It creates and puts into action research programs, hosts researchers and students from the international community, organizes seminars, forum, and conference cycles. In cooperation with other regional centers, it participates in programs (research) focused on all aspects of the Arab and Muslim world. It has considerable documentary resources, as well as editing and publishing facilities in order to disseminate its findings. Its activities are always conducted in close cooperation with Egyptian and Sudanese scientific and universities. The department of cities and sustainability at CEDEJ focuses on urban studies and hosts social science researches on urban Egypt and the Arab world. For instance, two programs have been launched from September 2008: (i) Waste Management in Egypt, (ii) Sustainable cities, policies, strategies and urban projects in Egypt and the Arab world.
