala Saldada and Es Portixol are both superb, the difficulty of reaching Cala Llentrisca by foot makes it one of the very best beaches for those on a yacht charter. It’s a compact beach in a crescent-shaped inlet with a ramshackle arrangement of fishing boat sheds and a small timber jetty that provides the ideal base for diving.

Charter ‘Free Soul’ in the Balearic Islands From €30,000 per week Princess Charter presents ‘Free Soul’, a charming Princess 68 luxury yacht available to charter in the Balearic Islands.

Menorca

While Mahon is the capital of Menorca, its modest scale, unhurried pace and intimate atmosphere make it feel very much like an exclusive escape. It clings to a ridge above a saltwater inlet at the apex of a vast natural port and impresses with the elegance of its Georgian-style architecture and the happy inclusivity of its alfresco food scene. The Nuestra Señora de Gràcia Festival in September is a riotous time to visit. That said, as the island’s original capital, the west coast town of Ciutadella is equally appealing. It marries an active fishing fleet with a slick yacht charter scene, blending a working port with brightly coloured waterfront restaurants. If you’re keen to get more active, Binibeca Vell is a 70’s village conjured into existence by Spanish architect Antonio Sintes Mercadal, just five miles or so from Mahon. In his attempts to replicate the character of a traditional Menorcan fishing village, he arranged a maze of low-slung whitewashed houses around a compact harbour. As a quirky spot for some family watersports, it takes some beating.

Formentera

Perched out on a limb, seven miles south of Ibiza, Formentera is a rocky little island that can only be accessed by sea. In relation to the rest of the Balearics, that tends to mean that any destination here feels just a touch exclusive. If you want to make the most of the island’s elemental simplicity, that’s easily done simply by circling the coastline in pursuit of a deserted cove or heading inland on a hike.

After an extensive refit just this year, Free Soul is ready to welcome charter guests this season. Spend your autumn and winter months on board and enjoy everything that comes with a luxury yacht charter and more. She offers plenty of versatile spaces to relax, wine and dine, sunbathe and socialise – the yacht features an aft galley arrangement, typical of Princess Yachts design, to allow guests to entertain with ease. On her forward deck and flybridge, there is ample space for sunbathing and relaxing, or take a dip in the sea from her large transom. Below deck, there are four cabins able to accommodate up to eight guests in supreme comfort. Both the en suites and cabins aboard this Princess 68 are spacious and contemporary, each providing that quiet space for guests to tuck themselves away. As with all charter yachts, Free Soul offers no exception when it comes to her array of water toys – the range includes a Williams 90hp jet tender for those ship-to-shore journeys, Yamaha sea scooters, towables, water skis, paddleboards, wakeboard, snorkelling gear and more. Your luxury charter in the Balearic Islands can be completely tailored towards you and your guests. ADVERTORIAL

Bentley Bristol offers a destination where you can experience the full range of Bentley models, view a wide range of finishes and options in their bespoke commissioning lounge, and browse the Bentley lifestyle collection in the Bentley Bristol boutique. Bentley Bristol first opened its doors in July 2016 to serve customers based in the Cotswolds and South West. The experienced team has built up long-term relationships with customers and is delighted to have customers back in the showroom once more. The team offers one-to-one consultation in the spacious showroom where customers can browse the wide array of specifications, view materials and experience the brand environment, as well as test drive the Bentley model range. However, for those with busy lifestyles, virtual consultations with vehicle walkaround videos are also available.

Commissioning with Bentley Bristol and Mulliner

Buying a Bentley is a very personal experience and the team at Bentley Bristol can introduce Bentley Mulliner – an extensive list of options for both interior and exterior means that customers are able to specify a configuration that is truly individual and suited to their personality, going even further than the billions of ways a Bentley can be commissioned using the standard options. The Personal Commissioning Guide offers a unique mix of traditional and contemporary options that will appeal to Bentley’s diverse and extraordinary clients. Depending on the individual’s personal preference, each car can take on a new aesthetic while ensuring style and performance are never compromised. Our team at Bentley Bristol is available to guide you through the commissioning process and personalise your Bentley. Using the Mulliner Visualiser in conjunction with our Bentley Bristol team, customers are able to design their

personal options virtually. Each retailer is experienced in choosing specifications for each model and are able to advise which options will be complementary and complete the look of the car.

Sustainable luxury

The Bentley Mulliner team has worked with a traditional textile mill to produce a bespoke, natural wool cloth akin to that in a fine tailored suit. By embracing time-honoured methods, the collaboration has resulted in four striking woven cloth patterns, each featuring exclusive yarn colours. The mill goes to great efforts to ensure the materials used are produced in the most ethical and environmental way. This is in line with Bentley’s Beyond100 strategy that details the plans for the company to become a global leader in sustainable luxury mobility.

From traditional to contemporary

Bentley Mulliner offers a wide range of veneer options that will transform the interior of each new model. From more traditional wood cross-banding, to painted veneers and contemporary stone fascias, there is a unique interior feature for every customer.

Using painted veneers, Bentley Mulliner can now match all of the interiorveneered areas to any of the colours from the standard, extended and Bentley Mulliner exterior paint ranges, or the interior hide colours. With 103 options for painted veneers, customers will have an extensive list of colours available to create a bespoke interior that is reflective of their personality.
